I have been wanting Jay Cutler in miami for a while now. I remember coming out of college I thought his skillset remined me a bit of marino with his rocket arm and pocket presence. Although cutler doesnt have the competitive fire, leadership ability or decision making under pressure that marino had. That said this offense and gase are perfect for cutler and his skillset. He throws a great deep ball to take advantage of stills and parker's ability to go deep, he understands the offense better than thill and is a lot better at audibles and making adjustments on the fly. He will be able to run the hurry up which thill could not last season. It will be interesting to see what we do next season at QB if Cutler has a monster year. I personally like our situation at QB better now. I feel he is an upgrade over Thill.
I think the biggest issue I had with RT was his pocket presence. Hard to say how many sacks and turnovers could have been prevented. It is obvious JC has better pocket presence. But will his greedy arm abandon him lol
Cutler couldn't carry Marino's jock. Cutler was once sacked 9 times in a HALF and sacked 12 or 15 times in back to back games while throwing 5 or 6 INTs in those games. As for the praise: Said some Broncos fans when Cutler replaced Jake Plummer. Mistake. Said some Bears fans when Cutler replaced Kyle Orton. Push. Said some Fin fans before a game was ever played. TBD. And was already discussed elsewhere, historically, Tannehill and Cutler put up the same numbers each game except Tannehill takes an extra sack and Cutler throws an extra INT.
let's not forget, whether it was coaching or talent, we have basically been a sub 500 team with Tannehill. I guess we have to let the season play for itself
I don't think he's an upgrade, but there isn't much of a difference. I like Jay and think we can win with him this season. That being said, Tannehill has been a better deep ball passer than Cutler in recent years. Including under Gase.
Cutler is T-Hill's replacement for this year. We haven't committed to him past this year. Let it all play out and let's see. We can all agree that he was the best available option (Don't give me any of that Kapernick or Romo garbage). I'm hoping Cutler is the biggest redemption story of the year and he kills it putting us in a difficult decision going into next year that we'll happily embrace.
Everyone knows Cutler has had a shady past in the eyes of fans. I think the bigger picture, however, is that he is now our QB1 and the past does not matter- Gase thought he was the best possible choice for the task at hand. People are also making a mountain out of a mole hill over things like durability, interceptions, etc. In 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015 he missed one game each...and missed nothing in 2007-2009. He got hurt in 2013 and 2016...big deal. Likewise, his TD/INT ratio was 21/11, 28/18, 19/12, and 19/14 for the last four full seasons he's played- not awesome, not horrible either. It's middle of the pack for this league. The big thing to remember here is that we can win with Cutler just about every week. We have the talent up and down the offensive roster so I'm not sure where the hate is coming from.
What hate? Someone starts a thread titled "Jay Cutler will be better than THILL" is looking for debate. Everything else is a difference of opinion on his career and how much of an "upgrade" he'll be. He and isn't likely to transform into an "in his prime" Favre or Marino coming here. Hopefully he'll play well enough to beat his averages and put up better than ~28 TDs, 12 INTs and 8 fumbles.
I don't care if Vlad the freaking Impaler is our QB being backed up by Stalin. As long as we win I just don't care. Would've accepted Kapernick and his BS antics if it'd allowed us to bring the Lombardi home. I'm freaking 38 years into being a fan now. My moral turpitude regarding the Phins is long dead. Just want to win.
I have loked at some of the old tapes of RT from his rookie year, and he had substantially better pocket presence than in his later years under Philbin. Looking at some of the sacks RT took in years 3 and 4 of Philbin, I see a lot of situations where he had the possibility of avoiding the sack, but made the decision tomtuck the ball under his arm and eat the sack. I firmly believe that Philbin coached RT to take sacks rather than take risks, so I always thought the criticism of RTs pocket presence was overblown, in the sense that RT was doing what he was coached to do and not that he was oblivious to the pressure. I'm not saying RT has great pocket presense just that Philbin's coaching and the OL difficulties made him seem a lot worse than he really is.
