The love people have for Moore is just weird. Dude is a backup, plain and simple. And the Earl Morrall comparison? Yeah, no. We aren't going anywhere with Moore, not to mention dude is probably one good headshot from IR/Retirement himself.

Now ... is he a better option than a Cutler, especially a hurt Cutler? Probably. In my mind, once you bench Cutler though, it's over. Only take that step if you are done. I wouldn't really care either way, dude has not been producing.

I'd still say bring in Kaep. Flag/Castro junk is just your own projection, leave it at the door. We have protesters on the team already and you are still here. Shut up or go away. If he can help us win, good enough. You would probably leave Moore in for a few weeks promising Kaep nothing but backup. If/when Moore gets hurt or ineffective, in comes Kaep. Now we also have an option to play at the end of the year between him, Tanny and draft.

At this point, after what Moore did today, and the reports of a broken/cracked rib for Cutler, AND a short week coming up, I think you start prepping Moore as your starter for Thursday, no questions asked. If he plays well, he keeps the job and Cutler hangs out on the sidelines when he's healthy. He started to look like he was finally coming around, but his mechanics are still a disaster. Moore's timing with the system and the WR's is at a point where it likely just wont reach with Cutler. It's not the Moore is some special QB. He's not. He's just better in this system and team than Cutler at this point.

Kap should have a job in this league, it shouldn't be in Miami though. Also, all those good throws cutler and Moore combined to make today? Not sure he makes 80% of those.

He won't be here so it's moot but he isn't a very good passer of the football.

As far as Moore, what he brings is athletic ability in the pocket. When you have an OL that is getting **** pounded every snap it helps to have a QB who can get outside the pocket. He also will just sling it when he sees that Cover 1 BS we get where they crowd the box. Moore will take that 1 on 1 shot for better or worse.

It's really about how the team responded when Moore entered. All of a sudden you had extra effort, passion, and circus catches. I don't think it's coincidence. If the team plays harder for Moore, play Moore.

Also I'd like to add I don't think Cutler is just going through the motions with this. I think he cares. The broadcast even mentioned him staying after practice to work on footwork and technique. He gets too much flak for not caring. But still, start Moore if the team responds better to him in the huddle.

No, that would be dumb. We are not a BAD team. Trying to tank with a half decent team would fail and you'd end up with a **** season and not a great pick. While I don't consider us contenders, we have the potential to play some fun ball and make a playoff run. I wouldn't be averse to picking a QB next year though. I was not a Tanny person before. He was alright, not good enough imo. Knee issues just devalue that further, move on.

While cutler was looking better today, the difference between him and Moore was stark. The offense looked completely different with him under center. This is what happens when your qb stands in the pocket, goes through his reads, and isn't shy about throwing downfield. Also it was interesting to see the receivers suddenly getting open and catching everything thrown to them.

Colin already stated he would not kneel this season.

Which year? The season where Green Bay went out and signed Matt Flynn? Or the season where the Romo got hurt and the cowboys went out and signed Matt Cassel? Both QB's were FA signings that started the majority of the games the starters missed.

    Wrong.

I've noticed your narratives and facts are often at odds. Jay Cutler was the logical choice to replace Tannehill. It hasn't worked out very well to date. I'm OK with Matt Moore starting ROS, but we know his limitations.

Btw the biggest difference between these two QB's outside of their demeanor is the fact that Moore trusts his receivers to make a play. Cutler does not. Cutler was retired. He came on board at the last minute and it shows in his delayed release on routes to this group.

This is Kaepernick basically "begging" now. He showed his butt all last season, the 49ers were an epic 2-14 last season, the man QUIT by opting out of his contract and then had a sense of self-entitlement..."someone will sign me". Well I don't know too many teams that are eager to sign a quarterback who brings that much baggage to a team, whose level of play resulted in a 2-14 season and then just quit on his team. Oh and then files a lawsuit against the NFL because "no one will give me a job, boo-hoo"

Last season when a rookie back-up named Dak Prescott led the Cowboys to the playoffs and this season with the Packers going with Brett Hundley. Oh, and the seasons you reference...how did those QB signings fair for those teams? [/QUOTE]

Now I stated initially when Tannehill went down in preseason that the Dolphins should have taken a page out of Shula's playbook and gone with their proven backup in Matt Moore, but I've also stated that signing Jay Cutler made sense at the time. I've further stated, after watching Cutler play 5 games that the fire is not there anymore and his decision to retire extinguished that fire.

Moore is a great back-up. He knows his role and embraces it. There are other teams he could have made a run at trying to be a starter but he elected to stay in Miami. He works his butt off, has the respect and trust of the offense and when called upon he goes out and plays to win. In the final 3 1/2 games of last season, Moore was 2-2 (sitting on the bench all season) with a QB of what, 106 I believe it was? He comes in yesterday, leads the offense to 17 unanswered points, 13/21 for 188 yards, 2TDs 1 INT and a QB rating of 102.

What I don't understand...what just absolutely floors me is if the TEAM respects and trusts Matt Moore, if the coaching staff trusts Matt Moore (notice he didn't just hand the ball off every play), then why in God's name can't we fans trust him? This isn't the 2006 season season when we were starting unknowns and unprovens in Sage Rosenthal and Cleo Lemon.

