I'll rewatch the game...I thought his arm looked okay. That could have been due to his escape mechanics in the pocket though; I read his scouting report for the draft and his pocket presence was listed as his major weakness (along with only being 6'2"). So he wasn't at all what I expected to see and his improvement really impressed me.

I agree that he was not horrific, especially being inserted in a difficult spot. Could he be a 3rd stringer? Sure. Is he better than Cutler, Tannehill or Moore? No. And it is really not even that much of a debate.

I'd been calling for him to get some reps for several games. I think there's something to work with there. He's not starter material at the moment. Remember Case Keenum wasn't starter material until this season. How'd that happen?

    So CAL
case keenums fundamentals are way way better. you could potentially maybe get him a backup job somewhere if someone works with him.

The fifth round has been good to us over the years. :wink2: If we can keep three qb's on the 53 next season, I'd keep Fales around. Not opposed to adding a qb in the draft (just not round 1).

id take Mayfield but we would need to make moves, if we stay at 11 I agree we should get some lb or something.

Now we're getting somewhere here. I think Fales showed enough for some consideration to replace Matt Moore, but to consider him as a QB1 at this point, that thought is just off base IMO, even to consider him as a stop-gap if we drafted a potential future QB1 early is a mistake IMO. There's not enough to see on him to make that decision, at least not for us as fans IMO, and I don't think he's done anything particularly well enough to be considered as anything more than a QB3, or backup.

If anything, to me, the guy who needs to be concerned for his future in Miami is Brandon Doughty. The one thing he has going for him though is they did chose to keep him on the PS over Fales, but the fact they looked to Fales in this scenario over Doughty who's sitting on the PS has to be a bit frustrating, or at least concerning for him.

Neither has shown much, neither has really had an opportunity either, but to consider either as a starter, isn't an option. Fales didn't make a fool of himself though that's all you can ask for from a guy in his position on Sunday. He looked better than I anticipated, but that's still not saying too much.

I don't care where you start this conversation, if your belief is that we should ditch Tannehill and roll with Fales because he looks better, then that conversation should end before it even starts.

That's basically what I was saying as well- anyone who expected him to throw for 400+ yards and 5 TD's has been enjoying legal cannabis a little too much lately. For a young QB in his first start, you're looking at them to handle pressure, make solid reads, throw crisp passes and don't turn the ball over. He did all of that- he passed the QB idiot test or whatever you want to call it.

What does that mean long term? Probably not a darn thing. But if he went out there and self-destructed, then it would definitely signal the end of his career in Miami. So I consider it a positive even though we lost.

Fales is what he is. Practice squad material and nothing more.

Neither is Doughty IIRC, so one of them is here next year, the other isn't the way I see it.

Ahhh I get it now, because his action isn't from the manual of the the perfect NFL QB throwing action, Fales is "garbage"? Has any one seen Jim Furyk hit a golf ball? Seems to be ok?

I mean if you want him to be a 3rd stringer then by any means no problem, he is nowhere near qb1.

there's always an acceptation to the rule Shawn Marion's jump shot, ichiro szuki batting stance and blah blah blah.

fales in the discussion to anything more then a practice squad 3rd stringer hes garbage, you can find a handful of players late rounds or undrafted with the same skill set or maybe a little less.

why the hell are we even discussing a qb3 anyways we have a hard time with the qb1 topic hahahah

the problem is it is not consistent. sometime is looks good and then other times it is not. You could see inaccuracy on many of his throws even ones completed.

Go to your local muni and you'll see tons of unorthodox golf swings, but there's a reason you don't see them on tour. A golf swing, just like proper shooting form in basketball or throwing a football, needs to be repeatable every time to maximize success. Furyk is an extreme example, and there's a reason why golf teachers aren't teaching his swing. Just the same, if your throwing motion is weird, it creates problems.
