That's an awesome article. That throw against San Diego where he gets drilled while dropping it on the receiver 55 yards downfield was amazing.

The problem with the conclusion of that article – which is that Tannehill is a “borderline top-10” quarterback – is that being borderline top-10 means being an average quarterback in the NFL, and that also means the team needs to be stacked with talent elsewhere, especially with regard to pass defense, to contend for a Super Bowl.

WADR, that is but one interpretation.

Another would be that he's only shown he's borderline Top 10 QB with pretty bad talent around him. I mean without him the team has put out an historically bad offense.

But the article is concluding that he is borderline top-10 by purporting to analyze him in isolation from all of the supposed surrounding weaknesses.

    That's not Ryan Tannehill.

Ryan Tannehill is 7 feet tall. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the Patriots with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse.

Yeah, it shows what he was doing with crap around him. I think the borderline part was in regards to him still developing.

It's amazing to me that people can't seem to understand how the crap around him and the crap coaches he had set his development back. Instead, people read an article like that and come away acting as if Tannehill is done developing. Crazy.

Sure. But when you read stuff on here, the negative stuff, you would not get the impression that people think he's still developing, nor would you get the impression that he's significantly improved since his rookie year.

Most here know I'm a huge proponent of coaching. It's the coaching staff and not the individual players that make or break a team and as much as I can't stand using them as a comparison, ask yourself this, and be HONEST...

If Tannehill were traded this very moment to New England and Tom Brady retired, would Tannehill flourish or fail?

Tannehill finally started getting the coaching he needed to develop and flourish under Gase that he didn't have under Philbin and I would submit anyone who disagrees, then you also submit that Brees was DONE and a horrible QB and should have faded ff into the sunset before he was traded to New Orleans.

He certainly wouldn’t fail, but the odds are very low that he would be is good as Tom Brady, for the simple reason that the odds are very low that any quarterback would be as good as Tom Brady.

Didn’t say nor imply he would be as good as Brady. I merely asked would he fail or flourish.

And as far as being as good as Brady is concerned, you did see the qb completion percentages I posted in the other thread comparing Tannehill and other qbs for last season didn’t you?

There's virtually no extreme Thill folks.

There's the people who thinks he's awful.
There's the people who are indifferent.
There's the people who think he's better than folks are giving him credit for.

    That's it.

Well, there's one or two people who jump between all those depending on the argument and how much crap they want to stir up.

Tannehill has plenty of FANATICS and that is to be expected, everyone WANTS to see him do well, it is the ultimate goal.

However, if someone has struggled with assigning him any blame in his rocky 5 year career? Then you become illogical in your evaluation.

He has had some poor surroundings, he has had his personal struggles to help. If you can’t see either of those sides? Then you are an extremist in my mind.

You're just wrong. Don't really know what else to say.

Arguing against outlandish criticisms that have virtually no merit, doesn't make one extreme. I've seen all those people criticize Thill for things, like leadership, leaving the pocket more, low release, not relying on certain targets too much, etc. at various points in his career, but the sheer amount of demonstrably false accusations over the years takes precedence just because there's so much of it. Not a single person you're talking about thinks Thill is perfect. They just think of the 11 starters on offense, he's the least of a problem.

It is not extreme to say a QB with that bad of an oline, no commitment to the run game and not being allowed to audible will not appear all world, it is extreme to think he should....or once again, find a QB that's done it.

I know, I know, you think that's stupid (for no other reason then I said it). You've said Rivers, but he's allowed to audible. Then you said it's stupid because we can't know who is or isn't allowed to audible....expect for Thill apparently I guess...and Brady....and Rodgers...and Wilson....and Brees...etc. on and on.

Here's an example of what is extreme....defending Wallace's demonstrably small catch radius and poor ability tracking the ball, proven by numerous people btw, admitting you'll only be swayed by an amount of information you know will never be provided and even then you're skeptical....all because he runs fast. That is extreme.

People who don't get it, don't get, that they don't get it.

Your last paragraph is a perfect example of your struggles around here. The fact you do not have the football aptitude to see that Ryan struggled throwing to a guy with world class speed, is a reason on why you are on the Alt Tanny list.