I agree. I think the right thing to do is see how Moore does on Thurs. The offense seemed to click a lot better with Moore in there yesterday that's undebatable. Let's see how Moore plays and if there is a hot hand, we should stay with it. In Gase I trust.

Some of you think bringing in Kaep, who hasn't played a meaningful down all season, on a short week, is a better option than Moore?

    EL OH EL!!!!

I think Moore can jumpstart this anemic offence. The offence was very productive when he played last season. It was the defence that let them down last season. A defence that seems to be greatly improved.

Even yesterday when they give up 28 points, two of the TDs came off of turnovers.

The offense has clicked better, and there has been more energy every time Moore has played. He should have been the starter this year and last.

For anyone to ignore the energy level and the way the team plays faster under Moore is just fooling themselves.

I don't dislike Cutler, kinda like him, and the signing made sense, but Moore still should have started.

Not one snap with the first teamers, shakes off some rust early, then brings us back like that. Kudos MM8!

As far as who starts - Gase shouldn't say a damn word until closer to game day in order to force the Ravens to spend time preparing for both. Think about how hard that would be for them on a short week.

This isn't the Madden video game. Colin Kaepernick has no shot grasping a playbook at this point in the season.

How can you be a football fan and not understand this?

You think Gase wants to change his playbook to Kaepernick's skill set of "read 1, if not open, run"?

    Stop playing video games.

I'm not a fan of Cutler by any stretch, but I do feel for any guy that gets hurt. He put together two solid halves in a row from the Falcons to the Jets and looked to be getting more comfortable with the offense. That being said, all the statistics anyone can throw out there won't measure that "something" that lights a fire under a team. Moore is a hell of a backup and we're lucky to have him.

Matt Moore has been productive every stint he's been given to QB this team. He made the tail end of the 2011 season respectable. He helped us get to the playoffs last year and he saved the team from getting swept by the Jets this season.

What more do you people want dude to do?

He's not the answer for the future, but at this point the Dolphins have to think about life after RT, because we don't know what he'll be like after facing live bullets next year for the first time since 2016.

Nope. The team played in the 2nd half the same way the team played during the 2nd half of the Falcons game.

For some reason this team doesn't play to their potential until the 3rd quarter.

So most media outlets are saying that Moore will start until Cutler is healthy and then Cutler will continue as the starting QB.

Also, we should hear of a signing of a backup QB today.

I disagree....you could see the whole energy changed on the field when Moore came in. And once Fasano screwed up, they played even tougher yet. Landry ran to Moore several times after a catch excited and slapped him on the shoulders celebrating, it wasn't hard to see they were playing their asses off for their QB.

One thing people don't realize is that when the team is asked which QB they prefer, the "PC answer" is whoever Gase decides to start on any given day. Our team has always rallied around Moore though because they believe in him 100%. The guy just sweats confidence and its contagious.

I agree with that. But a third of cutler's yards were on a miracle catch by stills. Without that play they might not score on that drive.

It was pretty evident that Moore had much greater command in the pocket. Was much more decisive with the football.

When a guy comes in after not a single snap of first team reps the previous week and plays comparable, if not better than the injured player, I'd say he's the better option going forward.

A lot of Cutler's drives were extended by Jet penalties too.

This would make sense, though if Moore kills it, will be hard to take him out. The Cutler situation is so unique though. Unless Gase REALLY thinks Moore is an answer to a legit challenge of New England and deep playoff run, it will be Cutler when healthy regardless of Moore's play imo.

Yes and no. They are calling for him because of Cutler's subpar play. However, his name (at least on this forum) gets dragged out frequently as if he is some kind of savior or hero waiting in the wings for his big chance. The truth is the dude is a career backup. A solid backup, but a backup. Can he do more for us today than Cutler? Perhaps! Maybe even probably! But is he the difference between what we are now and a Super Bowl challenge? No, not at all. I've never been on the Moore hype train.

What's the old saying? The most popular guy on the team is the backup QB?

    Exactly.

Moore was moving the chains sans a running game and not continuously aided by penalties. I will say though that if you look at Cutler's last 4 quarters there were some improvements - I believe we put up 5 TD's in that time. However, his sloppy footwork and lack of anticipation in his throws were still there.

The thing I like about the setup now is that we have a defense capable of keeping us in games and a running attack that is at least a threat. Last year when Moore came in we had matadors on defense.

How is Kap's decision to opt out of his contract quitting on anyone? Players choose to opt out of contracts all the time -- to do so, is a business decision. Organizations choose to execute opt-outs on players' contracts all the time, also. There's no difference.

Did you spend any time watching the 49ers last year? Based on your comments, I'd say you viewed very little.

Kaepernick started 11 games last year, supplanting Gabbert after he began the year 1-5. During that stretch, Kap threw for 2,240 yards, 19 TDs, and 4 INT. And that's with a God-awful O-line, a lame duck coach, and an embarrassing supporting cast. He was one of the team's very few bright spots last year.

I supported Gase choosing to go with Cutler following Tanny's injury due to his familiarity with the offense, but in hindsight, I wish the organization had gone with Colin. I think they'd be a better team with a higher ceiling this season. The vertical passing game is Kap's strength, and with this WR core, that could have been a lethal combination. Colin's athleticism also would have made the read-option with Ajayi and absolute b-itch to defend.
