They arent doing any of the things I would have advised. Thats gotta be good for all of us. Seriously, it appears they have a plan and are targeting specific players. They arent going after every player available that other FO might chase.
I like that they are going for players that fit their needs. LB is a weakness so they've keep signing LBs until they find the right ones. They could upgrade PK and P, or get the similar production for cheaper, and they did so. I know OG still looks soft, but continuity is important with the OL and there aren't any obvious FA pickups out there that I can see. In the Philbin years you didn't get any sense of purpose, except getting rid of players who didn't "yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir".
Im no GM, but I think they have under estimated the need for a proper offensive line. For this team to win games, their defense cant be on the field. The most impressive FO decision IMO is keeping their own. Hope it continues w Juice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed. It's easy for us all to be armchair QBs and call for this guy or that guy but the fact that they don't have the same sense of urgency we feel they should have is kinda refreshing. They must be comfortable with what they have seen this preseason or they feel that they can coach up what they have. I am beginning to learn to trust our football people again. Now our medical staff, that's a different story.
I know enough to know I know nothing. They are in there seeing it living it. They got us to the playoffs last year. I'm behind the FO as long as we don't show our colon on three and outs on offense and our run D dramatically improves.
I trust this FO (really the ability of this FO to be on the same page as the coaching staff) more than any other we've had in recent history. I see most of the fan choices to be much more about names than talent. The perennially good teams are always heralded for finding and developing talent. If we return to that level on a long-term basis it will be b/c we find and develop unknown names, particularly at positions like OL, LB, and RB, and to a lesser extent WR, DL and secondary. Those positions tend to be made up of large groups and are more about coordinated technique than raw talent (I say "to a lesser extent" b/c talent is a difference maker at those other positions despite the large groups). Basically areas where we primarily want guys to "do their job". With the OL in particular, I believe that if we ever get back to having a good OL year after year it will be b/c we had consistent coaching and developed several low round players. That would be all but impossible if we spent too many high resources there (high picks and FA $). That's the only way we'll have depth to deal with the injuries that will inevitably occur and be able to plug in the next man up with little drop off. So basically fans *****ing about us being thin in certain areas is almost a prerequisite for eventual long term success.
Glad to see You wouldn't be going after a Place Kicker through this huge FA explosion.. I question the choice thought we should go after a punter...(kidding of course) Most impressive to me is their picking up Cutler and that has an asteric next to it, a choice they were forced to make could turn out to be their wisest decision. Going after every player is stupid but going after the right available needed players is also what makes the great coaches, great. And watching your team for 10-20-40- years gives some fans the right to their own opinions without ridicule because they are not getting a huge pay check. Wonder about some of Gases moves but giving him a realistic period of time to truly have a accurate evaluation of his ability. And not crowning him the new Shula just yet, but giving him the benefit of doubt most all the time. He already is a huge improvement over the past guys...
I agree.. bringing in Cutler when Tannehill went down is probably the most impressive FO decision. Your starting QB goes down and you arguably don't get worse (and possibly might get better)?? THAT is rare. And yeah this FO deserves respect.. as long as they keep winning of course!
Seeing through the absurdity of Laremy Tunsil's draft-day fall and bringing him to Miami to anchor the line for the next 10+ years. As for this off-season, I'd say signing Lawrence Timmons was pretty big, especially considering the leadership and experience he brings to the locker room.
I haven't see a linebacker in a dolphin uniform play that good in a preseason game like..in a long...long....time.. If that's Any indication...hupe upgrade over Melanie Jenkins and Spenser paysinger..
