This team lacks head coaching experience. There may be 3 HC's that get fired that I feel could make good defensive coordinators: Marvin Lewis, Chuck Pagano and John Fox. Weren't Lewis and Pagano part of the great Ravens teams? Could offensive coordinators potentially be Hue Jackson, Bill O'Brien and Kirk Koetter?

Doubt O'Brien shakes loose - Watson looked incredible. That team has been decimated by injury this year.

I am not sure how Lewis and Fox would feel about being DC's again, but I wouldn't really try hard to replace Burke, he's fine. The effort on D is flagging, and talent is lacking, I can't pin that on him. Offensively, I wouldn't mind Gase bringing in a veteran to take some of the load off, assuming he is retained.

Huh? You don't think Burke is responsible for the defense sucking? How is he not? If you're the Chef and the customer gets food poisoning, it's your fault. If you're the captain of a ship and ignore maintaining it and it sinks, it's your fault. If you're the driver and you mow down a crosswalk full of nuns it's your fault. If you're the landscaper and you hit a car with the weed whacker its your fault. If you're a javelin thrower and you trip and throw the javelin through the tamborine players head it's your fault. If you're the zamboni driver and you drink too much bourbon and run over the goalie it's your fault.

So, how if the 11 starter millionaires go out there with the gameplan and allow us to get blown out for the umpteenth time is it not his fault? Is he not a defensive coordinator? Is he not paid to be a defensive coordinator? Then he must take the blame as the defensive coordinator who obviously CANNOT COORDINATE A FREAKING DEFENSE!!!!!!!

I think the HC job is too much for Gase to handle he succeeds only having one job just the offense, now being the HC he has media days and constant talking to the media has to worry about every other coach doing their jobs etc, maybe he would be best as an offensive coordinator like Mike Shula?

Right up till halftime our defense was fine. The problems on D are magnified by the utter lack of offense. We can't sustain drives or put points on the board and are constantly in terrible field position. None of these are things Burke can control.

Our schemes are usually fine, our players just lack some key talent in areas and are getting worn down by ****ty offense and no bye. Burke isn't a liability.

Let's examine closer, VJ gave us one of the worse D's in Dolphin history, then went to get a HC job with Denver, can't win a game to save his life now....Started off good, but that often happens with all new coaching, no tape to review.

But what unit was by far the worse on our D last year?...that's right it was the LB'ers, who coached that?.....that's right Burke, enough said, two coaches that did absolutely terrible last year are doing terrible this year, nooooooo

100% bad coaches getting great opportunities for no reason. VJ Gase Philbin and the list goes on the only good thing is we didn't have to endure VJ too long or as a HC

I live in Denver now, my wife is a big time Donkie supporter. I told her the same day VJ was hired, this town will run his one line excuses out the door. We gotta play tougher, we need to quit the turnovers, the cheerleaders need shorter skirts.......

    What?

Last year's Dolphins defense was depleted by injuries so badly that I was surprised they could field a team. Even with that being the case VJ turned that chicken **** of a defense into an average chicken salad. Calling last year's defense one of the worst in Dolphin's history is completely without merit or substance.

Denver has much bigger problems than VJ. There's a reason he was one of the hottest HC prospects in the league over the past few years. Will he turn out to be great? Maybe. Maybe not. Most 1st time HC's don't fare too well. However, he's definitely shown that he can coach.

Way to counter my points. If you can't refute anything I wrote then you really shouldn't reply.

And why are you talking about the Dolphins? I mean, you don't live in Miami how could you possibly know anything about them.

Lets slow it down for the all knowing football guy...There's not one thing in your post that is fact, just your opinion, now that is a fact.

Miami's D was ONE of the worse D's in the history of the Dolphins, led by VJ, I guess it makes you feel better to just blame players. The worse unit on this team was the LB'ers, led by Matt. Now Matt takes over and the D is just as bad. Maybe you should look at the blowouts, but you won't, probably blaming the planets or something stupid again...

Denver's had a great D under Wade, but look at this team now, 5-6 games straight losses...That is ALL on the HC, every bit of what's going on.

VJ has NEVER accomplished one thing to deserve a HC job, but you believe it so because ESPN tells you what to think, good sheep, follow along.

BTW, where did Wade go and how much better is that D now, do your HW then talk FACTS, not your idiotic opions.....

1st: Last season the Dolphins defense was ranked around 13th for the majority of the season. That's with numerous injuries on the defensive side of the ball. During the last few weeks of the season, after yet again more injuries on both sides of the ball, their defense allowed 30+ points in 3-4 straight games. They ended up ranked 18th. Which was just below average and nowhere near one of the worst in Dolphins history. You're blathering...

