Ricky had a great idea. Next season, no home games for teams in Texas, LA and Florida (first 2-3 weeks)
Just not worth it. I would like to take it a step further, since those teams are guaranteed to be away, how about not sending them far? I'd like to request the NYJ and Bills every year away for the first two games and never play them in the Winter

I'd propose the opposite. Have as many home games in September when we (long time ago) once were near unbeatable because of the weather.

Had them back in the day too when we were nearly unbeatable in hot weather at home. Move home games as needed when there's a hurricane. No need to unnecessarily get rid of home field advantage, especially when it's greatest.

I don't know man, we haven't been world beaters at home anyway early on. maybe it's best to play cold weather teams in the summer

We haven't been world beaters, period. Doesn't matter the season. The effect of the weather hasn't disappeared though, and you have a potentially greater home field advantage playing in September than in December.

I will grant you that it can be useful to have more home games near the end of the season, but as long as a win is a win (doesn't matter when you get that win) I still think we're better off with September home games.

Well.. it's a moot point anyway because neither of us has any influence over the schedule!

Not sure about that one. In December coming from 20 degree weather into 70 can feel crazy hot. Lately though the temp differences have been more in line.

The only way that would make sense is if the entire AFC east played division games the first three weeks. That way if Hurricanes threaten you just swap home games. But that would mean giving up home field in the winter and having to play outdoor games in the north in the winter.

    Example

Buffalo @ Miami wk 1 Hurricane threatens, swap homefields for week ??? vs Buffalo
NYJ @ Miami wk 2 same
NE Cheaters vs Miami wk 3 same etc

Don't think any of those franchises would be happy about playing in Miami in September EVERY year just because of the possibility of a Hurricane, do you?

And even if they were that would just guarantee we had to play in cold weather games late in the season every year.

That's a bit of a knee jerk reaction, don't you think? I mean seriously...objectively, it's a PTSD reaction to a very recent event. When you look at it objectively, Florida isn't so prone to hurricanes warranting such a proposal. Consider...

    2017: Irma
2016: Matthew...and TECHNICALLY never made landfall

Ok, back to back annual hurricanes but then you have to start looking further back.

    2005: Wilma and Dennis
    2004: Jeanne, Ivan and Charley
    1995: Opal
    1992: Andrew
    1985: Elena
    1975: Eloise
    1965: Betsy

Stopping there since '65 was the year of my birth, but see what I mean? Since 1965, hurricane...10 year lull, hurricane, 10 year lull...hurricane, 7 year lull...hurricane, 3 year lull...hurricane, 9 year lull...hurricane the following year, 12 year lull.

We just don't get hit so often with hurricanes warranting such a knee jerk reaction.

Jesus. I cannot believe the bye week crying has gotten to this level of ridiculousness. Some people are acting like there's nothing more important to a team than a bye and because we don't get one they are now going to stomp and scream like a 5 year old kid who didn't get a pony for xmas so now they don't want anything.

Not having a bye is no different than having a week 4 bye. Get the hell over it.

In 1995 didn't Erin and Opal hit?

Anyhow, I saw a graphic the other day showing how many hurricanes have hit the U.S., broken down by states. I think it went back to around 1880. Florida has had around 120 hurricanes and the next closest state was Texas with around 65. Florida, relatively speaking, gets hit by a lot of hurricanes, but I don't think that justifies scheduling all of Miami's Sept. games as away. Hell, many hurricanes hit in October should they schedule those as away also?

NFL teams do not get hit with natural disasters frequently enough to warrant changing the schedule to accommodate weather patterns, at all.

The NFL is corrupt enough already. No need to give them more ammo to "Fix" the schedule more to their liking. They are the enemy, too.

Sorry guys. Evacuated to the land of horrible internet. My point is that I think the NFL will err in favor of not giving any Florida, Texas or Saints a home game in first three weeks. Not wanting to see it happen but they are going to have to maybe cancel Jax game this weekend and went through a lot moving our game. If I'm them, I'm limiting the opportunity to have to move any more games. Again, not wanting it to happen but would'nt be surprised.

I doubt that. The NFL would probably have done that long ago if there was a compelling reason to do that. "Compelling reason" = money. And I don't think they're losing that much from rescheduling games in most cases.

Consider what happened to us. Rescheduling during the bye means the NFL doesn't lose gate receipts (they would have lost game receipts had they rescheduled to a neutral site) and they can still broadcast nationally if they want.

Of course in some cases they lose money (e.g. loss of gate receipts when Katrina damaged the Superdome, or when Wilma forced the Dolphins vs. KC to be played on Friday which could not be broadcast nationally). But these types of cases apparently happen too infrequently for the NFL to do what you're suggesting.

Simple solution- just don't have Miami play Tampa, Houston or Dallas and this is never again an issue. That way there's always a stadium we can play at on any given week. And if we do give up a home game due to weather, then we get a 9th home game the following year. Simple.

