Easy to look good on defense when the other team only has to score 10 or so to win. They can dumb down their offense some. Man Kiko was BAD last night. Several key missed tackles that would have ended drives.
Kiko was horrible. The entire defense sans Jones with a couple of plays and Suh taking on double teams was horrible. Although, I do believe Wake gets held on 9 out of 10 plays and the refs never call it.
lol..Took me off of ignore, huh? Kiko was bad last night. And he got burned last week by the Raiders. Offenses are out scheming Burke and Kiko has been asked to do a lot. I doubt there are any LB'er's in the league that could take on what he's been asked to do and be very successful. Hopefully Burke will learn from this. Also, Kiko is not garbage, like your posts, but he has been bad the last two weeks.
correct me if I am wrong, but does the weak side LB cover most of the time out of all the LB's? If so, we are in a world of trouble. How do you fix that?
Yeah, typically in a 4-3 the Will is the "coverage" backer. The best way to fix what we are seeing in this defense is to either get the refs to call holding on whomever is blocking Wake, call better blitzes, and/or get some semblance of a pass rush. It's true that Kiko has looked bad the past two weeks, however, it's not all on him. You can't expect any linebacker to hang with a speedy TE or WR for the entirety of a 5-8 second play especially when it's happening all game long. You could put Kuechly on this defense and he wouldn't look much better than Kiko.
kikos been bad for going on 3 years since he returned from his ACL injury after his rookie year. You're just seeing it now. Consistently one of the worst lb's in the league according to PFF.
I agree with the timeliness and no pass rush. But Kiko also is not tackling well and getting shook out of his shoes. Can they blitz Kiko and cheat and play a S to cover the underneath?
andre branch is also average at best and was given a stupid contract that was obviously bad at the time. he has never had anything other than a below average year accordign to PFF. we have a front office with a complete inability to assess talent, even the talent on their own roster.
No one besides Jones and Timmons tackled well last night. For some reason the Dolphins haven't tackled well since Zach retired. Kiko is a good Will. Like any player he has bad games. And these bad games are magnified because a lot of people around him are also playing bad. My creating this post has also caused microscopes to be focused on Kiko. Some of the trolls on here don't know a thing about football and every time I beat them over the head with facts and truth they get butthurt. So, when they perceive me as being wrong they pounce like fat kids on cake.
Philly knew what they were doing, gave us a couple crap players and the Dolphins jumped on that deal.
Just because Kiko makes plays 8 yards down the field when he tackles, doesn't make him good, makes him look like Wheels and Chowder.
you show a lack of fundamental football knowledge everytime you post and defend Kiko Alonso. He is terrible, especially as he is one of if not the worst coverage LB in all of football.
he makes a ton of tackles because he is consistently a step behind everyone he is supposed to cover and lets them catch the ball and get down field.
Guy always acts like he knows everything. Did it in the offseason when i argued Bushrod is by far the worst guard in the league unanimously and tried to act like i was a moron. Then always ****s on PFF for their flaws without realizing he has no ****ing clue what he's watching. Also **** on me when I said last year that we were not a playoff level team and got lucky to make it last year by never blowing anyone out and winning tons of close games against terrible teams. Turns out i was right on both counts.
unanimously coming from the guy who has the need to always talk about how much more he knows about football than others and how little football knowledge everyone else has.
I don't really see the problem as the players right now on defense. This is the same group of players for the most part that were dominating the first third of the season. What I see now is offenses have changed how they attack us and we haven' adjusted accordingly. This is on the defensive coordinator. He needs to come with a new scheme that will take away the underneath stuff
I think Alonso has some issues as a player that are being taken advantage of, but he's still a pretty good player. I'm suspicious there isn't some sort of issue with him physically, as last night he poor performance was in areas he was generally very good at. His strengths as a player are making his read and pulling the trigger and getting to the ball carrier quickly and efficiently, and last night he sucked at it. The Raiders ran a bunch of duo blocks(doubling both DTs off of the snap and trying to get a blocker to slide off vs. the LB), and then some read option plays and the Dolphins defended it with scrape exchanges(the DE plays the dive option and a second level defender plays the outside option). In both circumstances Kiko did a really bad job of getting to his guy.
That noise we just heard was the sound of a few heads simultaneously imploding. Great post and thanks!
he continues to be bad so why the hell do we leave him on an island it makes no damn sense, Oakland killed us with swing passes and mcaffrey did the same, keep blitzing jones its working F'n idiots
its kind of flattering when you get accused of not knowing anything about football but are right in the end isn't it? been saying for a couple years Miami was a luck of schedule team last yr, RT is a below avg qb, and Miami sucks I said 6-10 was our record this yr and got crucified because everyone seen this team in the playoffs. This team and this coaching staff is a joke. only thing going for us is besides the pats there's no one really running away with the AFC so there's a chance if we fire gase and his 8 man football playbook and let someone else call plays and maybe get this team going kinda of like Campbell did, I know we didn't win much with Campbell but I thought the team played crazy open with him.
Kiko's problem is he doesnt play well in space or when he has to think a lot and make a lot of reads. That's why he is bad in coverage and gets broken down by runners in space too easily. We need to use him more as a blitzer and less as a coverage lb. Blitzing is where he is actually pretty good. He doesn't have to think a lot and just goes after the QB.
Thinking is Kiko’s problem. His IQ is about as high as the OP’s. I agree that Kiko should just blitz on every down. Have Timmons line Kiko up and point him in the right direction.
For you to hurt my feelings that would imply that I care about your opinion....which I don’t. There are 4 people on this forum that I really can’t stand and you are one of them.
I don't think either of those two premises are true. Alonso is usually quite good in zone coverage, you don't want to put him in certain situations and match-ups in man coverage. That's true of most linebackers in the league though, even those who play nickel packages. I don't think outside of last night he's really had a whole lot of issues tracking people down in space either.
Kiko has never been good in coverage. The best he can do on most plays is to make the tackle after giving up the catch, but he rarely prevents or breaks up any passes, is always caught out of position or a step slow to affect the pass. He is currently rated as the 9th worst coverage linebacker in the league. So I don't know where you get this idea that he is usually "quite good", he is not. And as far as making tackles in space, he gets broken down quite easily in space. What McAfree did to him is not the first time backs have juked him out and left him in the dust, it has happened several times before. Again Kiki is good when he is given a clear and uncomplicated assignment such as attacking a gap or blitzing the QB. When he has to think too much or read stuff on the fly he usually gets lost and makes bad decisions.
D'Pate knows his stuff. There isn't anyone on this site that he couldn't give a lesson to in regards to football. And before anyone chimes in with a "we must be friends" comment; anyone who was here when the PoFo was active can tell you that he and I have had some really bad knock down drag outs. So bad in fact that we pretty much ignore(d) each other for years. Saying that, there is no one here that can explain and break down schemes, players, plays, etc better than him. Some are as good and maybe better in certain aspects, but overall he's in the upper echelon of football knowledge on this site. I'd recommend that you put down your bias for a minute and read what he has to say.
Go ahead and take a look at that thread. Kiko does that **** just about every week. He is terrible and has been for 3 years.
I can pull one to a dozen games from any player in the league and use it to "prove" that they suck. No, he hasn't been terrible for 3 years.
he;s been literally not just below average, but straight bad according to PFF for 3 years. The same PFF you used to try and prove a point before about this same player a few posts ago in this thread.
and heres the post in which you had no problem quoting PFF before you inevitably try to discredit it now.
