Lol he better have an amazing pro day because he may very well go undrafted. Those were pathetic numbers.

I saw a one handed linebacker outbench him. And btw I loved Griffin in UCF and hes a guy i wouldnt mind taking a chance on with a 4th round pick.

In retrospect, I did 225 a total of 23 times as a high school senior working out for college scouts at a Broward County combine- and I played division III ball. I'm not sure how he got into a div I school with those stats.

Griffin would DEFINITELY be a guy worth taking a chance on...reminiscent of the day Jimmy Johnson drafted Zach Thomas, giving someone a chance that no one ever would.

I was thinking more about what you said.
I have been a weightlifter for 30 years and can I can still do more reps than brown but I am not 6 8 and don't have the long arms this guy has.Anybody have any data on guys this tall in the bench press?

Its not just the bench press and 40 he did bad... he graded terribly in every drill and showed terrible form. The guy had 8 weeks to prepare for this day.. you can have a terrible 40 time thats fine, but you showed terrible agility, skill and strength on everything else.

Thinking back, it did seem like the taller guys in the gym had more trouble locking out weights when we were doing/figuring out our max- which is why the combine does reps at 225 instead of total strength. You have to remember though that the explosiveness comes from your legs at line....upper body always helps but technique comes from your core/lower body. The 10-yard times helps indicate a player's initial burst but that's not completely indicative of a lineman's explosion off the line in a 3/4-point stance either.

Also, what does the bench really prove? You can lift 22 consecutive linebackers off your chest if there's a pile where people keep jumping on? I remember one day in college, our strength coach had a weightlifting competition with just the bar- who could bench 45 pounds the most reps? And at first we were all laughing, it seemed so stupid, but the stronger guys were the ones who did the least amount of reps because you're lifting more muscle and they get tired faster. I can't remember what I did- it was around 95-105 reps total, and I was in like 15th place overall. A 140 pound RB won by over 50 with like 225 reps or some ridiculous number...the coach explained that it all came down to muscle endurance and we needed to change our workouts to be stronger in the 4th quarter.

So on off-season Fridays, we'd do a pyramid lift (starting low weight, working up close to our max and then all the way down again). It would be like 15 total sets and you'd be 100% burnt out at the end...which was the goal. But the coach would want to compare your first set at 135 to your last set at 135.....if you did 30 the first round and 6 the last round, he'd have you work more sets at lighter weights during the following weeks. And all that plays into how many times you can bench 225...it's not a pure strength thing as much as it is muscle endurance.

So the more I think about it, the less I really care about his bench or his speed...and I don't think scouts will either. Maybe the guy slides a few rounds but I still think he will be a mid-round pick (and a steal).

A guy that could just rely on his physical gifts at the college level, but not wise enough to understand he needed to train hard and step it up for the NFL level? A HUGE red flag. That said, some team will roll the dice on him in the second or early third at the latest. Just expect him to need a year or so to get NFL ready.
