Take this as you will but in recent comments Gase was highly critical of the offense and seemed to be laying the blame on the players, at least in part. When asked if personnel changes are going to happen he answered, "Possible."

"I’m upset about the way our offense played. I’m just tired of watching it for two years, just garbage. We’re going to figure something out.”

Also when asked about what he liked about the Dolphins performance on Sunday, Gase said “Nothing.”

“It’s just surprising, some of the stuff we don’t do right,” Gase said. “We basically skimmed it back as much as we could over the last year. Trying to make it so we can play fast and [win favorable] matchups. We’re not doing it, so we’ll figure out a way to make adjustments.”

“just a lot of bad football”

“That’s more mental errors than we’ve had the last two years,” Gase said of Sunday’s punishing loss at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. “I’ll find the guys that want to do it right and those are the guys that are going to play.”

Asked how he thought Cutler played, Gase said, “Not as well as I’d like him to. He took a couple of vicious shots early. Thirty-four (Cutler’s age) is a little different than when you’re 25.”

“I have some ideas,” Gase said, “but it’s not really a hurry-up offense when you snap the ball at two seconds (on the play clock) every time.

“I’m upset about the way our offense played. I’m tired of watching for two years this garbage…We’ll make the proper adjustments, probably make some changes. We’ll figure out what we’ve got to do and get that thing rolling. I’ve been watching it for two years and it hasn’t worked.”

Now, after the first game Gase was critical of himself and his play calling, so one would assume he hasn't changed his mind on that and is keeping an eye on his own approach. However, these comments seem to make it clear that Gase is also going to hold the players accountable for their performance, "doing it right", and to some extent won't tolerate poor players.

I get the feeling he is talking about his TE from Denver and a WR or 2.

    Oh, and Tunsil for sure.

I imagine the entire oline is squarely in his sights. As well as the receivers.

Sounds like he was disappointed in the play of the WRs, the OL, the Te's, the Rbs and the QB. Specifically. I concur.

But I thought it was all Tannehills fault he had to scale back the offense???

I hate to say this, but I agree about Tunsil, a better guard than T. That is a major issue on the line today

It's interesting indeed. I have to watch the game vs NY accurately and I havent watched the entire game vs Chargers but from what I've seen against Chargers the offense is predictable. It's a bit a Chip Kelly-like effect, were your scheme is built simple so you can play fast but at some point you are too simple and offer easy markers of what you are trying to do and defense can adjust and you are not even going that fast.
I dont know why and how it was necessary to scale it back but I'm pretty sure when you change QB two weeks into training camp you have to scale back some stuff, even though Cutler has lot of experience and already played for Gase.
I dont agree we played always like crap these two years but it was almost never easy. Lot of things to fix, it starts with better coaching on the OL and go from there, stop force feeding Landry and work to have a more diverse approach getting more playmakers involved. We dont have Julio Jones or Antonio Brown, we need to play as a team.

As far as singling out players my guess is Julius Thomas has to be fed the ball more in a pass first offense or start riding the pine because he isnt a TE he is a big receiver.

I still say, I think Thill and his measured approach to the game planning, served as a check against Gase overthinking things. Peyton served the same role.

Guys like Cutler and Moore, with their gunslinger mentalities, just say yes because they believe there are no limits.

Gunslinger mentality was nowhere to be found Sunday, and just a little bit more against LAC. He consistently looked for the safest throw, even when it meant safe disaster. Part of it was gameplan driven but he is the man on the field, he can make throws if he sees them.

Thill and Gase had a very good relationship and Thill had good relationship with the offensive pieces in general, I dont know about the checks because Gase has always said he likes Cutler and they have a good relationship but for sure the fact he is relatively new on the job doesnt help.

He said the same things last year, fired two offensive linemen and the team turned around the next game.

Lets hope it has the same effect this year.

I waited a few days before posting since I was shocked how bad the offense played, and I didn't want to get dragged into "the sky is falling" types of posts. So I watched the game again this morning....here's what I saw.

Cutler looked like Cutler on the first few series. Moving well in the pocket, throwing accurate strikes. Then he gets leveled early in the 2nd quarter. His next pass is three feet too high. The one after that is even worse AND he throws it with no pressure at all. In the next series, he drops back and throws a bullet across the middle of the field....it's completed, but his throwing mechanics were all wrong. He actually leaned backwards and launched a 12 yard pass without planting his foot...a throw only Cutler could complete since he has such a strong arm.

Bad throws continue the whole game like that- poor form, awkward release, and inaccurate.

Folks, I think Cutler got a concussion early in the 2nd quarter and the coaches/refs didn't catch it. If you compare the 2nd drive to the 3rd, everything about his mechanics change. Maybe he just got timid and started making bad decisions but he looked like a different QB completely. Or maybe he just got tired....I don't know. You wouldn't think so since the offense was barely on the field at all.

to follow up with your theory..Gase acknowledge the very hit your talking about in his presser and basically said he's not a spring chicken anymore and that it may of had something to do with the way he played.

Cutler has a reputation for folding if you bang him hard. You have to keep him clean

It is so hard to look and blame one or two guys. The entire offense felt out of sync. I literally looked at my buddy, and said, "What were they doing all week?" I agree with Gase's assessment, but I also think that level of disorganization belongs squarely on his shoulders.

Honestly, I would consider scripting the first 10-20 plays on offense. Practice them all week in order to make sure that everyone is at least on the same page. Hopefully, that leads to some sort of success that we can build on.

Pouncey is fresh in the middle again with little practise time. So that could mean the OL need time to gel.

But to me it just looked like they weren't sure what they were doing, and even during the game against LA the offense seemed timid to me, not aggressive, not confident. There may be many reasons why that should be, or is, but so far I've seen little evidence of an offense with identity.

Cutler's new, it might be Gase's offense and Cutler might know it, but they've been together very little.

They have lot of talent so that could win them some games this season when the chemistry is right, but based on what I've seen I suspect this will be around a 500 season, maybe worse. Especially if Cutler can't play under the pressure and the OL doesn't improve.

Isn't he the head coach? Where was he during the trainwreck? Was he having a sammich and a nice draft beer? At least the captain of the Titanic was good enough to go down with it. He was the captain of the SS Bufoonery Von Bumblef@ck. Glad he is disappointed. Hoping it turns into us not looking like a Benny Hill skit on Sunday.
