Kiko getting burned by Cook for the entire 1st quarter of the Raiders game shouldn't detract from the great year he has been having. I doubt that there is a LB'er in the league that could have been successful against Cook on Sunday night. Timmons, Kiko, and Maualuga have all been good to great this season.
If Crabtree and Cooper are being bottled up, then a couple passes to the TE is okay. I would like to see Michael Thomas on TE's going forward though, with McDonald back in the lineup. Alonso got roasted a little too many times for my liking. That first pass from Carr was perfectly placed, I'm not sure Kiko could have defensed it, but he got out-ran on that play regardless. The seam defense is still a little frustrating, but at least the run defense is much improved, Lynch TD not withstanding.
I really dont know what you watch. Kiko alonso is bad. He is an absolute liability in pass coverage. He hasnt been good since he tore his ACL in buffalo his rookie year/right after that. He wasnt even good last year, and we stupidly gave him a new contract. He is consistently a step behind in coverage almost every time. Sunday wasnt some aberration, it is the kind of player he is.
I am hoping he can at least get some help with MacDonald back. But since Kiko moved to weakside he has played well. Also if we had some pressure, it would help any LB covering
McDonald is going to turbocharged our defense. You watch. Think we have a good defense now, it's going to get better
And it's easy to spot because these types of posters only come around when the Dolphins have lost a game or two. When they were on their 3 game win streak none of these clowns were anywhere to be found.
I was around then too. This team has been obviously fraudulent this entire year, and i said the same thing right after last year too. This team is beyond mediocre.
There you go again cheerleading and blowing things out of proportion. Kiko has been ok, but definitely not great this year and definitely not in pass coverage which is his biggest weakness. He is always lost and a step slow in coverage, gets consistently beat and is never in the right position. Except for that one int he got against San Diego last year he has been terrible in coverage since he got here. Kiko is generally a very undisciplined player, he plays balls to the wall but with no control and not much intelligence. In the run game also he overpersues takes bad angles or attacks the wrong holes too often. In my opinion we ask him to do too much. He is ok at weakside and he is a very good Blitzer. I think we should use him more in blitz packages and less in coverage.
Could you give some background? I don't know a thing on McDonald and haven't had a chance to research him. I hear he's great but that's all I know.
McDonald is a big hitter. He is great on run support, but not so great in coverage. He is basically very similar to Reshad Jones though not as good. However if you listen to the cheerleaders here on the forum they will tell you he is the greatest thing since sliced bread and will save the defense. He is better than Nate Allen though.
I am hoping the rest of the defense is watching Timmons on film days. No BS "big hits"/arm tackles. Timmons is a TEXTBOOK tackler. THAT is how you do it boys and girls! Works for most weapons too. Aim for center mass, stay on target and keep firing til they are on the ground. TACKLING! WHAT A CONCEPT! It's like this team thinks tackling is like turn signals, it's the right way to drive, but not for the cool kids.
Hey, similar to Reshad sounds awesome- he's everywhere on our defense (as usual) and looks twice as fast as anyone else on the field. Even if this new guy is half as good, it's going to make a very big difference.
my only worry is he hasn't practiced. And, have we heard of him activated and/or playing? Maybe today is the day
Gase alluded to him being ready to play. If I were Gase I'd wait until the last second to activate him so that it would come as a bit of surprise to the Panthers. Though I'm sure they'll game plan as if he were playing either way.
On that play alone you could see he is just not fast enough to cover Cook. But the LB's have been so much better than last year in general.
He's a good player and a hard hitter. We need more of that physical attitude and he may be a guy to bring that and make it contagious.
And once again you couldn't be more wrong. Kiko has been terrific in coverage the majority of this season. He's been one of the better Will's in the league the majority of the season. He is a little undersized, but he plays like a much bigger man. He's a sure tackler and he's actually in the right spot at the right time the majority of the time. You're either not talking about Kiko or you have no clue what you're watching.
people who actually watch the film for a living pretty much unanimously disagree with you, but going back to our conversations in the offseason about how bad Bushrod is and how terrible this offensive line was and your complete unwillingness to ever even think of the possibility that you're wrong, im just gonna drop it.
pressure is the key for all LB to cover, that's why there getting burned our pressure isn't really over the top. We need to use the Lb's and blitz I just don't get why we are the only team that refuses to blitz year after yr. its annoying
Says who? You? Really dan you are ridiculous with your blind cheerleading. Kiko has NOT been "terrific" in coverage. Pretty much every time they throw it his way it's a completed pass. He has I think only one pass defended all season long and has given up a ton of catches. He only had one game this season where he played great and that was week 5 against the titans. The rest of the games he has been bad or mediocre. PFF gives him an overall "poor" rating for the season which is the worst rating they could give him. Seriously stop being ridiculous Dan. It seems the only time you are willing to critisize a player is when the coaching staff doesnt like him as in the case of ajayi. It would seem like you are a paid dolphins troll since according to you the FO and coaches can do no wrong.
Nope. Example? Ok... "Defending the pass, Alonso was fantastic in coverage in this game, earning a coverage grade of 88.3 on 34 coverage snaps. He allowed just 18 yards on three receptions while also making three tackles resulting in an offensive failure in the passing game. Alonso also picked up a sack off of a blitz." https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-lb-kiko-alonso-turned-in-an-elite-performance-in-week-5 He's not the best coverage LB'er in the league, but most of the time he's been good to great.
Keep spouting your bull**** Dan. How much are the dolphins paying you to troll the forums? That quote you reference is from the pff assessment of his game against tennesee in week 5. I already told you that was the only game this season where he has played really good. ONE game. The rest of the games he has been bad or mediocre. You selectively used that quote from pff, but why don't you acknowledge that PFF gives him a poor grade for the season? Stop being ridiculous Dan, just stop it.
Me and every reputable analyst that has watched him play through the season. Including PFF who you like to quote when it suits your narrative but who have given Kiko an overall poor rating for his play this season.
He is inconsistent because he plays out of control and doesnt have much football IQ.He goes a 100mph alll the time but has no poise. He is like a homerun hitter who always tries to swing for the fences but also strikes out too much.
Overall PFF score of 43.9 this season which earns him a poor rating for the season. https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/kiko-alonso/7827
I think you may need to grade Kiko on a curve. Compared to last years Kiko or LB play in General from the Dolphins over the last four years or so...Kiko has been playing very well. I don't know about PFF or any of the # peeps. Former LB eyes, been watching and coaching football for 40+ years tells me he's playing good to above average ball for this team, this year, so far.
Yeah, the 3 people I mentioned in my OP have been good to great all season long. The haters can't/won't see it.
that same site that you are now quoting has him as the 9th worst LB in the league this year covering the pass and as below average against the run.

Are you clueless or blind...maybe both. Kiko is garbage! Hell this whole defense has proven to be garbage after these last 3 games. They have been exposed.
