NFL executive-turned-ESPN analyst highly critical of Dolphins

    “They keep spinning their wheels,”

“Going into the offseason every year, selling hope to their fans gets tiring. When you have the same team saying the same thing year after year, it gets tiring. It’s like, ‘Next!’

“[With the Dolphins], there is something going on with your player acquisition process that isn’t working. You can make all the excuses you want. It’s not working.”

“When your head coach is shipping guys out two years in a row [offensive linemen last year, Jay Ajayi this year] trying to get people who care and who really pay attention to details, when you are doing that year after year, that’s a problem.”

Agree 100% He is basically pointing the finger at tbaum and saying Ross should consider firing him. I agree with that assessment.

Well there's no question the problem goes all the way to the top. I mean.. just compare a well run organization like the Steelers to a poorly run organization like the Dolphins. Since the merger in 1970, the Steelers have had a whopping 3 different head coaches! Noll, Cowher and Tomlin, ALL Super Bowl winners!

The Dolphins hit a home run with Shula who stayed for 26 years, but even including that quarter century stability with Shula, the Dolphins have had 11 different head coaches since 1970. It's pretty clear where the blame across the last few decades lies. Problem is we fans can't do much about it except complain lol.

As far as the Barry Jackson quote goes, I think it's complete crap- every team hopes to have a great season and fans get excited...what kind of **** coach would you be saying in April your team is going to suck? You work with what you have and then make adjustments when superstars go down. Last year it was Jones and Pouncey, this year it was Tannehill. That's not selling false hope though- it's just football.

For instance, my daughter's high school won the state championships last year, then went 14-0 this season right up to the state championship game this afternoon. Our All-State QB dislocated his shoulder on the final play of the half with a beautiful TD throw- then we got blown out with a sophmore QB under center in the 2nd half. Did my daughter's coach also sell us all false hope after a near perfect season? Or did a devastating injury at the worst possible time steal their glory?

When you lose your QB1, it's easy to point at a lot of different problems on both sides of the ball. But the biggest problem is that you don't have your QB1 leading the team.

so something is wrong and we all know it but Ross is supposedly set on brining the trip back again next year. They are going to say ryan will fix it and when he doesn’t and we get the same results what will be the excuse?

We all knew tannenbaum wasn’t great he ran the jets into a ****hole and now he’s done it to Miami.

Ross isn’t serious about winning i’m my heart of hearts he wants a competitive team to fill the stands but not willing to let friends go.

I respect Riddick, and have said so on this forum for about three years now..his record has been good I believe over the past five years..

I think he would take this job in a heart beat..and he may even been lobbying for it in his own way.

It's been said that the three things you need to have successful football franchise is a great owner, coach and QB. Are we locked and loaded or what?

    It may help:
Try to imagine what it must be like to be a Browns fan. Wooo!

    .....the mind numbing despair.

Is there really much of a difference?
    No championships for decades? Check.
They have about 5 wins a year for the past 15 years, we have about 7 and both get you the same result. No reason to expect playoffs most years. If you get in, no reason to expect to win a playoff game. Check.
Circus issues off the field like Johnny Manziel, Chris Foerster or Bully Gate? Check.
Nothing to cheer for but your distant past accomplishments? Check.
Selling your fan base on false hope each year? Check. Well ,wait, do the Browns fake being on the cusp of greatness it like we do?

So I don't find it very hard to imagine what it must be like being a Browns fan.

You're really getting cynical in your old age, North. Maybe it was all those years of me making online bets with your car.

For NFL fans, the grass is always greener on the other side. The facts of the league, however states that we're going to have 1 winner and 31 losers every year. It would be nice if we were a regular in the playoffs but at the same time, those teams get just as bummed out as we do eventually. And given that we're stuck in the division of the one team that has the green light from the league to cheat and always get the benefit of the doubt, that muddies the waters even more.

If we were in the AFC South, for example, we would have been division champs and in the playoffs two of the past three years. Same record, same team and everything...chances are we would have actually won more games without playing NE twice and all those trips up north in the winter. Would that make us a better team though? It really all comes down to perspective.
