The Dolphins continue to ponder what to do with Ndamukong Suh and have not ruled out releasing the defensive tackle, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Miami, per Jackson, is trying to determine whether to restructure Suh’s contract — if he is willing — or cut him. Suh has a cap hit of $26.1 million for 2018. The Dolphins have until March 19 to decide their course of action. That’s when $8.5 million of his $17 million base salary becomes guaranteed. Suh, 31, has made five Pro Bowls. In three seasons in Miami, he has 15.5 sacks and 181 tackles.
I'm still of the belief that you eat the hit this year, then release next year when its not as much dead money. I like Suh, its just not possible for a DT to do enough to earn that much of a salary cap. His cap hit has made our D line consistently one of the most expensive, and unfortunately routinely under performing in the entire league.
Thats because the money is in the wrong place Needs investing in disruptive linebackers who can fly to the ball and make tackles. Take away the first 3 - 7 yards from an offense consistantly enough and putting them in 3rd and long - I like those odds
This. He hasn't played poorly in Miami but his production at DT does not do enough towards wins and losses to make him worth the money he is making. Detroit realized this, Miami didn't. It was a mistake then and it's still a mistake now. I like the player, hate the contract.
The Suh contract was the epitome of short term thinking. No thought went into what his contract did in the long term or whether it was value for money, but rather does this signing make Miami relevant again and for about a month it did because we got all those articles where the Dolphins 'won' the off season. Suh is one of the best players in his position and he is a positive at DT, but I think we can all agree that for the same amount of money the team could be strengthened in multiple positions. Suh's contract should be exactly what makes the head office sit down together and work out a multi-year plan. Where are we now? Where do we want to go? How to we get there? If we agree this deal now then does it handcuff us in 2 years time? There's no need to leverage the future for the sake of right now.
I think Suh is definitely the kind of player that makes everyone else around him much better. He is double-teamed on literally every single play and while his numbers aren't flashy he is definitely an impact player. He's crazy expensive so I can see the appeal of cutting him, but we better have a good plan to replace him if we do it.
Really? Wake saves us 8 million if we cut him with little to no dead cap. Do you the cost of cutting Suh? Its ridiculous. Wake is not near the player Suh is. It's not close .
Let's be honest, Wake was an amazing player for many years and he's one of the Dolphins best decisions ever...but he's also getting old.
Eh it doesnt help any this year to release him. Besides, i think suh is more than willing to restructure his deal to give us better savings but also get his later years to have more guaranteeed money
Per OverTheCap, if cut pre-June 1st, we would save only 3.9m. Pretty simple solution: can you find someone equal to or better than Suh for 3.9m? No, frankly, you cannot. Thus, it is not worth the savings to cut him. Next year, the team can save 15m with a pre-June 1st cut. This has to be trade bait--doesn't even make sense to cut him now.
Cut him next year, sign Geno Atkins out of the FA and have some money left to improve the team. The Suh contract will be killing the salary cap in the next years. 28 Million cap hit for a DT!!! Thats more than most of the QBs in the league will get. You have to cut him in 2019...
How much I hate to say this , But you can Stick a fork in the Dolphins They are Done...(wow a 1st for me to make that call so early) ( how do I know ? Leadership starting with Gase and T-bomb but Gase is just to inept and carries a lot of influence which a HC should if they know what they are doing, Gase ....not, IMO ) Lbrs QB TE its doesn't matter, Until this organization which I put GASES influence at the top who IMO is now influencing all major decision realizes we are not even starting to go anywhere with this continued half azz understanding of the little importance of an offensive line.... we're going NOWHERE without one.... Hearing they are looking at Chris Hubbard whoopie that will do it and even give us that other hole for next year to fill.... You all see a pattern here....probably not.... Chris Hubbard perfect another fill in the holes guy for an injured/suspended Marcus Gilbert this past season. And if he's cheap ding ding ding he's qualified new OL... Probably the big addition to the OL.. Truthfully this is getting hard to watch. I'll even bet we don't get either a Price, Nelson, Hernandez, Wynn, McGlinchey, Ragnow, and (Pobably not even in the thought process) Man I thought Philbin and Sparano were lame but Gase doesn't even have a clue to what value and strength a few quality OL will bring to our team... We should keep, Landry, Suh and spend the $$$ this year, even though they won't be worth it to our team. But I'd rather spend now with these Dummys in charge and hopefully with a new brain trust installed who at least knows Basic football 101 can have a better shot to do something with more funds. Because getting that money now will be such a waste. Gase's influence in the HC area is terrible and more that of an apprentice. I see it clearly now. We sucked 2 years ago, we sucked last year with or without excuses and you all will see we will suck this year too even though that suck if lucky can be in the stronger "mediocre" level ofa 10-6 .... If we want to go forward we will need a head coach that at least knows which way he is facing..... which we are lacking greatly now......