NFL wouldn't do this and I would be against it too. The way the NFL schedule is created today is really fair:
    http://operations.nfl.com/the-game/creating-the-nfl-schedule/

One aspect of that fairness is the number of home games. Add one for one team and you're penalizing another team (unfairly) by giving up a home game. I actually think the NFL handled this well so IMO no need to change stuff.

I did read the post. If we had played the game on the Thursday before, this idea doesn't spring up. The only reason this idea is thing is because Irma made us lose a bye week. If you guys weren't so besides yourselves for losing the bye you wouldn't think this idea you had was needed.

If a hurricane threatens the first couple of games next season, then the worst that will happen is that we'd lose a bye again....which is not a big deal. Since that is the worst that will happen football-wise then your idea is pointless. Especially when you consider that the heat in Miami is a weapon.

I've got a better idea... Hear me out...

I think to avoid all of this confusion, and robbing teams of bye weeks because of weather, natural disasters, or other unforeseen circumstances we should just put every team in a bubble. Better yet, lets have them all play in ONE stadium! A dome! Perfectly protected from the elements at all times. Make sure it's got enough back up generators so the stadium always has power too. That way, we can make sure the lights never go out, and the TV feed never gets interrupted, therefore ensuring that we always have a football game watch.

Since they're all playing in one stadium, there's no need to discuss home field advantage anymore either. So, no need to worry about going to Buffalo or NY in the cold, and therefore no need to schedule them in the first 4 weeks to avoid weather... because... well, were now playing all the games indoors. Plus, we'll get football every night!! So many teams, means many games a week and only one stadium, so I'd suggest we play every day of the week, and two games a day. Maybe 3 on the weekends and take one day off a week. I'll let the NFL handle that though.

Can't stop there though, because all we've done so far is protect the game from weather related natural disasters. So we've got to make sure this new NFL dome is earthquake proof. Yup. Can't have football interrupted for one of those pesky things either. Maybe we put it on top of some giant pillows? Or find a way for it to float... like a hovercraft. That way if the ground does open up, the stadium isn't harmed, and we don't have to stop the game. Perfect idea. Someone get on finding some engineers for that! Maybe we can get Ross and his real estate bunch on this project? Ohh!! It just dawned on me, maybe we could earthquake proof it by using Ross' ears for inspiration. Attach something similar to the side of it, having them flapping like wings keeping the stadium suspended in air the whole time!

Although now we have to deal with the wind issue... Hmm.. No big deal, we can have Trump and his administration build a wall around it!! Yes!! Dual purpose feature here. Blocks the wind to keep the stadium floating, which helps prevent flooding too, and it's an extra layer of security!

Now we just have to find a way to stop the stadium from being subject to a terrorist attack, or other acts of war. Sure, it's enclosed which protects it from airborne chemical attacks. We have walls already, and it's going to be floating... so we should be pretty good from ground based attacks, but I'm still not satisfied. I think football can still be interrupted causing a scheduling problem. Hmm.. what to do... Oh!! Wait! Just dawned on me, we have to make it Fireproof too!!! Actually, even better idea! For visual effect, and security, lets wrap it in barbed wire, that's actually on fire! Extra hot layer of protection, and damn! That's going to look so cool!

But wait... what about the potential for future alien invasion?!? We're going to have to build some sort of sci-fi type forcefield around this thing. It needs a bubble shield of some sort. Can't have those aliens probing us during a game.

So, I think this is the best course of action here. You can't dispute that. The ultimate stadium. No scheduling conflicts, so no more stolen bye weeks! No power outages. Virtually disaster proof.

Oh!! I almost forgot... the hidden beauty of this new set of playing arrangements... Since it's a shared stadium, not owned, or built by any particular team, we might finally be able to stop the Patriots from cheating!!!!!!!! Oh who am I kidding... everything else in this plan is more likely to happen than that...

TL,DR Version... that plan you've come up with is about as crazy as this one. No. Just no. And... yes, it's a slow day at work.

No one is besides themselves. Was a big issue for multiple teams. It was just an "I wouldn't be surprised if it happened". Was never any more than that.

If you're going to do all of that, then you might as well put some jets on the stadium so it can travel around and pick up fans/players alike. But if we're making it mobile anyway, then we may as well add oxygen masks and make it a full-fledged spaceship. Then if those aliens attack, we can let the starting quarterbacks throw bomb-sized footballs at them during halftime. What a show that would be...

But why stop there? We can arm all the fans with seat-mounted lasers and we can take the stadium to places like Iraq, North Korea and Afghanistan. High score gets an autographed football....who could resist such a challenge? Can you imaging the looks on the faces of Isis rebels when the flaming barbed-wire stadium of doom hovers over the horizon? They'd be slapping those camels like mad trying to find somewhere to hide.
