Ok, not giving up on this season. Hoping we do another magic act like last year. Not checking out yet. With that said, I'm putting an 8-8 record out there as the minimum record that should keep Gase here as coach. South of 8-8, he gets sheetcanned and quite possibly sued based upon how many more embarrassing outings the offense has (it's 2017 go ahead and argue the Dolphins can't sue him. You'll be wrong). After one more horrible outing, I would begin double top secret underground conversations with Jim Harbaugh. Sure he loves being the Michigan coach but 6 or 7 Brinks Trucks and a free mansion in Coral Gables or on the beach might say differently. I figured someone had to be the first to float this idea so why not me? Based on how we're looking we could pluck Josh Rosen from UCLA who would be a no brainer. Again, I want us to win this year and not have to worry about starting over AGAIN. I really really do. But if we keep sucking this is the plan I'd like to see.
Lol. Yes, you would think at some point we could hit on a coach that actually gets us to win in the playoffs. This is old but as of 2015, we were #6 longest drought since winning a playoff game (Chiefs, Lions and Bengals are among those ahead of us not sure whether they won or not since then). https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-...he-wait-has-been-long--painful-184546011.html
Gase has been bad, but the talent is worse. Miami guessed real bad at Tannehill's injury last year and not only did not draft a potential replacement, guessed wrong on Cutler too. The offense is based on running the ball, and when they can't they are dead in the water. Again, if you are going to stress running, get the horses to block
There's likely no way Harbaugh leaves Michigan, the guy is having too much fun there. There's also likely no way Ross will steal Harbaugh away from Michigan when he helped get him there in the first place.
I don't think you can ditch Gase after just one and a bit years. Especially not after losing the starting QB and other starting players, having to bring in a retired vet to take over (best option in a bad circumstance), and then having to put up with the knock on effects of the hurricane. The OL remains the glaring hole on this team, but there was legitimate reason to think it should be serviceable, and maybe still could be. As frustrating as it is as a fan, reality is what it is, the season got side-swiped by injuries and a hurricane. That's not to say Gase isn't partially responsible - in fact, as HC he better hold himself responsible, but not just for faults, for finding success. He's young. He's going to make mistakes. He's got to adjust to a ton of things, and yeah, that's his job, and he could have done better. But considering all that, I don't see the blame for this start can lay only at his feet, nor that firing him is the right solution. My hopes for each game has now gone way downhill, but it's not gone. It was great to see Tank back, I look forward to others returning when they can. I look forward to the receivers, OL and QB to start to gel and figure something out, and for Gase to be a part of that too. And if we go 1-15 (please nooooooooooooo) then I'll console myself with looking forward to a nice high draft pick. But we're not there yet. Either way, I'm aqua and orange, so I'll avoid the press crap that this sort of performance brings (and spare my health and sanity) and each game begin with Go Phins!
Harbaugh is hard to figure out, not sure he is okay with being a college coach. He has unfinished business in the NFL. Michigan isnt a team that is going to make the playoffs this year... Penn state looks a tier better than michigan. Ohio State is always good.
The problem isnt the coach. The problem has been the same for about 20 years at this point: terrible GM which leads to a horribly managed roster. We have signed average/not good players to big money deals and re-signed terrible players in the name of continuity (Bushrod) on top of ignoring dire needs for over 5-6 years at this point (guard). Stills is a nice player, he isnt worth his deal. Branch isnt good and has never been good, his deal was the worst of any team last offseason. Landry if he gets paid will be a foolish move because he is an above average reciever. He should have been traded for a 2nd round pick or if you could get more then more than that last offseason. We will likely lose him for nothing more than a compensatory pick because Tannenbaum is a terrible GM and is doing the same thing to us that he did to the Jets. We still cant draft for ****. IDK how many different corners and guards one team can strike out on. Our Lb's have been ignored for years as has our horrific guard situation. The fact that we re-signed the worst guard in the league last year in Bushrod is mindboggling incompetence as well as not signing any of the top guards when that was a position that was overwhelming with talent in free agency. This team is just built so horribly in contrast to a team like the Patriots. The patriots literally do not have 1 contract on their roster that isnt at a value or at the very least isnt overpaying a player. This team literally is the opposite. Even our best players are paid to ridiculous amounts which limits our ability to improve our roster in other areas. We re-signed Branch and Stills for way more than they are worth rather than letting them walk. That is a mistake. IF you draft a guy like Carroo, let alone trading multiple picks to go up and get him, he needs to be your replacement for Stills by year 2. We have invested 3 first round picks in our offensive line and our offensive line is garbage. This entire team is just horrendous and it is solely due to our GM's (not just Tannenbaum). We are a horribly run franchise and have been for over a decade at this point.
