And here is where we get into what is wrong with DeVante Parker: The common belief both within the Dolphins organization and around the league is that Parker, who missed three games with an ankle injury, simply doesn’t play well when he’s not fully healthy. And as most NFL players are rarely fully healthy because professional football is violent, it stands to reason one of two things has to happen: Parker either has to toughen up and learn to play well through the pain. Or ... Parker has to hope he’s never injured. It’s hard to expect the latter. But there’s no doubt Parker can do damage when his body is 100 percent and he’s feeling good and fresh — like when he was in training camp and early in the season. “I thought he looked like a guy who wanted to be great,” Christensen said. This from the miami hearld.
no one plays well at pain, the problem is he is fragile. He is an injury prone bust. A bust like Charles Harris and Tunsil We get nothing from our first rounds picks. Add Dion Jordan
Like the article says.Every player is hurt during the season but parker is soft and can't play well thru it.He will be gone in 2018. And yes another 1st Rd bust
Dirty, he's not injury prone. He's just soft and like pumpdogs wrote, can't play with the typical boo-boo's that ALL WR's play with. I'm sick of waiting for him to show up. He's too busy crying over his ex gf, or so it seems, and can't be bothered to put it all out there on the field. I'm actually glad that he's showing what a puss he is before he was signed to a long term (and expensive) contract. It's hard to say just dump him because he's most definitely talented, but unless he has some sort of miraculous epiphany over the next 6 games they need to cut him loose. Now, he'll probably get cut/traded and turn into the next Julio Jones someplace else...
Landry at this point isn't going to sign back with Miami even if he can get 5 mill more, hes as good as gone from this SH!T SHOW
He's not a bust by any means...he's just not the immediate stud WR1 we thought he was. The worst thing we can do is send this guy packing without compensation. The Fins are definitely still in "wait and see" mode since he practices well and has all the tools.
I don't think Parker's play should have any effect on how we view Landry. To be sure, Parker has been a disappointment, but he is not a bust at this point (and to insinuate Harris and Tunsil are busts is absurd). However, I would really like to see if we can get Parker going with a different QB than we have had so far, and yes that includes Tannehill. It does really make you question the decision to draft injured players high. I get mid rounds where their potential talent outweighs injury concerns, but for a top flight pick? Healthy please.
I'd love to re-sign Landry, but if the rumors of him wanting top 5 money are true I don't see him staying around.
Trade Parker for whatever pick you can get for him. Resign Landry. Draft the best Guard we can get our grubby little mitts on.
I wouldn't falling love w the rumors. Kenny Stills was also supposed to get $60M guaranteed. When everyone wanted Juice traded or cut next year, I was vocal about letting things play out. I knew deep in my heart Parker and Carroo would not be consistent.
He has another year. He would be 0 dead cap if he is cut after next year. He occupies a roster spot for free next year (same cost if you keep him or cut him), 3.4 million. Last year of the rookie contract is when quite a few players grow up and get serious if it is ever going to happen. Makes no sense to cut. Of course I would rule nothing out with the Dolphins and I mean that.
Some of you guys just kill me with the over top reactions to everything. Julio Jones is banged up every season and in 7 years has played in exactly 1 full season. He plays in about 13 or 14 regular season games. Is he soft too? And Parker's numbers would look a lot better if Tannehill hadn't went down in camp and Cutler or Moore could hit him downfield without requiring a circus catch or skyhook. This whole season is a wash without a starting quality QB.
You're confusing Armando's speculation with what Clyde actually said, which was: “I thought he looked like a guy who wanted to be great, there’s nothing worse than being a receiver and having some nagging injury that you just don’t feel great,” Christensen said. “I haven’t changed my opinion of a guy who can be a really, really fine player, and he is still doing some things really well. … but I think sometimes with those guys who are speed guys and outside guys, that you get a nagging thing and even if it’s little, you just don’t feel 100 percent. I’d say that that’s the reason.” No one is disputing that Parker needs to toughen up, but people keep comparing him to other players, and they seem oblivious to the the fact that those other players miss just as many games and also stay just as dinged up. The difference here is the QBs, and that Parker was involved in plays resulting in 2 INTs against the Bucs. Next season, with a better QB, and he'll look far better.
