Of course he's pissed off. He was pissed off in a game we won this year because he didn't get enough carries.

But nah... his attitude isn't a problem apparently. It's the coaches ego, or something else, right?

Coach in Philly comes out today though and of course, brushes it off... No, no.. he's fine. Talked to him this morning. He's fine. Sounds alot like what had happened here last year.

Ajayi is a playmaker, he wants the ball, that's completely understandable. However, the guy seems to overlook the big picture. He's playing on a team that has a decent chance at a Super Bowl run. Maybe....just maybe they are saving him for bigger games against bigger competition, as opposed to risking an injury against the Bears who they trounced. He's undoubtedly going to be their feature back next season. Eagles are smart to use Blount as much as they do.

I didn't see him say anything bad. He said he is doing what the coaches tell him and is just happy they are winning. I am sure in the back of his mind he wants more carries, but he didn't actually say that. He is a pro bowl running back, it is only natural that he would want the ball. But he didn't actually say that. I don't get why people get all upset by this, its onlu natural and it doesnt hurt the team at all to have players that are eager to make plays.

'seemed to be' that's how we evaluate things in this country now a days lol. I would be unhappy too if I was an elite RB and loved to play football. Gee, what a crazy man.

I see Gase fans want to throw him under the bus as fast as Gase himself did. And even if he was a 'problem' that is not how you deal with problem 'attitudes' if you're a coach worth your salt.

Until further notice, the Dolphins traded away a top-tier RB for chicken scraps, as they've been known to do with talent for quite awhile now.

This whole thing seems like a slow news day in Philly. He didn't say anything wrong, coach confirms he isn't doing anything wrong. Somebody felt like Jay doesn't have a right to "seem" upset. This is a sports journalist who is trying to use Jay's past to predict a pattern and get a jump on a story. He wants to be the guy that calls it first, and if it never happens nobody will remember his stupid comments in 2 months.

As soon as Jay took off the Dolphins uniform, he became just another player in the NFL to me, but there is literally no reason that I can see, that we as Dolphins fans should be hoping that Jay falls apart in Philly, the kid still ran with passion when he ran the ball for us. Not everything has to be black and white, hero and villain.

i’m rooting for Jay in Philly. At least one of our players would have gotten to taste real success. If i was landry i’d refuse any offer the phins give him and look for greener pastures.

after the chi game, if you remove his longest run from each game he's averaging 2.2 yards per carry. He's homerun or nothing. not something you can have from a starting running back. you need consistency. honestly with those numbers, i'm glad he's gone.

I don't think "taking them away" is the true story here. The real question is why are they giving a Pro Bowl back only six touches per game in the first place? Folks here didn't want to believe Gase's narrative or any of the talking heads around the league, so maybe they'll put some stock in Philly's coaching and evaluation staff.

Who knows though....maybe they're all bums too and the entire Philly organization should be fired as well.

That doesn't include the game against NE. Regression to the mean is occurring after NE. Have to wait for more games to see how things turn out.

Of course they aren't really a top 8 offense

But you don't have to wait to see how things turn out bc the offense dramatically improved after the trade. You'd be a fool to think that was just a coincidence

I've posted this in other threads, but there just happens to be a very high correlation between how the QB plays efficiency-wise and some of those volume stats like total passing yards or total yards. If you treat Cutler and Moore as a single QB, then the correlation between passer rating and total passing yards is 0.66 and to total yards it's 0.7 so far in 2017. That's HUGE, meaning that while the Ajayi trade definitely had an impact, it's still a bit early to proclaim Ajayi was the dominant reason for the changes we've seen. Wait till the season is over and we'll see what the correlations look like, but right now it's looking like those changes had more to do with how the QB played than anything else.

    So CAL
philly was going to have a problem whomever they gave the ball too, didn't blount have an issue in pitt and NE with his carries?

I think once playoffs starts these guys will get equal carries and whomever is succeeding they will go with, this really isn't an issue I see for philly. I bet they are bringing him around slowly so in the playoffs no one knows what there gonna do with ajayi. and if that's true that's super smart.

The qb play is better bc their Rb isn't getting them killed on every play.

Yup that's a valid hypothesis. If it's true, then we should still see a major difference pre-Ajayi vs. post-Ajayi at the end of the season. But if it's not the dominant reason we should see similar correlations between QB rating and total passing yards or total yards both pre-Ajayi vs. post-Ajayi. Point is, this is testable so we'll see.

