Greatest football game I have ever watched...by far. First time I have ever cried about sports. That play is the most excited I have ever been as a fan......hit my head on the ceiling jumping up and down

I was born in Maryland, so in my early years I was a fan of the Johnny Unitas led Colts. We moved to Miami in 1961 and I became a fan of the University of Miami but remained a Colts fan since there was no NFL team in South Florida at that time.

I was 15 in 1966 and a friend of mine at the time told me his father had received tickets to the first regular season game in Dolphin history and asked me if I wanted to go to the game. I was an NFL fan at the time and really considered the AFL nothing more than minor league football.

I went to the game not expecting to enjoy it because I was still a Colts fan at the time. The Dolphins were playing the Raiders that day and on the opening kickoff in Miami history, Joe Auer returned it for a TD. I slowly changed allegiance to the Dolphins from the Colts over the next few seasons and eventually became a 100% fan once Don Shula left the Colts and became the Miami Dolphins head coach.

I was fortunate enough to experience in person the great Dolphin years of the early 1970’s and every season of the Dan Marino era. Hopefully the younger members of this forum will one day get the thrill of seeing the Dolphins win another Super Bowl. No matter how mediocre they have been for nearly 20 years,I will always be able to fondly remember the best years of this organization.

I listened to this game in the backseat on our way to TX. I never watched the game until just a couple years ago when NFL network did one of their "Greatest Game" series on the game. I've seen a LOT of football games over the years and that was by far the best game, from a pure football POV, EVER. I didn't used to feel that way, it was a loss after all, but after seeing it, wow!

JW, you and I must have read the same articles in the same newspaper. I was 16 years old and had to listen on radio to Joe Auer's KO return. I share the same sentiments, but I also throw in the "Old Timer Codicil" - I'd like to see the 'Phins at least IN a Super Bowl before the Lord calls me home!

    Nice thread, thanks for starting.

My first memory is the same as yours, except I was nine, it wasn't my birthday, and I was watching on a little black&white TV (remember those?).

It's been all downhill from there, in a sense, but I've had a lot of fun being a fan.

I have a very vague memory of watching the Dolphins vs the 49ers. I was six at the time and all I remembering is them practicing.

The most solid memory is watching the Dolphins beat the Bears and deciding that I will become a Dolphin fan.

If you're talking about the 1985 (I think) game - that is one of the best Dolphins games in history!!!

Just had another flash back. The game vs the Jets with no announcers. I remember it being the first thing we ever saw as a family on our very first brand new color TV!

Though I technically became a Dolphin fan during the Super Bowl following the 84 season, I rarely watched games for a few years after that. I do have a clear memory of watching the Bears crush the Patriots in the 85 Super Bowl though.

Young ‘un here. My first Dolphins memory is from the 2000 season (I was 8 at the time), specifically, that MNF game against the Jets. Luckily, I didn’t see them blow that lead late in the game, but I just remember watching that game early on. Other than that, the earliest game I can recall is the 2002 game against the Chiefs, when they handed the Dolphins their first loss.

Luckily, this team prepared me for the heartbreak of cheering for them early on in life. I’m often envious of my dad as he has gotten to see the best seasons in Dolphins history, which were well before my time.

how about this....In the early 90's I think, not being ablate watch non-sell out games on TV, shaving to listen to Rick Weaver do play by play. Man, we have suffered a long time.

One of the most painful games in my time as a fan. I don't normally drink when I watch the Fins, but I was hanging out with a bunch of people that night who were, and with the big lead in the third quarter, I had more than my share. It went from a gleeful drunk to a depressed drunk by the end of the night. My then GF was so pissed at me that I became a wet blanket.
