Guys...we have David Fales to back up. The Kaep discussion has strayed into politics and we are working to keep that out of the football forums.

This is only really a question because of the Madden video game series. We think in terms of player X is better than player Y. Usually, we have some sorta mental rating for each player. Kap is 78 overall where Fales is a 68. However. in real life, it is nothing like Madden.

Cutler was hurt on Sunday. Our game is on Thursday. Anyone outside of Fales or Doughty are not even realistic options. Kap, RGIII, Ponder, etc. could not possibly be expected to come in and learn a system and build a chemistry with our receivers in 3 days. Imagine trying to bring in Kap in Madden but only having 20% of a playbook available and throwing to receivers that he's never thrown to before. If Moore went down, we need someone that is familiar with the system/team. Now God forbid, it Moore were to get hurt this week, it would make sense to bring in a vet with 10 days to learn a simplified system and game plan around. This would make more sense because it would provide us with at least three potential starts.

In all likelihood Moore makes it out of this week, and at most are looking at a guy needing to play around 2.5 games at the very most.

If you think about it Fales and Doughty are really the only two real options.

Find me the metric that demonstrates that kaepernick would make a tangible difference on a contending team. He doesn't have a team because his talent does not outweigh his baggage. Not sure why this hard for you to understand.

I'm not going to second-guess Gase because he obviously knows more about his quarterbacks than I do. But the way that Moore elevates the offense is undeniable and I don't think it matters who's playing better....maybe it is the rest of the team carrying Moore. That's not the point and Gase seems to be completely missing that.

Whatever the reason may be, our offense put up more points in a quarter than they usually generate in a full game under Cutler. That's without Parker, mind you.

And the first series Moore was in for....we ran 3 downs and then punted. The 2nd series is where Fasano screwed up. The third series we ran on 1st and 2nd down with Moore finally moving the chains with his arm on 3rd down. That takes us to the 4th quarter and it's where the play-calling changed with the training wheels coming off. The rest of the game was Moore carving up the Jets defense left and right.

So here's my question- if Gase thought it was the offense carrying Moore, then why didn't he have the offense carry Cutler as well? Why haven't we seen Cutler throwing 5-8 downs in a row downfield and attacking the defense? Gase's actions here say that he's not being truthful about his QB controversy- he clearly knows that Moore is the better choice.

I guess he's just not ready to publicly eat crow of that magnitude yet by starting the wrong guy.

Yeah, we aren't doing the political bs thing. We aren't signing the guy, the only relevance he has in relation to this team is the time he got caught on IG with a Phins cap.

The guy is 3-16 in his last 19 starts. I agree. Let's go with the player most capable of winning games. That's Moore. And as far as backups...if we need our 4th string we are in trouble. But Fales it is.

You're seriously dragging out W/L in the ultimate team sport? How many reasons do people give for Tanny? Do you think Wins is still an important stat for pitchers in baseball too?

That said, yes, for the next few weeks, Moore gives us the best shot.

Dude, you're trying to make a football case for a guy who lost his job to Blaine freaking Gabbert! Most teams in the league don't have 1 good QB, if he had a shred of talent, in a league full of mediocre QBs and plenty of guys with felony/misdemeanor charges, I'm pretty sure he'd be rostered. Make a football case for him because I can't find it. Since Harbaugh left that whole team went to crap, Kaep is 3-16 as a starter and lost his job to Gabbert, and yet Alex Smith got better so I think the questions that need to be asked are:
    1) How much is Alex Smith getting in FA next year?
    2) What happened to Kaep?

And to be clear, I didn't like Kaep prior to the the draft, I didn't like Kaep prior to his kneeling....I've always disliked QBs who tend to run a lot or struggle from the pocket.

As for a "football case" sure, check the link in my prior postings.

How long did Gabbert last, 5 games? And jog my memory, was Gabbert actually drafted by the Niners? No? He got another shot on a team for being white and polite? Coolio. How have any other QBs in San Fran done since then?

You ironically enough hit the problem on the head though. It's not Kaep ... it's the lack of Harbaugh. With a good coach and good team, he took them to a Super Bowl and was a power outage from winning it. Sorry, that's not luck or chance. No other QB has done jack **** for them, it's a team problem. When you replace Harbaugh with ****ing Tomsula? Please. That place is a raging dumpster fire. Anyone who ever whines about Steven Ross should take a good look and count their blessings we don't have an idiot like Jed York in charge.

Give Kaep a good coach and he will produce. I firmly believe that with a few weeks, Gase could absolutely do it. From a realistic standpoint, yeah I know it has maybe a .333 (repeating of course) chance of actually happening. Yes, I absolutely agree Moore is our best shot for the next 3 ish games. No, I have no confidence in him long term. I also have very little in Cutler. And beyond them, well it's draft position time.

In case you're ever wondering why we don't do politics on this board any more, that (bolded) is a perfect example of why. Never mind the fact that Gabbert was a high 1st round pick and got a second chance...instead it's about race. What a hot load of horse crap. Why did Robert Griffith get additional chances? Why has every other 1st round wash out gotten additional chances? It's called potential. It's what gets coaches and GMs fired.

We don't disagree on Cutler. Long term on Moore, he is what he is, a great backup and better then Cutler. And long term Tannehill may or may not be the answer; personally I love Josh Rosen this draft. Mayfield wouldn't upset me either.

The problem with your argument regarding Kaepernick and Sf being a dumpster fire is that, if you remember, Kaep was one of those players who wanted Harbaugh out. You can't have the cake and eat it too. You asked for a good coach to get canned and then use the new coach as an excuse? No. Yeah they've struggled since Harbaugh has been gone. And when SF fired their GM who kept loading up talent for them.