I don't want to have this conversation again but you're still ignoring the most important stat variable- what your eyes tell you. I'm not guessing here that Ajayi was a terrible blocker....I watched the MLB run right past him over and over and over again while getting nothing more than a little love tap push. I'd wager that AT LEAST 30% of sacks in the first six games were on Ajayi and that's a very conservative guess.

It would come down to film study though to actually count how many times he deliberately ignored his blocking assignment and I'm just not going to do that for a non-Dolphin to prove a point that most people here already consider obvious. You might forget that I've written a detailed review of every game this year and in all but one game, it was a topic I harped on since it was a repeating issue.

I think for sacks I'd agree with you that there's a more direct relationship between the blocking you get or don't get from Ajayi and what shows up on the stat sheet, so there I'd be more open to letting film study refute a stat argument, but I didn't mention sacks.

For total passing yards and total yards, you can't directly observe the relative influences of different possible factors. For that the approach I'm suggesting for testing is the best I can think of given the available information.

I'll bet you $1,000 right now and give you 100 to 1 odds Ajayi has missed more than two blocks on the blitz all season. That's your thousand to my hundred thousand bucks.

You're half right on the other part though- Williams was not blocking well when he was in a very limited role....he's not a natural blocker at all. But once Ajayi was fired and he got promoted, he's been DOMINANT as a blocking back by completely laying people out. He just run blocks behind the line of scrimmage and it's awesome to watch. Drake is doing the same thing so it's obviously something they're coached to do and loving every minute of it.

Again- there's a proposed bet.....$1,000 and I'll give you 100 to 1 odds. You might want to re-watch game 2, 3 or 5 though before sending my wife and I on a weekend getaway in the Bahamas. He gave up multiple sacks in each of those contests.

Oh? Please, enlighten us. What should any coach worth his salt do? Bench him? Leave him home week 1? Attempt to discipline him, leading to shouting matches? Adjust your offense to run plays that he prefers, and that suit him in an attempt to hope he "gets it" and improves? Call him out essentially in a press conference when all else has failed to say his star players need to take it home and study to get their assignments right?

Because that's some of what we know was done by the coach, and guess what, the player didnt care, or get it. So what do you do? Just let him do whatever he wants? No, you can't do that. Especially when you believe you can be a better offense without him because you can get the ball into your RB's hands out of the backfield, something Ajayi couldnt do well. Just take a look at the statistical improvement without Ajayi above.

This is a player, who the league widely knows has an extremely short shelf life based on his knees. That's why he fell to where we drafted him, that's why he's traded for next to nothing.

Sometimes you just have to cut ties with a guy who's dragging you down, and not getting with the program. Clearly they tried things to get him in line, clearly it didn't work, and that's why he's gone. It's pretty simple really. What more would you rather we have done? They tried the tough way. They tried handling him with kid gloves when he had some success and catered the offense towards him. They tried keeping that again this year, but when the guy only likes to have a couple of plays called for him, and keeps missing his blocking assignments, what more do you do? I'd love to hear it.

Oh, come on man. Sure, he didn't say I hate this place. But don't be so damn naive. You know damn well the point he's making, saying what he's saying. That's textbook player speak for I'm not happy, ask the coaches. I'm just doing what I'm told. If he was being humble, satisfied and happy, he'd actually speak about it, not just continue to brush it off with that response the way he did. If you don't get the point he's making there, and want to write it off as ahh... he's just a playmaker and wants the ball... Then get your head out of the sand man. They won the game 31-3, and that's his attitude? That's Jay Ajayi in a nutshell, that's not a playmaker, that's a selfish player who couldn't care less about anything but his own statline. Similar to what he was doing here.

if you take away his longest run in each game that 9.7 goes to 2.2...... he's a home run or nothing. like i said earlier, vs chi, 1 run for 30 yards, ended the day with 26 yards rushing on 6 attempts.

we're arguing for nothing. Philly has depth at the rb position and will use his long runs to help them win a super bowl. I don't think Philly will sign him to a long term deal and for a 4th round pick, it was well worth it. Philly is smart enough as an organization, not to depend on Ajayi long-term

Instead of throwing out data, like throwing out the longest run or something like that, you could just take the median which is insensitive to such extremes. They don't report that of course, but if you calculate the median for Ajayi with the Dolphins and Ajayi with Philly it's in both cases exactly 3 right now.

    3 ypc?

You know I love the stats. You may be the only person on this forum that loves stats more than I do. lol

However, the Ajayi situation went beyond stats and the fact of the matter is, Ajayi's production wasn't worth his headache.
