I don't think it is healthy to keep talking about the same problems Miami has. They won't go away this season. The shortcomings everywhere were established back in camp. The salaries given to players that are under-performing are immovable. So are you giving up watching? Are you looking for player development? Are you holding out hope for a run? Does anyone think Miami can honestly turn this around?

I will say this, if this continues, I would like to see what Miami has with Fales or Doughty in the last few weeks. Backup qb will be imperative to review in 2018 also

I think Miami is a long ways away. We still have doubts about QB, our Ol is still garabage after wasting a ton of resources in them, Cam Wake isn’t getting younger and we may not be able to afford Landry.

We’ve been pretty much one of the worst 5-10 teams over the last couple decades and I don’t think we’re any better off. Not giving up on being a fan. I pretty much expect them to be a 5-9 win team every year until they prove me wrong.

Good thing the NFL is not pay per view because no way would i watch this crap. I'm in to deep now to follow any other team and losing more intrest in the NFL every year..It makes me enjoy college football more and more. At least the Hurricanes are finally getting it right..They show you what a new coach and ways to motivate players can and should do... Don't worry Dolfanz we'll get em next Year! Oh god i'm so sick of saying that.

You know my take. I'll watch every game I can until I die. But, it's now with a heavy dose of skepticism that we'll win any game. Also, there is the specter of winning being damaging to our draft pick if we're just going to win onesy twosey the rest of the year. Either start winning this weekend and go on an epic run or wrap her up to make next year even better. I don't want to ever see us lose but I don't think anything good will come from a 7-9 year with us drafting fifteen - twenty. I'd like to see us make a move to jump up and snatch Josh Rosen from UCLA which would require us to move up to #2.

only time i stand is to get another beer during a blowout, good thing college basketaball is starting and football is coming down to the wire so something not so depressing is on.

I agree there's nothing this team can do besides absolutely clean house and literally cut everyone eat the contracts next year and start over, atleast if we know we wont win nothing will be a surprise but this off season had so much promise, but I see us losing landry easily and I would rather just implode everything and start over, rather than sit here and coddle RT for another yr or two for him to be who I know he is, id rather just go get someone else, if not a FA then implode everything and get picks and go hard in the paint in the first 3 rounds.

In the past if I had to work on a Sunday I would try to get off or get someone to work for me. Not anymore.

Josh Rosen is a bust man, he has a difficult time with defenses and a lot of his "nfl" throws are shaky, he literally reminds me of cutler, he can make throws in college but I don't see the transfer to the nfl. I have ucla season tickets and I believe Rosen and Darnell at USC are both busts in the making. The only qbs I think can make it are wash st qb and baker Mayfield. but I have been wrong many times in my life. But they both look like typical pac 12 qbs that get hype and wash out 3 years in. name 1 ucla starter or usc starter? Palmer from usc and hundley based off Rodgers injury, none of them pan out its all hype but they never live up to it IE sanchez, Kessler, barkley david booty leinart all busts im just saying.

I defer to the learned eye that has watched him. I've only seen highlights. So I guess we go for Mayfield. Totally down on a move that big. We need to swing at the fences this year and snag that perennial pro bowl qb.

only thing about baker is he is a little small, but the kid has heart he can make every throw and he has gotten 20 times better form last year on ready defenses (not hard in NCAA) I think he is a Stafford or Bradford type caliper player but def will have a good to great nfl career, but like I said before I have been wrong many times before in my life lol

I don't think it's where anyone stands on being a Dolphins fan- either you love the team or you don't. And if you love the team, then you're going to stand behind them no matter what. I am a Dolphins fan....there's nothing else to say on that matter.

I won't be watching any more games for the rest of the season. I can't watch a team that can barely tell right from left. When Tannehill went down, I knew it would be a rough ride but not this bad. Unfortunately, we have to look to the next off season for reinforcements. I hope FO dedicates a ton of time/resources to fixing the OL and finding a good QB prospect to put behind Tannehill.