Yes well, they are both injury prone, the difference is Julio is significantly tougher and more talented than Parker, so when he does play even if he is not 100% he is still an impact player, not so with Parker. Julio is bigger and faster than Parker. If Parker is 100% he is an above average receiver, if Julio is 100% he is an all pro receiver, if Parker is not 100% he turns into a below average receiver, if Julio is not 100% he is still an above average reciever. See the difference?
No one is going to mistake Parker for Jones, but people are calling Parker a bust due to the injuries and lack of production this season. And one has Matt Ryan throwing to him. The other has Mutt and Jeff throwing to him. See the difference?
This. I would really like to see a better QB throwing to him. I mean, nobody on offense is looking good. The thing that I keep coming to, and I think the real question we need to ask ... what do we need more right now? Landry, or a top Guard (or T to bump Tunsil inside)? People love players like Landry because they are "tough" and play with "spirit" but what really do they bring in terms of W/L? I'm just not sure he's worth the money, especially if it means missing out on top flight OL from the FA class. I am DONE with drafting them for now.
tunsil is a pure tackle Imo...doesn't make sense to tie the skillset to guard..he's really good when he wants to be..changing positions will not improve his energy.
He has the physical skills to play either guard or tackle at an elite level, the problem is his mental discipline and technique. LT is more mentally demanding than guard since you are facing elite pass rushers on almost every snap of every game you have to be on point with your technique and focus every snap. That is why he performed better at guard during his rookie year than he is at tackle this year. Guard is not as mentally demanding. I would give him another year to see if he can improve his technique and mental discipline then if not move him back to guard.
Tunsil is fine, give him a year to scout out the ends in this league... he's not moving back to guard..least of our problems right now.
actually this is one of the biggest issues on the line. We don't have decent LT. How many playoff teams have below average LT's?
Actually, you may want to revisit your thoughts on the tackles. They've been good and both these guys have shut down some premier talent this season starting with Ingram and Bosa. Cameron Jordan, Vic Beasley, Suggs, Jets didn't bother attacking either James or Tunsil, instead going after the weak links at Center and RG. IMO, the complaints should be about the real problems on the OL - Pouncey and Bushrod, or the pre-snap penalties, but to say that Tunsil isn't decent as you just did, is another in a long line of ridiculous statements you've made. Notice the time stamp on the PFF tweet here: MIA Dolphins Retweeted Pro Football Focus 4 hours ago #Dolphins Laremy Tunsil was one of 7 tackles who did not allow a pressure in Week 11 #FinsUp That's decent, right? lol... And here's some more accolades for James and Tunsil. You don't have to agree with PFF scores, but at least recognize that they are grading them all on the same scale. PFF MIA Dolphins #Dolphins placed Ja’Wuan James on IR; he was the 10th highest-graded tackle in 2017 at 80.0 #FinsUp
Julio has played through some sort of injury his entire career. I'd say he plays pretty well. Tunsil and Harris are not busts. That's way too early.
A lot actually. Steelers won a SB and went to another with a crap LT. The Giants beat 18-1 Patriots with a LT who had NEVER started LT before that year, David Diehl. And he didn't play well at first.
You're welcome to that opinion, but again, you have to look at who their QBs are. Parker has had Cutler killing him with poor accuracy all year. Those guys also get a pass on their drops and erratic play that Fins fans never want to give their guys.
I have seen more drops and bad route running being the reason for Parker not performing than bad passes by Cutler.
When you are considered elite at your position, you get some levity on drops. Parker isn't considered elite. He's not even considered anything at this point but wasted potential.
Im perplexed on how to use him. use him on slants and he gets hurt. use him deep, we don't have time to throw.
I put the ball up and it was probably a little short,” Moore said. But not terribly short. Not if Parker goes after it. Maybe he catches it. At the very least he breaks up the pass to live for another down or even a field-goal attempt. Instead, as Gilmore said, “I got an easy one.” An easy interception, he meant. And a game-changing one. “Got to attack the ball,” Parker said. So why didn’t he? “I don’t know,” he said. Wow really?3rd year in the league!
