I will use the weekend to rewatch, so you can have a firm understanding of my opinion on a game to game basis. Even though we both kind of know you seem to want to here my thoughts, just to try and pick them a part.

    But I'm good with that.

This is a message board that really isn't fact based to begin with, it is based on opinions and discussion of one's opinion, so i will embrace that.

So, watched the YouTube recap of the Browns have. First int, Tannehill slightly off target high and inside the receiver, defender makes a good play, really think the receiver should have broken it up, though. I fault Tannehill, though, if we have to assign blame. Then next drive throws a beautiful dart to Parker for a TD. The pick six, you're really blaming Tannehill?? Right tackle lets a guy right up into Tannehill so quick, then as he's throwing, not only does that defender hit him, but the center gets shoved back by another defender right into Tannehill, and Tannehill ends up falling backwards throwing off his back foot because he gets hit while throwing. Further, hard to say who he was throwing to, and it is very likely someone ran the wrong route, but it could have simply been off cause he was getting hit. No way Tannehill gets that blame. So, one pick his fault, but could easily have been broken up by the receiver, one pick because the line did what it always did, allow quick pressure from the side AND up the middle...but he threw for 300+ on the day, 3tds, 65% completion, and 8ypa..and you say he didn't play very well.

And then you want to call me an "extremist."

What-if game: With healthy Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins may have gone 10-6

    http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachp...-tannehill-miami-dolphins-may-have-gone-10-6/

So during the Dolphins end-of-season news conference, Adam Gase was asked the what-if question.

“I’m pretty sure you already know my answer to this,” he said. (He was pretty much right, but hey.)

“Hypothetical, it didn’t happen,” Gase said. “It is what it is. We just know we get him back next year, so we’ll have a full slate with spring, training camp and preseason. There was nothing we could do once he got injured. We made the adjustments we had to make to try to put together the season we were hoping to have.”

But could Tannehill have produced a repeat of 10-6, which would have put Miami in the playoffs? It’s possible. Take a look:

    • Bucs 30, Dolphins 20: Cutler threw three interceptions before suffering a concussion and getting booed by the home crowd. Moore came in went 17-of-28 for 282 yards and a touchdown to tie it at 20-20 in the fourth quarter. The defense then caved, allowing a 58-drive for a field goal and the winning points. But without the early 20-7 hole, this could have gone either way.

    • Bills 24, Dolphins 16: This was Bad Jay at his worst. He threw three interceptions. That has happened to Tannehill only once in the past 1 1/2 seasons played.

    • Chiefs 29, Dolphins 13: A bit of a longshot, given how hard it is to play at Arrowhead, especially when it’s cold. But keep in mind the Dolphins were within 20-13 at the half and couldn’t get anything done in the second half.

    • Bills 22, Dolphins 16: Fales did admirably, throwing for 265 yards with one TD, but it was his one interception in the final two minutes that sealed the sweep for the Bills.

    Week 5 Titans

Giving this one a firm D.

Honestly, I also was not a fan of the play calling in this one either. But Ryan was just playing kind of scared. One of the 2 big play's we had the whole game was a 1 yd pass to Damien Williams who makes some great moves and trots 58 yds, but Ryan throws a perfect deep pass to DeVante Parker for another 50 yard. Outside of those plays? We had 90 passing yards..yuck. His first INT was on him as he throws behind Devante Parker (with a clean pocket) His second INT, in my mind is on the play calling/OL, he got 3 seconds to throw but was hit simultaneously. But why the hell do we have 3 WR's bunched together in the same vicinity? Bad spacing. The one time Ryan likely should've taken a check down (It was 1st down)

    Week 6 Pitt

    B

Parker drops a perfect pass that would've been 7, questionable play calls lead to a FG. Next drive he throws a pass right at the Steeler DB who luckily drops it. Hits Landry on a nice play downfield. Overall a solid game. Played well within the system, took what was there, did his job.I can't tell if the OL pass blocked well? Or the emergence of JA, just kept the DL on their heels all game. Another thing I noticed is Pitt was playing off coverage most of the game. Ryan ate that apart when he had the chance.