No extra effort to watch games live the rest of the season.

I'm good with keeping Tanny, trading down to get more picks, and focus on the OL for 2018. Gase gets one more year even if we lose out, I want to see his offense with Tanny and a decent OL.

The defense fix comes in 2019. Losing 31-34 is more watchable then 0-20.

Me too. Give Doughty some snaps if he is your plan for backup next year. Nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving him some experience. To not do this is a grave injustice to the Dolphins.

no matter what? Does that mean you are OK with them sucking? You are ok with them going 0-16? You are standing behind them making horrible hires?

Even if you know something is horrible you will cheer the move?

trying to understand what standing behind a team means.

clearly anyone posting on here is a fan or they would not waste their time here.

I will watch games when possible, but I don't spend money to get TV packages or anything. I also will not hesitate to turn off the TV if we are sucking. Haven't bought or asked for merchandise in years.

If they aren't making me happy, I have no need to support. If that makes me bandwagon, then I'm cool with it. I enjoy general football discussions, which is why even if I am not throwing everything I have behind them, I still like to discuss it. I just won't let a football team (or any sports team) suck down my enjoyment of life. Ill shamelessly enjoy winning, and pass on the **** inbetween.

As for what we do? QB and OL are musts. Would prefer to hit OL in free agency. Sign some high-tier vets (especially a LT if available) instead of drafting or bottom tier players. That seems to be the quickest and best way to turn around a bad OL. It's happened for Philly, Rams, Chiefs, etc.

QB, I want us to draft one in the first round. I don't care what names people throw out at this point. Let the college season go, see what shakes in the offseason. But the big names that would interest would be Rosen, Darnold, Allen, Jackson and Mayfield. Though ... Mayfield getting run down and tackled by a hefty cop ... :glare: I would NOT trust Tanny's knee, but would not be opposed to keeping him a year, or letting him go in favor of a rook. Regardless, get a better OL in front.

CLEARLY? I don't know about that...some people just love to complain and there's a lot to *****/moan about this year.

I think the difference you're asking about, however, is that I watched every single game the season we went 1-15...I took the ride with my team and stayed bummed out for most of those four months. But come December, I was right back on the totem pole thinking about the draft, the next season and all the possibilities. And the caveat, even though we were freaking horrible that season, was the great Cleo Lemon hitting a streaking Camarillo for an overtime TD against Baltimore. Our team was terrible but in that moment, I was out of my chair shouting and cheering. I saw all 16 painful games that season.

That's what is means to be a Dolphins fan...to take the good and the bad while still rooting for your franchise.

As far as the "horrible things" that happened this season, I haven't seen them. Have there been bad play calls, missed blocks, dropped passes, crappy throws, lousy tackles, dropped interceptions, etc, etc, etc? Sure- that's happened on EVERY NFL TEAM. But you won't see me coming here after a tough loss and posting to fire the entire organization like some do, or continually bashing anyone who has a glimmer of hope for the season.

And the "horrible hires"? Who were they? Oh yeah, folks like Tunsil are "horrible" because they've missed a few blocks in their first year at LT. Gase is horrible because he only has one winning season and one playoff appearance in the year and a half he's been here. Tannenbaum is horrible because...well, I'll let someone else fill in the blanks...I'm not that creative. I'd love to see is someone bashing Tannenbaum to tell me what he did in the Dolphins organization last week. Their likely answer- "Uh, football stuff. And he sucks at it!" People have no clue yet they ramble on and on like they're professional football personnel and management experts.

I’m a fan but pretty apathetic. I watch 4-8 games a year depending on my schedule and how well they’re doing. Considered driving down to see them in KC this year but don’t think I’ll bother for a draft pick game.

I think we’ve got Chip Kelly 2.0 and Ross will hold onto him longer than Philbin because he actually had a winning season. Plus Tannehill’s injury will buy him time.

Gase and Kelly each went 10-6 their first seasons with desperate franchises. Then both got big heads and thought it’d be a great idea to get rid of their playmakers.

