That's no fun you should point at someone in particular. :wink2:

Personally which ever system someone gets they can't lose as both systems are great...but to me the PS3 is a step better.

My old xbox just died so I had to purchase a new system. Because of this I did a lot of on-line research.

The 360 has a better GPU, but all of the other hardware is superior on the PS3. This is from a pure numbers standpoint. The 360 was made by a software company and it shows. It is far easier to program for a 360, which is why cross platform games and PC ports are generally better on the 360. It is also why they generally have the better exclusive tittles. As software companies get to know the PS3 better it will be easier for them to write for it and the games will get better. This happened with the PS2. Look at how much better the games on a PS2 look now from when it launched.

The Blu-ray factor works both positively and negatively for the PS3. More positive IMO. First the negative, it isn’t the fastest drive ever. You get longer load times than you will on the 360 and is the PS3’s biggest bottleneck. This won’t effect game play, just loading the game and or new levels in game etc…The biggest positive is that it is a Blu-ray player. You can watch Blu-ray movies. It is also a Blu-ray player that comes with built in wireless so it can update it’s self. It is one of the few 2.0 players because of this. Also, as games get bigger you will still need one disk instead of multiple, which could happen on the 360.

I don’t think it can be argued that the 360 doesn’t have the biggest and best game library. It also has the best on-line support, which it should as you pay for it. Cross platform games are general better, sometimes a lot better on the 360.

All 360s come with HDMI cables now, the cheaper PS3s don’t. All PS3’s come with built in wireless, you have to buy it for the 360, and it is overpriced. If you get the top end system with all of the gizmos, the systems cost about the same. Well, the 360 would be slightly less if you don’t go with the HD drive, and you likely wouldn’t at this point. The 360 has much cheaper options if you just want to play games and don’t care about wireless.

I went with the PS3 because I do most of my gaming on PC and wanted a Blu-ray player. If I did more console gamming, I probably would have went with the 360 because of it’s library and on-line support. I have direct TV and they are fast approaching blu-ray quality HD movies (1080p) on the premium channels, (Dish network has it now) so a Blu-ray player is more of a want than a need. Though the extras will still make me want to own some movies.

That is only $10 cost (the cables I mean). if you make a choice based on $10 (considering the overall cost of the system), that is quite sad IMO.

You also forgot to mention that the ps3 can do 7.1 audio out, 360 can't. :wink2:

$10 for crapy cables, $30 for decent, $50 for great, and it does make a difference. And that was one factor of many given, and an example that both systems come with things that the other doesn't.

No it doesn't. I can get an hdmi cable from monoprice for under $10 that is every bit as good, if not better, than monster cables or any other cable carried at a big box store.

Often less, at Monoprice.com. Digital cables are digital cables; they're sending streams of 0s and 1s. Either the signal reaches its destination (cable plugged in) or it doesn't (cable not plugged in.) There is no signal degradation over short distances.

If all you need is 6 feet of cable, go cheap. There's no difference. If you're running a cable 30 feet, however--and my response to that is WHY?--then it makes sense to dig into your wallet.

Also, regarding your research of the differences between the 360 and the PS3: the PS3's RSX (based on the GeForce 7800 GTX, which is now ancient hardware by PC standards, but still) is more powerful than the 360's. The only differences are that ATi's is custom-designed, while Nvidia's is basically a compact 7800 GTX with more RAM and better memory handling in general.

The consensus is that the PS3 is more powerful overall, but the 360 is easier to program for, though that's not to say the PS3 is difficult to program for; it's far easier than the PS2, and developers had no trouble putting out PS2 games on a regular basis. These days, the biggest time sinks are the art assets (textures, character models, etc.) It's relatively easy to get a playable game up and running quickly on either platform.

To us end users, the biggest differences are the online structure (Live vs PSN) and the guaranteed presence of a hard drive in the PS3.

I read multiple sources that had the 360s GPU as being better. I'm at work so I cannot go to most of them (government filters) but here is one:

    http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/games/archives/2006/12/07/ps3_vs_xbox_360_a_developer_speaks.html

I know how digital works. I was under the impression that at the frequencies that HDMI worked at there was more of a loss issue, and you wanted better connections. If some of the 1s show up as 0s there still will be signal degradation. I did not really look into cables and looks like I overspent by $20 on my HDMI cable. Oh well, live and learn.

Buying any cable from anywhere other then Monoprice is insane. Top quality, good service and super fast shipping on top of a price that is unmatched.

When my g/f bought me my PS3 she also bought me the Sony HDMI cable (along with every other bell and whistle that you could add to the PS3) and I got her to return the cable. I had one running to my upconverting DVD player and used that until Monoprice sent me another. Shipping usually takes less then a week and will save you between $30-50 on the "store" HDMI's. Monster cable is probably the most overpriced item on the market.

The only time you need to spend BIG dollars on cable is if you have a super high end system and you're an audiophile. Even then, the difference is negligible. If you you want to make a difference in your system, spend your "cable money" on good quality speaker cable or use it to buy the next model up in any component you plan on purchasing.
