Is it better to hold him until because Gase acknowledged that he is on pace to start week 1?
What exactly would he do in camp if that's the case?

I'm expecting him to just get classroom and walkthroughs, maybe some shorts and helmet days of practice.

I think this is a bad idea. Sure, Pouncey when he's healthy is arguably the best center in the league. But even he needs practice especially as he missed so very much of last year. Without practice I think he's MORE likely to get injured. If he's that close to being injured at any time, why play him at all? It just seems like a bad philosophy. He;s either healthy and practices and plays or he's unhealthy and does neither. I'm not saying he needs to take EVERY training camp snap but he needs some work or he's going to get Tannehill AND himself killed out there.

yeah but maybe the thinking is the less wear and tear during camp, the better the shot to start week 1. I mean let's not be naive, he will have to do some form of physical activity to play in the first game.

Yeah I get the thinking. Just don't agree with it. If he's that fragile, he needs to get better or perhaps retire though I'd hate to see that.

I think that the team should be careful with him, of course. Maybe give him a lot of days off, and absolutely pull him out if he doesn't feel right. But the idea of keeping him out of camp entirely if he's physically able seems over the top to me. He needs to practice, and he and RT need time together, plus the OL needs to practice together also.

I think he practices like everyone else. Stop treating him like a China doll. Would rather he break in camp when we can pick SOMEONE up rather then in the 2nd game.

Nah, they're very honest about how much they suck.

One more year, Pouncey. Just give us a good season, and everyone can seperate and move on, so we aren't doing this dance every summer.

This is why I say sign Nick Mangold. Everyone always endorses bringing in another quarterback to give your quarterback a kick in the ***. Why not the same with the center?

    Besides, if Pouncy goes down...

I see nothing wrong with treating him like a China doll, honestly. I think it would be wise for more teams to be proactive about the health of key players. I remember how the Chargers use to keep LaDainlian Tomlinson on the sidelines in the preseason. I always remember think that was so smart. For one, it mitigates the chances of him getting hurt therefore adding years to his playing years. As training camps and preseason football are underway, it becomes an inevitability that a key player gets hurt, and we hear the storyline, "Why was player X even on the field?" Then you can cue the NFL media pundits to once again argue to the wisdom of shortening the preseason.

Teams should shorten the preseason on their own. Here is a list of players that should absolutely not play 4 preseason games:

Pouncey, Suh, Ajayi, Landry, Tunsil, Kiko, Timmons, Wake, possibly Tannehill (depending of the status of his knee)

    I
I remember last year Jeff fisher strutting around camp talkin about how he's gonna protect and baby his prize running back, actling all boss by saying no one is gonna hit him in camp...look where that got him and gurley, they both sucked, one got axed.

Don't baby your players unless you need to..practice them hard, but don't use them in useless preseason games..but treating them like fisher did was a huge mistake and an obvious one.

No, I think most people would agree that some preseason is necessary, and I think that you would have look at each of those players on a case-by-case basis. I think it would be advisable to play the whole offensive line unit together for maybe a quarter in the dress rehearsal.

As much as we talk about Jordan Phillips on this board, I have silently worried to myself about what would happen if Suh blew out an ACL. I really think that Suh and Wake should have a few series and that is it for the preseason. Let our two late round picks get reps and try and improve on the interior and extended reps for Harris may actually be wise in order to build him into more than just a pass rushing specialist.

I would like to see our LB corps spend a quarter together, and if there are problems, maybe a little more time together.

I really don't think Ajayi needs to spend a lot of time on the field at all because I think there may be more than a handful of games in which he will get heavy workloads.

Generally speaking, I think that most people are right when they say the preseason needs to be 2 games. I would treat game 1 as a glorified practice. Aforementioned players would sit. Game 2, I would give a series to two certain players. Game 3 would still be the dress rehearsal. Guys would play a quarter to a half based on well things go. 4th game, I would sit everyone who has a roster spot locked.

Bahahaha! Is this a real post? I mean fo-real! Jared Goff and Case Keenum were gonna take them to the Super Bowl if only Jeff Fisher had played Gurley in the preseason. This might be the greatest revisionist history that I have ever read. Not only did the 1st pick in the NFL draft throw more INTS than TDS, he was not the only QB on his team to throw more INTS than TDS.

I am so sorry, but this was just a historically bad post. I am literally laughing out loud.

A lot of folks don't realize it but center is one of the most critical pieces on the field at any given time. When your team has the best in the business, you treat it like an asset and give the guy every possible chance to succeed. If the medical staff says he would benefit from the extra rest then there's nothing to talk about- you put him on an exercise bike on the sidelines during live drills.

Your not interpreting my pov correctly, I have no problem sitting running backs in the preseason, I agree with it..there are deeper points I'm trying to make in my last post..
