DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -Phil Simms watched the Miami Dolphins' first preseason game and thought, "Wow, I can already see it." The way the players reacted to coaches, the way they conducted themselves - the former quarterback could make out the imprint of his old coach, Bill Parcells. Of course, Parcells isn't the coach of the Dolphins. His official title is executive vice president of football operations. Still, if you didn't know any better, you might think he was still coaching by the way Miami's players talk sometimes. "I was real excited to be a part of an organization that he's in, because he's turned programs around, he's won championships, he's been around the best," said offensive tackle Jake Long, the first pick in this year's draft, "and I'm just very excited to learn from him and play for him." A year after resigning as the Dallas Cowboys' coach, Parcells came out of retirement yet again to try and restore a once-proud franchise that lurched to 1-15 last season http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10942144
A really good read that gets you excited about the future. I like how they respect the guys in charge so much.
Good read. Sink or swim. For better or worse; this will in fact resemble any other Parcells reclamation/rebuild/whatever simply because he hired guys who's philosophy is in line with his own. One thing I like is that if Parcells does decide to leave after a couple of years, we can still continue in the same direction if Ireland and Sparano are still here.
Tuna's hiring has nothing to do with blind trust. I understand blind trust isn't good as our previous coach regime has proven that many times over.
I have resavations with Parcells and his new role. I will not back away from that, he has never done it. And I'm not a big Parcells fan. But I'm willing to give him a shot, heck with the way this team played last year I would have given GridIronKing34 a shot!
The difference that I have noticed is on the O-line ad D-line. You see guys like Roth and Kendall Langford really pressuring the QB. I remember how Parcells would use Lawrence Taylor and Carson to go after the QB......I don't know if we have LB's anywhere near as good as those two but we are bringing a lot of pressure from the DE's and LB's. I also think our running game is going to be looking nice, especially with Ricky running behind Jake Long. Hopefully Ronnie will be able to get back to his old self.
Touche! Of course in the early days of Wannstedt and Saban, good things seemed to be happening. No one expected us to be 11-5 that first year under Wanny. Anyway, football fans are optimists. New regime, new hope. I think there is something to it in this case because Parcells has been successful in a lot of places.
That was indeed a nice read. i'm pretty excited for our chances this year. Id say we definately made our team better in the offseason, we lost a bunch of games last year by 3 or less, so IMO we werent as bad as our record stated. That, combined with the upgrades on the team and staff, i think were definately in for a nice turnaround this year.
Good call, B27. Even if we only win a handful of games this year....next year I think this team will be outstanding.
That's a good article. Anyone who thinks Sparano is just a puppet nedds to read it. Yes, he's been groomed by Parcells, but he's no puppet. He's a good football coach.
I think Parcells wouldn't want a 'puppet' coach...I'd think he'd really dislike anyone (player or coach or staff) that didn't question him and his philosophy to keep him honest and to keep the system they have developed growing...At least that's what it seems...the bottom line tho, the one thing that will make this work is acquiring talent. That's the one variable that cannot be overlooked. As of right now, the talent they've gotten seems like it can and will develop into a team that wins, but we still have to see...we've all seen teams (like the Cards, for example) that seem to play well every preseason and then dissappear come the start of the season...