Seriously
I need a glass of scotch just to get through this. It reads like a 3rd grade report on the history of candy.
Thats because I had you and DM in mind... Figure you might get it from a 3rd grade level.... but I was wrong maybe try 1st grade for ya but first have a few snorts to wake up that brain cell...
Arguably one of the worst contracts this franchise has ever given to a player at a position that can be neutralized out by opposing blocking schemes and relies heavily on cheap players around him to play above their talent level.
Suh is a great player. That being said, there's not a non-QB in the league worth $26.1 million cap hit. And definitely not a defensive tackle.
I doubt it. He is still considered one of the best DTs in the game. So he will jump right into another giant contract while taking all of the guaranteed money from our cap space. What I doubt he will do is kick the can down the road where he suffers from losing out on a big pay day due to age or potential injury. If he restructures its going to be because we offer insane guaranteed money over the next 4 or 5 years.
Ok here we go Another exceptional player who is for the most part neutralized by double teams because the Phins lack a defensive scheme to make him successful 2016 61 tackles 5.5 sacks 2017 72 tackles 5 sacks Thats exspensive football
Appreciate your thoughts Walter. They are a little all over the place so I will start here. Gase is learning - period. Question is - Is there a curve to that learning or does he end up Joe Philbin? There is so much wrong with this team that I believe it is above Gase 's ability. The Dolphins pulled the trigger on this guy to early. Now it would be a different story if the Phins brought in someone like Wade Phillips , whos been around to partner with. Wade would also bring sysyems tried and proven. I like Gase he is a passionate very smart guy. If he was with someone like Mcdanials or Dungy for 2 or 3 yrs he would be a force to reckon with. The base is there - the experience is not. And so goes the Phins - poor front office decision. The rest of your thoughts really are secondary because without the coach and a concrete plan ............
Funny I hear that Gase is not to blame theory and I'am at the point to where OK fine another year or two and maybe realize Gase isn't fine (me, I've been seeing hints for the last 2 years and and felt he deserves a fair amount of time before making that judgement) but where this team is now? they are falling into pieces as we speak and thats not even new. But now hearing rumors of breakups to actually rebuild the team ( trumpets sounding) which again would be far out but these guys don't know what they are doing and Gase is #2 on that list......... I mean the best thing he's got going is that nobody holds him responsible for pretty much anything... Which actually if we didn't have these dimwits in charge would think finally they're getting it and the best thing to happen to us. but its them..... Earlier post I mention that Wade would have been great and mentioned Andy Reid when he was in play as a another score. Damn Gase is even clueless about the OL... That in itself is mind boggling... Sick of this merry go round of continuous ineptitude and will be slowly with drawing but I enjoy your posts where as this sight has to many children who just like being disruptive and don't bring much to the table for actual discussions. My opinion is this organization will bring a spark now and then to keep the hook in but bottom line, they don't know what they are doing to build a truly successful team... Its taken 20 years to finally get to this point of throwing in the towel, and again it would be soooo nice to be wrong.... But its just to damn obvious IMO...... and I think my days of venting are nearing there end, but always will have my fingers crossed.. Have a great day Sox
I hear all your saying. Took me 40 years of the same. Took a break for a while. Followed a few other teams a little - from a distance. Make no mistake - this nonsense of its not Gase fault is just that - nonsense. He's in charge - its his team - hes responsible He needs help - in over his head As far as not knowing - that is obvious - Tannenbaum did the same **** to the J E T S jets, jets jets THEIR STILL GROUNDED - have never recovered
Jeff Darlington ✔ @JeffDarlington The plan is for Ndamukong Suh to be released as early as today as the Dolphins continue their attempt at a culture change – a plan that has purged arguably Miami’s three most talented players within last year. A lot riding on 2018. 10:28 AM - Mar 12, 2018
