Landry is better than Beckham

There I finally posted it. Beckham has the popularity and commercials because of one catch and his market in NY. But after watching the Chargers game, I realize that overall , Landry provides overall versatility and utility to this team. Ok fine, you want to look at numbers. Yes Beckham has that by a mile. But Landry not only can make the big play, he moves the chains in an offense that is totally dependable on him. I watched the Giants game last night. Saw a WR check out and not really engaged. I don't want to hear the injury excuse. Landry is asked to essentially run the ball with the bubble screens and was the punt returner until recently. Most important, Landry is not an attention whore and is not a distraction. It will be interesting if Manning continues struggle, what Beckham and Marshall do. That's a nuclear meltdown ready to happen. Landry still has maturity issues, but they stem from being a leader. Go back and look at Ajayi's huge runs last year, carefully. You will see Landry the last person blocking and first person greeting Ajayi. Landry also is a beast blocking for the short run game. But hey, Beckham gets all the attention, the commercials and the fantasy picks. But I am here to say that Landry is better, and because he has been in limited offenses, his job is to do the underneath things. If asked to go make more touchdowns, he could.

No. He's not. If the dolphins ran their team like the pats they would have traded him this past offseason before he gets a huge deal that makes him no longer a value.

"I don't want to hear the injury excuse."

Translation: I don't want to hear the reason that makes my post null and void.

Landry is great at what he does. Unfortunately, what he does is not as valuable as what OBJ does.

That's nonsense. Landry isn't injured to the extent of OBJ. OBJ said he was at best 80% for last night.

You don't really believe that...love Landry but does not have OBJ's speed to blow the top off the defense. In 3 seasons they have an identical amount of receptions but OBJ has 1,000 more yards. It's not really an argument.

Being a native of S. Louisiana, I watched them both every week for two seasons. What we saw at LSU is what we see now. Beckham was the big chunk yardage guy, spectacular punt return, highlight reel guy. But he also fumbled at critical times (UGA, 2013, in our own territory, cost us the game). Jarvis was the steady, sure handed open on third down, run hard to get the extra yardage, block downfield to spring the RB guy.

You have to put this in context...Its absolutely no surprise that Odell has more yards per catch than Jarvis. They are the classic Slot/Wideout contrasts. What pct of targets equal completions and what pct of completions equals first downs? That's the value.

Unfortunately or not, the way contracts fall and the FO decision to bring back Stills, it appears the decision to extend Jarvis will be a choice between him and Parker. I dont' see how you keep all three. I personally think we'd be better off keeping Jarvis and Parker and jettisoning Stills, but...(thankfully), my opinions of what should happen are very rarely followed by the FO.

Say what you want about landry but he's a critical player for this team. He might not be used properly but the Dolphins better pay him!

When they were both coming out I went to a popular LSU board and created a poll..

Question was...if you had to pick one for your team, who you got?

Landry won...keep in mind these fans had watched them for three years.

I think he's used beautifully..I think once you think you can use him differently/ lengthier routes, he becomes less effective.

I agree completely. He's a slot WR. Try to make him something else and you lose the value of what he is.

Landry is the heart and soul of the offense. He sets the tone for everyone. There is no one on the team I enjoy watching more, even Ajayi.
You never know what is going to happen when he gets his hands on the ball and even if he doesn't he is a physical and willing blocker, reminds me of Steve Smith like that.

Some of that would probably be who they like more. Landry was always one of the most popular players. He went to Lutcher...he's a regular kid, hard working joe. Odell was royalty. His parents both went to LSU on Athletic scholarships, he was groomed since birth to be an elite athlete.

I was pretty down on Jarvis Landry when he was making all of those bonehead penalties, but he has shown so much poise recently and I believe he has grown up. I want us to sign him long-term, and I believe we CAN keep ALL 3 WR's Landry/Stills/Parker, and we will. Math is a funny thing when dealing with the NFL Salary Cap. If you're REALLY good at it, it's like it never even existed. I think we will keep all 3 of our outstanding WR's.