Again, every GM and coach disagrees with your assessment. The SB run you're referencing was what 4 years ago? A lot changes in 4 years, including a players skills. If he was still the same player as that QB who was close to winning a SB, again, he'd be on a roster. A league that allows Big Ben, Ray Lewis, Leonard Little etc to have full careers would surely a guy who was kneeling for an anthem to have a career right? Guess he's not that good or not worth the blowback.

Sorry brother, but EVERYONE drags out W/L when it comes to rating quarterbacks. If you don't believe that, then just ask Kaep why he was about to be fired from San Fran. Then look at the QB carousel in cities like Buffalo, New York, Cleveland, Washington, Miami, etc....not a single QB has been benched, fired or traded while the team was winning.

Losing QB's get the bench or worse...and that's a coaching decision, not ours.

There you go, you found it!

And don't pretend race doesn't play a role. Is it the only factor or even major factor? Nope. I know that full well, thanks. But to dismiss the fact that the protest is from a black man regarding what is often seen as black issues? Yeah, 2+2 and all.

Fact is (yes FACT), literally. every. single. damn. QB that posted success even in the ballpark of Kaep got second and often third chances. In terms of just talent, Kaep blows every FA QB away right now. Not even close. Now, does an owner want to deal with that blowback? Clearly not. They also then are not interested in fielding the purely best team possible. /shrug

Just to be clear: there is basically no argument to say that Kaep is not playing based purely on talent/ability alone.
His reason for not being a QB right now is 100% based on the protests. Pure and simple. Risk/Reward, cost/benefit, whatever you want to say. He's not employed because owners don't want to deal with the PR in exchange for his services. But take that issue away and he is employed somewhere right now. Just tired of the junk arguments that go with. If you don't want him because of the kneeling, whatever that's your right. If you think he is not a good fit based on scheme, based on time off, based on lack of lead up, whatever, all valid arguments! Just saying "he's not good" ... well no, that's not gonna cut it.

Wins/losses is basically irrelevant as an individual stat. Yes, a winning team generally keeps their QB, but that's because the team is generally good enough for a QB to succeed. On losing teams, they (and coaches) are the easiest scapegoats.

No you don't know it. You're making an excuse and clinging to it like the crutch it is. Robert Griffith got a 2nd chance...and a 3rd. So did Mike Vick...post prison. What's the excuse for that? Better yet, don't answer. It's about football not politics. The politics only serve to draw attention to an act of selfishness that puts individual priorities above team. A guy that's 3-16 and looks awfully mediocre that last 2 years is fielding the best possible team, in your opinion? I'd rather go and give someone who is actually interested in football a shot.

How many mediocre seasons has Tanny had? Yet people still clamor for him.

Nope, bull****. See my previous link. Again, it is a FACT that Kaep is the ONLY QB IN NFL HISTORY to not get at least a second chance with a new team when posting anywhere near his stats. I mean ****, you all but admit it yourself. Gabbert was picked up AND STARTED! And then benched for Kaep. Wop Wop!

It's really that simple! That is an actual fact! It's true! THE.ONLY.ONE! Just him! That's it!

Now, what makes Kaep different from the rest?

Nope not Bs, it just doesn't fit your narrative of race baiting. Again, you're talking about stats from 4 years ago. I'm talking about the last 2. Kaep brought all of this on himself with his selfishness. Gabbert was picked up and started because your boy couldn't cut it. That's the only thing I admitted. And careful who you say Wop around...that's not a good word for Italians where I'm from lol.

Qbs should be judged at what level of individual play did they achieve...that’s when you know what you have...fill in the variables after that.

If you have seen it once, it’s very likely you will see it again..

I saw it in the super bowl and that’s all that matters...did you have your best performance with the most at stake, with the most pressure involved..

Kaepernik did and there is no denying it.

That means once I build a team around that, I can depend on that replicating.

Those 49er teams were easily the most talented in the league for those years. They got outplayed by the giants. And then Baltimore played an inspired game and beat them. And the bigger problem, is he hasnt played at that level since individually.

You can harp on a bad season all you want. Ultimately, you seem to be arguing that Kaepernick, based purely on talent alone, with no mitigating factors, did not deserve another shot. If I am wrong, sorry bro. The refutation to that, and why it is BS, is because, again ... literally every single QB who posted a season with stats like Kaep did LAST YEAR (not his apex, last year) got another shot, if not more. Like, you know, Gabbert. That's not exaggeration. It's a fact. Every one excepting injury or drugs got another shot. Not all succeeded, not all even played, but they got signed, went to camp, and were evaluated. Sorry, the NFL doesn't have any super secret info on Kaep that they didn't have on Gabbert, Glennon, RG3, Sanchez or any of the other ****ty QBs that populate rosters to this day.

If you want to argue that his level of talent doesn't outweigh the PR he would bring? Ok, fine. That's an arguable point clearly, and I would honestly agree with it, as dumb as I personally think it is. But just to say none of that matters because he sucked? That's a failure of an argument. Again, what separates Kaep from the rest? It's not hard to figure out.

Regardless, our path seems pretty well set.

Tebow played worse, accomplished less and got in trouble for kneeling and he still got numerous opportunities. That alone proves CKap is being blacklisted for political (and potentially racist) reasons.

There is literally no rational argument for Tebow getting the chances he did and CKap being blackballed that doesn't include the protest (and maybe skin color).

    That is simple fact.

Doesn't matter, he had multiple opportunities. THAT is the point. Kaep has had 1, and has been blackballed from a second.

99% of people in the league are "me first" and that includes the staff, owners and GM.