Plus I hate the drama with the whole NFL season, the injuries and suspensions to my fantasy team. This is the worst NFL season I’ve ever endured. Thank God The U is doing well.

the tendencies are there for sure based on your conclusion. I guess after the season, it will depend on how much he willing to change, because more of the same would result in insanity. I still think we need a rookie qb, and vets at oc and dc. I also think Miami needs to dump salary and rebuild their trenches. There needs to change. If Gase can keep his job, and convince that just having RT back is good enough, then this FO is clueless. It is also time to give up on Pouncey.

I am enjoying watching the Dolphins franchise develop under coach Gase, recognizing that there will be some ups and downs until a consistently competitive team is on the field.

Last year, Gases' first draft, was desperately filling holes on a team that was fundamentally flawed and according to the posters on this forum, had been basically flawed for over a decade. I think most of the posters here recognized this. During the first year the Dolphins began to develop a next man up attitude and ended up playing better than anyone dreamed. They had a great year, even though there where still a lot of weak areas that need better players.

I feel this year we had a structured and successful draft. We addressed a limited defense and added a little to the offensive line. I stated in another post that this year seemed to be a perfect storm with some weird personnel problems, unanticipated early injuries to key players and a hurricane that lead to a disrupted schedule. It was like the sinking of the ship in the song, the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Even with all the turmoil we have gone through this year, there has been an improvement in one aspect of our defensive run blocking (up the center) and an improved amount of time from the offensive line for the QB to pass. There does not seem to be the edgy next man up attitude that made us competitive last year. This may be due to some players riding on their laurels from last year coupled to too much of a potential degradation of performance if we used our backups.

It seems many of our players can't or won't bother to learn the playbook. It may be that many of our pre-Gase players are limited in their ability to understand the intellectual portion of this game or possibly it's due to some players getting better contracts, then losing the drive to play harder. It happens a lot in the NFL. To put this year in perspective, assume RT started this year at the level he was at last year just before his injury. Wouldn't we be having a better year? I think so!

In either case this next draft will take more steps to improve the offensive line and the defensive backfield (a target rich environment for improvement). I believe we will start next year with more high character, football smart grinders for players, as opposed to players who are just characters, along with more play and better performance from some of our draftees from last year. Add some more improvements thru this draft and free agency, along with a deeper playbook and we will be a better version of the team that I expected to see this year.

At the end of next year we will have a better idea of where this team is really going since it will have had 2 of its 3 previous drafts used for picking the kind of players coach Gase wants.

I hate to say this, but for the first time in my life as a Dolphin fan, for the first time I feel done. I didn't watch any of the Tampa game and I probably won't watch another snap this entire season. I just can't get stomach watching this team, I just don't have the energy for it anymore. Every year, year after year after year it is the same thing over and over again. We have a season where it looks like there is some light at the end of the tunnel and that the Dolphins are turned around, only to find out that light was the headlights of an 18 wheeler. I don't want to be a downer, I just hope free agency and the draft will bring me back, but I don't know.

I’ll continue to watch every game. I support them during the good times, and I support them during the bad times. You can’t pick and choose when you support a team, or at least I don’t believe that is how you should be as a fan. I appreciate everyone is different but my support doesn’t change with the win-loss column or the quality of football being played.

So what about the rest of this season...

Do I think we’ll make a run? Doubtful. At 4-6 we aren’t out of the race. If we beat the Patriots and results go our way (Cowboys beat Chargers, they fall to 4-7; Browns beat Bengals, they fall to 4-7; Chiefs beat Bills, they fall to 5-6; Panthers beat Jets, they fall to 4-7; Broncos beat Raiders, their records are 4-7; Texans beat Ravens, their records are 5-6) then things are very open. We’ll sit in a three way tie at 5-6 with the Bills and Ravens. Following week if we beat the Broncos, Ravens lose to the Lions, Bills fall to the Patriots - that will see us in the final wild card spot with a 6-6 record. Now of course that’s possibly bordering on drinking the kool aid, but it is possible that we can still get into the post season if we go on a (unlikely) run and results go our way. With that said, I doubt we do go on a run.