You just ripped a guy that has had a better professional career than Tannehill, because you don't have the ability to accept the fact that while yes, Wallace has always had a poor catch radius, the throws were almost never on target to him. So what do you do? How do you handle it? You blame someone else other than the guy behind center.

It isn't hard to go back and look at these attempts, I'll give you $19.99 and you can sign up for NFL game pass and see for yourself. But again, you have to understand what you are seeing and do it without your "extreme passion" blinding you.

You basically just proved my extremist theory to a tee. Thanks.

Saying throws were almost never on target to Wallace is extreme...and, further, you're taking an even more extreme position that a guy, who you admit had a very small catch radius, needed to have balls pinpoint accurate 40+ yards downfield. Further, your ignoring his poor route running in your extreme defense of Wallace. Lastly, you're ignoring Wallace's consistent struggles in multiple different timing offenses, instead, hanging your hat on his success playing sandlot style his first couple seasons.

    Na.

Let's help you out a little.

"Saying throws were almost never on target to Wallace is extreme"

    - Downfield throws to Mike Wallace were almost never on target is actually true. If you watch the tapes you can see this. Seriously. Just watch. Find me some deep passes that was complete that Wallace didn't have to make a big adjustment too.

"needed to have balls pinpoint accurate 40+ yards downfield. "

-IF this were the case and they needed pinpoint accuracy?? Then they would've had very few big play hookups.

"consistent struggles in multiple different timing offenses"

This means nothing to the discussion at hand. Mike is/was a specialty WR, many fans here just saw big money WR and assumed he was some 5 tool talent. He's not. His specialty is getting behind defenses, he did that in Miami and often. Is he great at tracking the ball in the air? Of course not (remember, specialty WR) but he did exactly what I thought he would while in a Dolphins uniform. Beat the defense.

This is extreme to you because you flat out don't want to hear it.

Makes you appreciate some of those little things that Tannehill does after seeing Cutler. The precision downfield, often during duress, is what stands out the most.

The article comes off as riding Tanny’s jock, but the proof is in the pudding. People have their right to dislike Tannehill. I get it. But seeing what was behind center this year versus the last year should open some eyes. He’s tough as nails, and I’ll be glad to see him come back next year.

I don't need to watch any tape. The deep against Carolina. The sideline catch he missed, cause he ran himself out of bounds, I forget against who. The constant need he had to make easy catches into circus catches, and the repeated use of his chest to make catches instead of his hands. He reminded me of Chambers in that respect.

So, you admit he has a small catch radius, and you admit he tracks the ball poorly, and you conclude that therefore he needed the Qb throw, in your estimation, more accurate passes...but I'M extreme fit saying that pinpoint accuracy was needed? Come on, man.

Yes there were a couple balls during Wallace's stint in Miami that were really off the mark. For argument, we'll say it was actually Tannehill's fault. Those happen. But Wallace was a hard guy to throw to, because you have to be crazy accurate to hit him.

I agree.. but IF Garoppolo turns out to be a consistent top 10 QB, then I'll be so happy SF is not having a QB debate because that means Belichick might have just traded away a future franchise QB for NE.

Brady's 40 already, and I know he's still going strong, but only a handful of QB's have started 6 or more games in a season post-40, with the record held by Vinny Testaverde at age 44. If statistics is of any help in predicting things, Brady won't be around for more than 4 years max and I'd LOVE to see NE become an average team without that guy.

I agree that Tannehill had issues with Wallace. Wallace had issues as well. You can't blame it all on Ryan, and you can't blame it all on Wallace. There are a ton of examples on Game Pass demonstrating Ryan's deep ball accuracy, and the stats back it up. He is one of the most accurate deep ball passers in the league. Whether he keeps that up post injury remains to be seen. Hopefully he will build on it with more opportunity under the new coaching? It sure looked that way before his injury.

Wallace was more of an outlier receiver for Ryan. And that could have just been a chemistry thing. Is it Wallace's speed (normally an asset) that Ryan couldn't seem to get in sync with? Was Wallace consistent in his routes? Not just in pattern, but speed? Either way, Ryan was showing he had deep ball accuracy before and after Wallace. It may be that he struggles with the speediest receivers. I think he's shown that he's grown leaps in that area with throws to Stills and even to Grant.