    Week 7 Bills

    C

Weird game. Ryan didn't play particularly good or bad. the pass blocking was solid in this one. Ryan made a couple of fantastic throws rolling to his right. What was bad was he misses Stills who toasted the defender on a deep ball, he hooked up with Kenny later in the the game for a 50+ TD but Im struggling with trying to decipher if he under threw it on purpose? Or if it was just a poor pass that Stills did a fantastic job adjusting too. If anyone else would like to chime in with thoughts on that play, I certainly would listen.

    Week 8 Jets

    C

Mike Pouncey just gets his *** picked overtime he plays the Jets. He was getting flat out abused. Ryan hadn't been under this much pressure in a while. Kind of a meh game offensively, he did seem to miss more of the patterns he normally completes in this one. Didn't really do anything bad save one pick 6 he put in-between the Jet defenders number's that was dropped. he had a B first half with a D second half. We can thank the defense for this win.

    Week 9 SD

    A-

That TD pass to Stills where he gets hit is why some have stars in their eye's over 17. Cross field throw (good adjustment by Stills) with what seemed like a flick of the wrist. Very impressive play. I think I got this game and the Rams game mixed up when discussing before, he played very well overall, the pass to Parker where he got helmet to helmet was elite level shnit. Speaking of Parker, man did he look fast, energized and determined in this one. Really hope that #11 shows up again in 2018. As far as the grade this is hard for me, I want to give an A but he had some very bad throws in the redzone on two separate drives including another near INT. But as impressive as those 2 throws were....I'm gonna say to hell with it and give him an A-.

Taking a break. This is quite time consuming and knowing that the best is yet to come will make it easier to get back on this later.

My overall feeling in these set of games is, Ryan when he plays in rhythm, is very very good. I'll echo what Travis has said before..because it is very evident. The designed roll outs to the right are money. That may be the best part of his game overall.

When he is out of rhythm and forced into that second read it's a struggle. He also had a handful of play's where he had a streaking or open guy mid to deep range.....and just didn't see him and threw underneath. However, i think if you watch just about any QB you could find cases like this, so I won't hold it against him, but it happens.

I expected to see worse pass blocking in these games, it has been the narrative but really wasn't an issue outside of 2nd half Tenn and NY.

Another thing I noticed was as soon as Jay A started taking off, all these short quick throws began to open up for this offense. We saw a lot of cover 1 and zero even before PITT, but the CB's sure did loosen up to stay free from being blocked by the WR's.

So far I'm convinced an Adam Gase offense, no matter who the QB is....must have a legit running threat to work, if not we become quite easy to defend.

You guy's can feast with "numbers" PFF or whichever reference you choose, I truly have no idea how it will measure up to my grades nor do i care too much. That is what I saw, and that is what I believe so far.

    Enjoy. :crapstrom:

Yeah, extremist. As in, you pull one thing out of a post, and act like that's what I'm saying. That part about the receiver may have run the wrong route might be true, neither you nor I know...but I do know that as he was throwing that pass, he was hit by two defenders which would send the pass way off target, regardless of where the receiver was supposed to be.

My point is, that is an open ended statement. You could use that excuse for almost every INT any player throws.

The fact that you are just assuming thats what happened is just weird.

    Hey thanks for doing this!

Preliminary analysis using 1-15 point scale from F- to A+:

    1) Your mean rating is at 8.1 so about as close to C = 8 as one would hope for, while 77.8% of your ratings are within 1 standard deviation of it. That's a bit higher than the expected 67%, so that means you're slightly less willing to assign extreme scores than an "average" person would be. Otherwise the distribution is symmetric. In summary, you really don't have many biases within your rating system except a slight unwillingness to assign extreme scores (we'll see whether this continues to hold true with more ratings).

    2) Whether you like it or not, the correlation to passer rating is a whopping 0.7322!! That means that whatever is captured in passer rating explains 0.7322^2 = 53.6% of your rating system lol. So even though you like to point out that a passer rating from a single game may be totally off from how you saw the game, over many games it's a good barometer of how you rate things.

    3) In terms of "component" stats, completion percentage seems to most affect how you rate QB's with a correlation of 0.5957. Total passing yards has some effect on the way you view things with a correlation of 0.4265, but not as much as completion percentage. Apparently, passing TD's and INT's don't factor too much in how you rate QB's (correlation = 0.2095 for TD's and -0.3387 for INT's), though of the two INT's are more important.

Anyway, still a really small sample, but it's interesting to see how a person's ratings compares to different stats.

