If you have been thinking of buying this video game, this video could put you over the top.

I have been playing it for two days. I am having a lot of fun. It is a little repetitive, however it is a blast to play.

I didn't think this game was coming out until a little later this month. Guess I'll be stopping by Game Stop tomorrow to pick up a copy.

Looks fun, any call backs to the movies/books yet? With characters?

Looks a lot like Assasins Creed with LotR skins on the game

Its a cross between Batman and AC no doubt. But it is differentiated by a hierarchy system of bosses that can be player influenced. Each boss and sub boss have their own unique characteristics, strengths/weaknesses etc. I don't have the game but have been following it.

A lot of AC fanboys (not calling you one 305) are saying this a clone due to the parkour and combat. But, if that is the case then AC is a clone of Prince of Persia. I don't get the game industry nowadays. Everyone is so sensitive.

There is a Season Pass available which means multiple DLCs. I think I am going to wait for a Steam sale or something. I'm getting tired of paying $100+ for a game and its DLCs and then see it for like 35% off four months later with everything included.

I would say it is more like the lastest Batman. The combat feels practically identical, which IMO, isn't bad. The combat in Batman is really fun.

I never understood the insult that a game is a "clone". Most games are clones. It is like <blank> but... Even AC is a tomb raider clone.

If you like the combat in Batman, but wish you could chop people's heads off, then this game is for you.

This is my basic experience with the systems.

Basically when I first began, I died a lot. I was getting used to the controls, and how the world worked. I kept on dying. Each time I died, the Uruk-hai would taunt me, which got me mad at him, and then he would get promoted. Being promoted makes them more buff, and if they see you again they will mentioned the fact that you killed them. Well once one ran away when I was on top of a beast and he mentioned that this time around there is no beast to save me.

By the time I got good enough to be able to kill captains there were at least 5 Uruk-hai that I really wanted to kill. Especially this crossbowman. I fought this crossbowman once on accident, when I was going after another Uruk-hai, and I wasn't careful enough to scope my surroundings. He came out of nowhere and sniped me. Which of course made me mad. I went after him twice more, however he killed me both times. After a while, the Uruk-hai actually get quests of their own, and if you die, they pass the quests which make them more buff. Also, if they survive an attack, such as you are fighting two of them, both of them will gain a level. Well the crossbowman was on a hunt, when he killed me the second time, which caused him to go up 2 levels. Basically from killing me, being around someone who killed me, like this jerk with a shield who I killed yesterday, and quests he went from level 8 to level 18.

A crossbowman who was immune to ranged attacks, and all of my stunning attacks. Also, if he saw a beast he became enraged, which means he gets all his health back and is practically invulnerable as long as the beast is there.

When I finally got powerful enough to kill that bastard, I became very satisfied.

The only problem with the game I can see is now I feel like I am too powerful. I do not have much trouble dealing with waves of orcs and Uruk-hai. It makes me wonder if the rest of my game is going to be easy.

not sure what to think of this one. are all the captains as difficult to kill as the one this guy struggled with?

At first, yes. They get easier.

Each time you die, you get 100 experience.

I am at the point where I kill warchiefs(hardest guys) while being surrounded by 2 captains and 10 or more thugs.

I have to agree overall I really like the game and had fun playing it but clearing it in 2 days it felt a bit short and by the end ya your extremely powerful and top that with proper runes you become almost unstoppable lol. Overall I liked the game though will be interesting to see what they do with a sequel scale wise.

The DLCs would have to add something like castle seizes or world building for me to consider them. If it is just more story missions, that is what this game is based on, I don't see how that can hold my attention with the next game to come along.

I love LOTR and I love AC, but elements of this game make me wary. From what I've read, it involves "taking over" enemies, right? Not sure I'm into that. Also, I read that it can focus a lot on stealth, which I'm not much for. Either way, its not a "buy now" for me. Getting DA3 when I comes out, and that will consume all of my gaming time for a long time. Then Unity after that. Maybe I'll look at this one when its $20 or so later.

