New England Patriots cornerback Cyrus Jones left Thursday night’s preseason finale against the New York Giants with a knee injury.

According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, the initial diagnosis isn’t good. Jones is believed to have sustained a torn ACL and will have an MRI on Friday morning to confirm the injury.

Jones was defending when his knee buckled and he collapsed to the turf. Stability tests in the locker room after the injury gave strong indications of the ACL injury, per Howe.

Jones had jumped into the primary punt return role with the Patriots following the loss of Julian Edelman to a torn ACL last week. Now they could be searching for a replacement for the second straight week.

Jones was a second-round pick of the Patriots last season and appeared in 10 games with one start as a rookie.

ME - Not as bad as Edelman but it was his replacement for kickoff

Welcome to the injury bug. We've been infected with the bug all preseason.

The Patriots are placing another wide receiver on injured reserve.

According to multiple reports, Malcolm Mitchell will join Julian Edelman on injured reserve due to a knee injury. Unlike Edelman, Mitchell will be eligible to return to the team later in the season. He must spend at least eight weeks on IR before he’ll be eligible to play in a game, but can practice after six weeks.

Tom Curran of CSN New England reports that offensive lineman Ted Karras will be promoted from the practice squad to take Mitchell’s spot on the roster.

The move will leave the Patriots with Chris Hogan, Brandin Cooks, Danny Amendola and recent trade acquisition Phillip Dorsett on the 53-man roster at wide receiver. That’s a thin group, although the presence of Rob Gronkowski, James White and Rex Burkhead give the team a variety of options in the passing game to make up for the absences.

Is there a way for a coach to be put in concussion protocol and held out til he passes? Cuz unless someone knocks that evil bustard out of the game he'll find someone else to get it done.

    Enter Anquan Boldin, stage right.

So you'd take a pats loss and they'll still make the playoffs, over the dolphins having to play 16 straight thus they definitely won't make the playoffs now.... interesting. so you are more of a pats fan than a dolphins.

What kind of post is this?? No one knows what our season is going to look like so don't assume we're failures before we play the games! Besides.. we already had a discussion about the effect of the bye in this thread:
    https://thephins.com/threads/bucs-game-moving-due-to-irma.91699/page-3

where evidence was provided showing the bye provides a very minimal advantage, so minimal it amounts to less than home field advantage for the game played right after the bye where the effect should be greatest! Which week the bye occurs has no discernible effect on win% and it doesn't have any significant effect on injury risk either.

Maybe you should have more confidence in this team, at least until they prove that confidence to be misplaced.

The Patriots have taken some serious hits to their roster thus far this season, but if anyone thinks the Patriots are going to be a push over and a walk in the park had better pour themselves another cup of coffee.

As much as I love our Dolphins and would never want to sound sacrilegious, Bill Belichick is today's Don Shula and like Don Shula, Belichick knows how to win and finds a way to bring out the best in the players he has.

BB may be the greatest coach of all time, but due to his cheating we will never really know. Comparing him to Shula, IMO, isn't close to accurate. Shula won with humility and dignity. BB wins with humiliation and cheating.

Past generations would call the Patsies cheating "gamesmanship" and congratulate you for getting away with it. Al Davis was famous for it. " If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin" " he said.
Please don't delude yourself in to thinking Shula never participated in any "gamesmanship".

Want to stop it? BEAT THEM!

BB and Tom Brady are cheaters. That's all they will ever go down as. They were never good enough to win a Super Bowl without cheating. They are still cheating. They just aren't getting caught now. That's how history will remember the CHEATRIOTS = Frauds and lifelong cheaters. And I love it that as a Miami Dolphins fan, I can say this for the rest of my life and be 100% accurate:

"The New England Patriots and Tom Brady are the most prolific CHEATERS in the history of the NFL. They can not be considered when mentioned as the GOAT at ANYTHING."

    SO ****ING SWEET!!!!!!!
For the rest of my life I can say that, and marvel in the detractors' crying. I will harvest their tears for only the very sweetest of my indulgences, for all eternity.

Put a $$$ number on that ecstasy feeling. How much is that worth? Priceless...no doubt.

Just great.. Saints' last place pass defense last year (and it was 31st in 2015 lol) might have just gotten worse. They gave up on average 273.8 yards per game passing last year, and opening night they give up 346 yards passing, 3 TD's and a 143 rating against none other than the great Sam Bradford LOL.

Got to hope Brees plays a lot better for Pats to have an 0-2 start. At least the game is in NO.