Player development? I’d say this is a priority. We need to give our young players the opportunities to develop, but at the same allow the veterans to show that they can still play a role on this team next season. If we lose a few games from here I wouldn’t be against putting Fales or Doughty into the lineup but I’m not convinced either guy have a future as a starting quarterback in this league, and we also have to be careful putting them in because that could hurt the production and development of other offensive talent (eg Williams and Drake in the running game; Landry, Parker, Stills, Carroo and co in the passing game).

For me, we are bordering on a lost season, but if the young players develop we can at least get some positives from it.

I used to think sometimes how we were just 2 or 3 years away from being a contender and we never got closer. Something would always happen to keep us just so close to being competitive or a contender. But then I realized that not so competitive teams are always about 3 years away because that is how long it takes to rebuild when you have the right FO and coaches. A few years ago for a prediction thread on another site I predicted 7 wins, because our average since Marino or Shula left was about 7.2 wins, or something like that. I did it as a joke, because I can't predict well at all, but it really has clarified things for me. Every year I expect us to win about 7 games. There will be the odd hiccup where we go 1-15 (thanks Cam), or limp into the playoffs like we did last year or the Wildcat year, only to be shown that we really were a fluke and do not belong in the playoffs. But those years are exceptions and are not to be expected. The league average is 8 wins for all teams if you average ties as half wins and we, being a little less than average will generally win a little less than half of our games. If you keep that mindset you won't be disappointed, it just doesn't go over well with other fans who want all of us to see that Ryan Tannehill is Dan Marino, Gase is going to get us past the cheats or whatever the new excitement is all about. I don't expect those things to happen, just wait and see and hope, regardless of the odd flash of greatness or futility that come along now and then.

I used to enjoy talking every little detail over with other fans too, but now I don't really look forward to that part of it so much, for various reasons. I do still watch all of the games, but the past couple of years I have started falling asleep during some of them, which is interesting, since I rarely nap. I no longer spend money on the Dolphins for reasons I won't get into specifically, but that self-imposed moratorium will change as the roster changes, probably fairly soon. No it has nothing to do with the anthem, although I think that whole thing is unfortunate and hope your country works it all out someday soon. Not that I will rush out right then to get another jersey when my key problem guys leave. I have a bunch that I still cherish from the old days.

So I guess I have spent a lot of years focusing on player development because we were always 3 years away, but now I realize that even that has become fruitless. What is the point of players developing when they are most likely going to develop into a roster full of guys that gets you to about 7 wins a year? Last year it hit me. I will just watch and hope to see some players develop into guys that make some entertaining plays. Entertainment is my key word now. I no longer look at how this team will ever become a contender. It will of course at some point and maybe even for a run of 10 years or more once again, but there is no reason to ever think that is going to happen soon. If it does great, if not...entertainment. Fins Up if you read this far.

I was a 49ers season ticket holder most of my life (until that team departed SF). Next I became a Raiders season ticket holder (until that team announced a move to Las Vegas).
Last Spring, when Miami owner Ross was the lone "no vote" (for the Raiders move), I decided to become a Dolphins fan. Sadly, my plan to get Direct TV fell through (tech said he could not install a dish ) so I have not seen much Dolphins play this season.

I'm working hard to separate myself from the team emotionally. I'll be a dolphins fan for life, but I find I enjoy football much better when watch other teams and have no emotional ties and can just enjoy watching and admiring the athletic performance of teams and individuals. I'd call myself an aspiring bandwagon dolphins fan.

I pay $200 per year for NFL Sunday Ticket, streamed over the net, without paying for any Directv base package because of precisely the problem you have: you can’t install a satellite dish where I live.

You should call Directv up and ask about it or check eligibility here: https://nflst.directv.com/