No, I pointed that out because you used that int as an example of his poor play. I'm pointing out that we don't know if a receiver messed up OR it was simply him being hit by two defenders OR a combination of the two.

It's weird that you criticize Tannehill for that throw, when in reality, the issue with that play was a tackle and a center getting dominated allowing two defenders to hit and affect him midway through his throwing motion.

    That's being an extremist.

If it's bad, its Thill's fault.
If it's good, its anyone but Thill's fault.
If they lose, it is because of Thill.
If they win, it is because anyone but Thill.
If Thill isn't playing, and the QB struggles, it is because of the line.
If Thill is playing, and the QB struggles, blaming the line is an excuse.

In the NFL, if you get 3 seconds to throw....then you gotta do something.

Im using that game as an example of a game in which he struggled, why? Because HE did. If you are waiting around for our OL to give him 3.5/4 seconds to throw, then you are better off finding something better to do with your Sunday's.

And the first pic, was him simply not recognizing where the defender was, it is obvious to everyone here he was throwing a slant, so the "what if he ran the wrong route" excuse does not apply.

    Just rewatched the Seahawks game.

I wouldn't call 20 yard in routes a deep ball. But if we want to classify it as that, then I hope you realize the argument IS about the ability to hit a WR on a go route when he has his man beat.

No one is arguing he can't make all the throws in the book, because he can. But the only play I saw that even resembles the type of pass he struggled with was the TD to Clay.

He also threw 2 bad interceptions, luckily the one in the end zone was called back because of a late helmet to helmet hit.

Don't get me wrong, he had some nice throws in this game, rookies will throw INT's like that vs that defense....but it is clear that we aren't talking the same language if you think 2 of those 3 play's were what people were frustrated about.

I dint know, but if no-one is open just squeeze the ball and take the sack. It's early in the game vs the Cleveland Browns. That game had no business being close, and yet we were lucky to even win.

That game was an example of the early season Tannehill that no one wants, the next few games after SD will be the version we ALL hope is the QB in 2018.

There is a time and a place and a situation where taking the sack is the right play. I'm sure Gase and Ryan doesn't concern themselves with extremists from the other side of the coin.

An 18 to 16 yard hook or curl is considered the deep variety as opposed to the typical midrange breaks at the 12-15 yard marks. Even then the top stem of a deep out, post, or corner is run b/w 12-15 yards. 16+ yards is considered a big passing play by many DC's. I would most certainly deem 20 yards a deep ball.

This is what happens when you come in late to the party.

The issue myself and others have had is with struggling to hit Wallace deep on go routes, this conversation has never at any point been "Ryan struggles with 20 yard in routes"

So perhaps understand the debate before hopping in. Or don't, certainly won't change my opinion of you.

I read the thread and was noting what a deep ball is with various examples.

Mike Wallace is an extremely limited route runner with horrible tracking skills. He disregards timing with his QBs in order to too often plays coy with a DB before hitting full stride and thus making it look as though he is always over/under thrown. Throw in his T-rex arm attempts in attacking the ball at it's highest point and what you (all you have) is a speed threat, which shouldn't be confused with a deep threat.

You know those things vary from team to team right? Or did your madden session show you all you need to know.

So unless you have your hands on this teams playbook, then YOU don't have the first clue of the concepts and progressions.

Nice try though, maybe try again later??

WTF? Why do I need the playbook? This is even further proof you have no idea what you're looking at. You can ID routes, route concepts, read progressions, blocking styles, coverages, etc. without a playbook. All a team's playbook entails is that it's their given language for specified plays. Haha.

No, you can't ID route concepts when it varies my team. Google Ben Mcadoo, maybe you will learn a few things about the varieties of concepts. You also have no clue what the progressions are, you can guess...but stop pretending you would know what the 1-2-3 read would be....you are sounding ridiculous.

Way too throw in basic things like "blocking styles" how generic....of course you can identify the "style" just like you can differentiate between a west coast offense and an EP offense, doesn't mean you know the assignments.

You welcome yourself to this board by making matter of fact statements, and just failed.

I've got coaches film from 2011 - to present. It takes days to breakdown games alone, pick a play or three from any of those games. I need minute marks in accordance to the gameclock or the numbered series that the plays are in.

It would also help if you chose something you had access to and you might learn something.