2nd: So when their defense is good it's because of their DC but when they are bad it's because of their HC? You're blathering...

3rd: He's never accomplished anything in order to get a HC position? Well, the best way I can prove you wrong is to inform you that he's done enough to become the HC of the Denver Broncos which makes him one of 32 out of about 7,000,000,000 people in the world that has accomplished enough to get there. You're blathering...

4th: I think Wade is a great defensive coach. However, when he was coaching Dallas he had a defense ranked 13, 20, 2, 31. You're blathering...

VJ also has absolutely nothing at QB. Siemian started ok enough but then.. you know. They're scouting this year's crop very hard according to WalterFootball.

Crappy QB's/offenses can make defenses feel pretty hopeless. I think that's happened to us in a couple games this year.

1: Most yards given up in the history of the Dolphins.

2: Yes good response, ignorant at best, the team as a whole has quit.

3: Once again, no facts just insulting opinions, once again showing why many here confront you.

4: Once again facts are not given, how was Rams D last year compared to this year, hide little puppet

With the Rams, Phillips is charged with improving a defense that ranked ninth in yardage last season but gave up 24.6 points per game.

The Rams spent more than a decade in a 4-3 defense, but Phillips has installed his trademark 3-4, which he used with devastating results en route to a Super Bowl title with the Denver Broncos in the 2015 season. The attacking scheme is designed to put the secondary in position to make plays.

Players hesitant to make the transition felt at ease after reviewing film of Phillips' Denver defense.

Brockers, once fearful he wasn't suited to play in a 3-4, shed his doubt after Phillips' explanation that he still wanted the lineman to get into the backfield and wreak havoc.

    "I'm loving it," Brockers says.

Phillips has implemented his defense without three-time Pro Bowl lineman Aaron Donald, who did not report to training camp because of a contract dispute.

The Rams signed linebacker Connor Barwin and cornerback Kayvon Webster to fit the system. Barwin played for Phillips in Houston, and Webster in Denver.

As part of the transition, Robert Quinn moved from end to outside linebacker, and Lamarcus Joyner from cornerback to safety.

"They're learning quickly," Phillips says. "We still got a lot of work to do. We've still got to get some things done, but I'm pleased with where we are right now."

While Phillips is quick to enliven a room, players say he's not so lighthearted when it comes to perfecting their craft. A mistake is OK, but ones made repeatedly are not tolerated.

The players are enjoying Phillips' mix of accountability and humor.

"He wants his time on the field or in the classroom to be perfect," Quinn says. "That's why it's so fun to come to work, because you get a little of both worlds with him."

You discount VJ's coaching here because of poor yardage, not looking at the PPG. Then you tout Wade's improvement with the Rams, who, last year, were ranked in the top-10 in (least amount of) yardage allowed, but were ranked 23rd (lower than the Dolphins last year) in PPG last year.

Good stuff! Yardage allowed doesn't lose games, points allowed does. Is there a correlation? Probably. But you should be looking at points allowed if you're comparing defenses. It is literally the defining stat.

1: So? Not close to worst Dolphins defense in history.

2: I have no idea what you're talking about.

3: What facts of mine are you not agreeing with? The part that he's one of 32 HC in the NFL or that there are around 7,000,000,000 people in the world? If by "many" people you mean 3-4 out of a few hundred posters I don't think you know the definition of many.

4: No facts given? Are you talking about yourself? I clearly stated the defensive rankings when Wade coached Dallas.

You're right, PPG is the total, but it shows that VJ had a terrible game plan in place to prevent teams from moving up and down the field.

Doesn't it make you wonder why yardage was the highest in the history of the Dolphins last year?

Also, with a new coaching staff at Denver VJ should have done much better, but way to plain, his game plans were figured out within weeks. How many games have they lost in a row, point made. One liners don't getter done in the NFL

The Pats have the worst defense in the league in regards to YPG allowed. However, they are ranked 14th in PPG allowed.

No, it doesn't. We had a porous run defense last year. We started off great this year, but we're sinking back into bad habits again. I'm not so much concerned with yardage any more. I would rather see points prevented and turnovers. We were 18th in PA last year (not great, but far from "worst Dolphins defense of all time") and 12th in turnovers. I know watching the yardage pile up while watching a game is frustrating, but in the end, your frustration means nothing if we prevent the other team from scoring more points than we do.
