Im not usally a doom and gloom type of guy. I look at the positives in life, but lately im starting to get worried about the world.

Daily we seem to be heading down a dark path for humanity and instead of heading it off it seems we are on the fast track to world destruction.

It seems the world decided that after 911 we are ready to doom ourselves.

First IRAQ, Than North Korea, South America, Iran and now Russia all are defying the world's wishes..

Russia's latest aggressions are probably the most severe in terms of what it means. America no longer has the heart of manpower to stop all this madness.
Alienating Russia will embolden IRAN, and Venezuela, and other nations to band together and squeeze the US and force us into an all out war.

If Russia continues to in your face the US and the World. What choice do we have? International Sanctions take WAYYYYY to long and usally do not work. I mean look at IRAN it's been 2 years now and they still say every day they are going to build more nuclear facilitates. Russia is supporting them! All it's going to take is ONE bomb even so small to detonate in some country and the entire world will erupt in chaos i fear..

Isreal is going to have to bomb IRAN, Russia is going to condemn Israel and the United states, a new WARM War is starting, and if anyone here believes in numbers 2012 is supposed to be the end of time. Google 2012 end of time. You can read hundreds of pages about this time period and the Winter Solace.

What can and should we do? It seems the world is becoming way to SMALL with modern technology.

I personaly don't believe anything is much different nowadays in terms of where the world is in regards to destruction.

You just think it is so bad because media coverage is so much greater than it ever was, and the weapons/technology is just that much more advanced.

It is still people who make all the decisions though, that hasn't changed for the past millenium.

Good call Stiches. It really is all about the media. Its not that worse things are happening, its that we're more AWARE of these bad things happening.

Iam kinda worried about it and I believe the date is December 21 2012 the world is supposed to end. Dont know if I believe it much but it still gets me thinking. My friends and I talk about this sometimes and it really is scary when you think about all the stuff going on right now.

I am not worried at all. If it happens, it happens. It is going to happen someday. There have been around 6 mass extinctions on this planet.

There is going to be another one.

yes the signature is distracting for sure!! I know media is covering it more and for all I know its a plot to get Mccain Elected I mean Terrisom is something we do not really understand, but Russia we grew up with as our enemy. SO maybe they are playing it up for that reason alone.

2012 is a really interesting time as the calendar that the myians created way back when ended December 2012 and with the entire universe aligned that day etc it is weird..

I think what dupree is referring to is the mass extinction of life due to climate change, cataclysmic events, etc..................

The Mayans were very circular. 2012 could just be a restart of their calander.

I do think it is going to be an interesting time, especially if the earth does complete its wobble.

The Mayans were geniuses when it came to predicting astronomical events. THeir calandar is a thing of beauty

Yea, that is what I meant. By Mass Extinctions I mean most of life on this planet was gone in what looked to be an instant (Which could be hundreds of years when talking in billions)

Even if they never finished the calander this time would still be a huge event as it would be the end of a HUGE age.

Well from what I understand we wouldn't know exactly what the Mayans would do.

It could be from the end of the world to a kick *** party, kind of like what we do when we Celebrate a centenial. It would just be a Centenial Kicked up a notch, BAM!!

Honestly I think man's fascination and fear of death has them looking for death nearly everywhere. From the Bible, to the Mayan Calander to the Hall of the Great Pyramid. Just because an "end" of something is happening, doesn't mean there will be mass death.

Yes, and the Atheists who laughed in the late 19th and early 20th century when religious sects predicted the end of the world. And Y2K, and that dude who stands on the corner of Las Olas and yells at people going into bars with his sandwich board sign that says "THE END IS NIGH"

I didn't realize being an Athiest came with so many rules.

I guess I don't see how you cannot be an Athiest and believe in something about the significance of the Mayan Calander. As it does fall on two amazing events and one of them can be "cataclysmic".

Haha. You're right, I meant from an "Armageddon" standpoint.

Not sure what you're trying to say here... an Atheist would never believe in the predictions of a Mayan calendar. Kinda negates the whole point of being an Atheist does it not?

The term "Atheist", means one who denies God. Basically someone who is a non-believer. Generally this applies to divinity.

I can't speak for exactly how the Mayans came up with the predictions you speak of (maybe you could enlighten me), but I have a hard time believing it was based on science and science alone...

Well technically it is us who are coming up with the predictions. The Mayan calander is a scientific thing of beauty. It correlates with many astronomical events. The fact that the end of their calander corresponds to both the end of the earth wobbling and the earth being in alignment with the center of the galaxy is not just strange coincidence.

We have no idea how they were able to create such a calander that is so accurate with astronomical events. Yes there is a lot of mysticism surrounding these events as was the case in ancient times. Still just because a society believe that the moon was a god, doesn't mean the moon doesn't exist.

Again from what I understand we do not really know what the Mayans believed this end of the cycle would be. It can range to a mass extinction, to huge amazing event to a day where the entire earth should have the biggest New Years party EVER!!

Gotcha. So it is us (us being the modern civilization) who is speculating what these end cycles will entail. Well that makes more sense to me then.

If we are speaking on truely scientific terms than an atheist wouldnt discount certain theories, however the mysticism surrounding said events would make it hard for one to take them too seriously.