I told the people on this board last year but you were too caught up in a lucky record in one score game against terrible teams, but this team was not very good even despite a wild card berth last year. We won an absurd amount of one score games against terrible teams last year and got blown out by almost every good team we played. Our pythagorean record last year was that of an average team. Im not saying we were bad, im saying we were beyond average and incredibly lucky. Any team that is 10-6 could easily go 6-10 as well. The difference in teams that go 6-10 and 10-6 is really not that significant and we have been stuck in this middling bull**** for years and the fans continue to get excited when they should realize just how poorly this team continues to get run year after year. Tannenbaum has gotten a pass for too long. He is a terrible GM who wont have a job after his tenure here ends soon. Also, pouncey has also gotten a pass for far too long. Not only cant stay healthy, but he hasnt graded out as above average since 2012, and that was the only time he ever graded more than average. If he doesnt turn it around id highly consider moving on or at the very least heavily restructuring his deal in the offseason. He is not able to be counted on at all to either stay healthy or productive and he has a fairly large deal.
Absolute lunacy to suggest a coaching change at this point. New coaches generally receive a three-year window from NFL owners to find their footing, and ours made the playoffs in his first. As far as I'm concerned, he has two more years at minimum in Miami. The problem isn't his play-calling, either; he has no choice but to call conservatively because the damn offense can't execute a single play without a mishap somewhere. It's a matter of the offensive line, the receivers, and the running backs gelling with their new signal caller as much as it is about understanding a highly complex offense. If these things come together, like they did in week six of 2016, Gase will open up the play book. Make no mistake, this is the mark of a good coach--not a dumb one.
This is either a knee-jerk reaction ****-post or intentionally inflammatory. Adam Gase is currently 11-9 as our HC. At least wait until he has a losing record before suggesting a reboot of the Ross/Ireland bumble**** plan.
Jim? Or John? Cuz I would be all over John, Jim not so much. Good chance John is available after this season. Better than the chance of Jim being available.
Just like last year after TN, Miami has bottomed out. The good thing, is the offense doesn't need 30 to win. They need like 18-21. I keep harping on how KC has unleashed these under-sized stars like Hunt and Hill. Are we saying Grant can't be used that way?
I can't help but shake my head at some of you guys. By "your" logic, we should have fired Shula in 1976, 1980, 1988, 1989. Maybe we should have fired Shula in '93 when Marino went down with his Achilles tendon injury and we only finished the season 9-7. Season 2 after Gase took a dreadful team to the playoffs in his first season and you guys are wanting to jump ship already... Sometimes, some of you guys can be the biggest crybabies. Do I get upset and frustrated when we lose? Sure I do and I'll vent in the heat of the moment, but last week's game...with all of the distractions this team has faced in the past couple of weeks is 4 days passed. Take a chill pill or at least....a Midol
Let's be reasonable here... Gase has been so bad in two games that we should probably just shut the whole thing down. There's no need to have a football team in Miami anymore. Gase has ruined the entire city now. At this point there's no need for the city of Miami to exist either. We should let Miami secede from the US as an independent country, then we should invade and pillage the city. Erase the Miami Dolphins from history. That would really send a message to Gase about how bad his playcalling has been. Gase should probably be put on trial for treason too. Calling a screen pass? Treasonous bastard! We might as well just call him Benedict Arnold from now on. He's OBVIOUSLY trying to destroy the Dolphins on purpose. He has shown over the last two games to be the single worst coach in the history of football. At the very least he should be tarred and feathered. Then we can all jump off a bridge because the world is over. It's the only rational thing to do.
While I think Gase is still learning how to be a head coach in the NFL, I also do not see him as the problem with this team or the organization. I believe the real problem is Tannebaum and his lack of ability to build a quality football team. He constantly spends freely on mediocre talent and the reality is that the overall talent on the roster today is no better than it was when he was installed as head of football operations. To me it doesn’t matter who the head coach is. Because as long as Tannebaum is in a position to have any control over the Dolphin football team, this organization has zero chance of becoming anything more than it is at this time. Mediocrity is the best we can hope for as long as Tannebaum is head of football operations and eventually being a bottom of the barrel teams in the NFL is probably where this team is headed with him in charge. Ross should fire Tannebaum, hire a head of football operations who actually knows how to build a quality football team. With quality talent on the roster, I think Gase will turn out to be a very good head coach for the Dolphins IMO.