I am with ya there. I agree with what you also said on the fact if the game is overall the same but just bigger I would love the sequel big reason it will be a game I look for in the future game has a lot of potential and is already really good.

Stealth is an option but so is the other method, eventually it will come down to the type of uruk-hai you're facing. I use stealth to take down archers in strongholds and will definitely use it if the chief I'm targeting is vulnerable to stealth finishers, but there are a lot of them that are invulnerable to stealth. A lot of the fighting involves listing the aid of caragors, fly nests (they're like beehives in this game), and explosive kettles and barrels of grog (think a pretty volatile beer). So its completely viable to use methods besides strictly stealth if you use your surroundings the right way. This game does a great job at rewarding the player for improvisation and planning at the same time, and does a great job at rewarding the player for being opportunistic. Just something to chew on. I'm at 50% story completion and haven't gotten the Brand skill yet, the skill to take over and give directives to orc chieftains, but I've been having a blast slaying my way across the first map. The fact that you're never really safe in the map is something I hated at first but it is one of the strong points about the game, it feels very alive and the environment interacts with itself despite whether or not you give it a shove in the right direction. I've had packs of wild carsgors save my *** from an orc lynching once or twice. It makes the game interesting, often.

I've been thinking about getting a PS4 (Currently have a PS3), but there hasn't really been a game that came out that made me really want to get the system. Sure, the reskins of the Last of Us and Tomb Raider are nice, but hardly worth the price tag.

That being said, is it worth going next gen for this game? The premise sounds intriguing and it looks really good.

I am surprised more games have not copied the nemesis system from Shadows of Mordor. That made a game that could have easily gotten a little boring and redundant (ie Assassins Creed and the Batman Games) to a game where I couldn't put down, even though the protagonist was a generic brooding douchebag.

Looking at what they have improved, I am excited. If they pulled this off, they have created a game where I feel more in a lived world with a story that I craft by playing the game. I had so much fun with Shadows of Mordor. Not a perfect game, however, I put it down with one of my favorite experiences. Hopefully the sequel lives up to its promises.

They say that, however, I want to make sure first.

Back in my day there was something called an easy mode for sucky players and it was free.

Plus, the whole idea of making money is to create a pain point and then charge for solving that pain point. So, I have to ask, how painful are they making single player to try to convince me to pay for loot boxes. Also, I hate the idea of being able to buy orcs. It kind of breaks the world they created.

I just have too many questions that I need answered before I give my money to something I find morally wrong.

I may be old and my reflexes shot but I’ve still got my gamers pride...so easy mode isn’t an option for me ;) but I do feel you but I also think micro transactions are here to stay.. especially since for whatever the reason the price point for games doesn’t seem to move but the cost to make them has assuredly gone up.

If it has paywalls etc then I’m sure I’ll be bummed...if it’s Witcher/ME3 style I’ll be more than happy.

I would have less pride in paying extra money for help than switching on easy mode.

Microtransactions are not here to stay if people do not use them. I think microtransactions have their place, I just do not think they have a place in the single player campaign. If it was multiplayer only, sure, whatever. Do whatever you want in multiplayer.

Right now they are saying whatever it takes to sell the game. I am just saying I want a verification that this system that can potentially break the game does not actually break the game. I am going to trust the reviewers over the developers and publishers on this one.

The dev stating that he wants “players to be more invested” in the game has me concerned. Does that mean that I’m paying full price for a game and only get half of the game content? Will I be required to “invest” more money to get the “full potential” of content that was developed for this game? What happened to working hard, putting out a quality product and getting more consumers to want your product to earn more money? Free to play games is one thing but I nserting these MT’s into pay to play games is infuriating. I absolutely love the first game and that love for the game and previous love of the Tolkien world has compelled me to preorder the Mithril Edition. I don’t think I’m going to pick up the MithEd from GameStop and just preorder on XBLive now. And still if the MT’s turn out to be like COD or PvZ2 I will be furious.

Well I will admit to being an optimist when it comes to these things but I believe he was talking about the new online features for a longer term playerbase...so to keep the servers running for the online stuff and patches/content I guess they will use the MT to fund that. My hope is that's what he is talking about anyway.
