Was a bit tipsy one night and changed my password and cant log in anymore. My warranty is out..this sucks.

Does anyone know how to maybe bypass it or log in some other way and reset the password?

    A) try booting it with a linux live CD

    B) google Dell Inspiron Hot Keys to see if you can access the system Bios

    C) spend a hardcore day reading Dell boards for a backdoor past the pword requirement, those shortcuts exist, but they are not really "googleable".

is this a password that happens before you boot? if so, i'd take out the battery in your motherboard for about 30 seconds and then put it back in. this will reset all your bios data.

I had the same issue after upgrading to Windows 10. The above method didn't work. Anyone know how to fix it? Dell XPS

Unless there's something on it you REALLY need to salvage, I'd chalk it up as a loss. Nobody should be using an 8 year old laptop. I would only wish that upon Jets fans.

Jokes aside, if there's stuff on there you need... I'd get a portable drive and download a bootable version of Ubuntu or something. From there you can get into the drive and get your pics or music or whatever is so important. After that, I'd wipe the drive and do a clean windows install. If you truly cannot remember your login you might be SOL.

Here are a couple of links regarding Windows 10:

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2988...get-your-windows-admin-password-try-this.html

    http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04648973

It seems with Windows 10, where Microsoft has force fed the online account bit, you may be able to reset it from there accordingly. Finally useful for something I guess.

Also, assuming you have access to the internet via a method other than your laptop, simply google your issue. That should resolve it. I know I used some method years ago on Windows Vista where I went into Windows Recovery (I believe) to find the Admin password on a computer I was repairing for a friend.

Best of luck and if you need any further assistance feel free to post or PM me if you wish. I don't claim to be an expert but will help if I can.

The Portupepe fellow posted last week with the same issue in post 10. I was responding to him.

Yet again maybe he's a dupe with his post number.

    1. If you type the wrong password when you attempt to log on, Windows displays a message that the password is incorrect. Click OK to close the message.
    2. Click Reset password, and then insert your password reset disk or USB flash drive.
    3. Follow the steps in the Password Reset wizard to create a new password.
    4. Log on with the new password. If you forget your password again, you can use the same password reset disk. You don't need to make a new one.
