Cutler was definitely below average- but a few facts can't be ignored.

    1) He threw to Landry more than any other QB in the league threw to any player.

    2) You only face 3rd downs when you fail to move the ball 10 yards on 1st or 2nd down. And I'll state again that Cutler loved the Landry screens on every down.

While your data shows that Cutler was far below average on 3rd down, I can't see getting around those 160 attempts to Landry and calling Landry blameless. Landry fought hard for every inch so I'm not trying to knock the guy at all- he's a great player. But a big part of the reason we ended up 6-10 is because we went to that well far too often and defenses were sitting back waiting for it. They could safely give him a 5-yard cushion, let him catch every single pass and it still didn't matter if we didn't get a first down.

That made our "strength" the opponent's strength as well- they wanted us to throw to Landry since it was the safest option on the field. So while I agree that it was Cutler's fault...it was also Gase's fault for even considering a short pass to Landry in the first place. You can't really fault Landry for catching the ball and trying his best; I just don't see how any team pays $16M to have that highly limited option.

Then how did the Dolphins make it to the playoffs the year before? You're giving the Bills all this credit for winning 9 games and having a 22nd and 18th ranked offense and defense, respectively. The Dolphins won 10 games with the 17th and 18th ranked offense and defense and yet all we hear is how they "got lucky".

The Bills have been much worse than the Dolphins over the last 20 years. And yes, they've acquired a lot of picks this season and that's probably good for them. However, what did they give up? Arguably their best players and they passed up on Mahomes and a few other good players.

Here is a good article explaining what they did.

    http://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffa...trades_whos_currently_winning_each_trade.html

They are in a good position as long as they hit on a high percentage of their picks this draft. If not, they are up a creek without a paddle.

    You really should blame Landry.

I understand "what" you're saying but it doesn't apply to Landry. Jarvis was never a deep ball receiver. That wasn't his forte. Landry isn't FAST, but he's QUICK with the ability to juke left or right after making a short yardage reception and turn that into a big play. Landry was never going to be used as that deep ball receiver as he doesn't possess the size, power nor speed to compete with DB's in the NFL for those big pass plays. That's what Stills and Parker (and even Grant due to his unreal speed) are for.

I like Landry and I wish him well but on the other side of that coin, I'm glad he's gone too. When a player presents an ultimatum to a team..."pay me this or I'm gone", then you're more about yourself than the TEAM and when it comes to football, the TEAM is greater than any one player.

He's not going to make what he wants on the market. I'm on the record as saying players should get as much as they can as fast as they can. However, you can't be stupid and overvalue yourself right out of the market. If I waited long enough (10 years, maybe) I could probably find someone to buy my classis car for $40k. In reality I can probably get about $30k.

He wanted both more than what he is worth and more than the Dolphins could afford to pay. To top it off, he turned down a long term, ~$12-$13m per year deal.

That's on him. And when he finds out that he's not going to get a long term deal from the Browns (or anyone else) at the price he wants maybe he'll wake up.

I've already explained these points several posts back. It's just too difficult to have to keep repeating the same points over and over. again. I don't know how some do.

Dissecting Landry’s number even more is more mind boggling how he manage his stats on many targets.

If you take away his six big plays (only six plays went over 20 yards, pathetic for a guy that wants to be paid like Antonio Brown). Six of those catches went for 173 yards.

Which means he had 106 catches and 814 yards on anything below 20 yards, average of 7.6 yards per reception. That is special, and not in a good way..

i remember a lot of people defending Brian Hartline here, saying he’s our best route runner a 1000 yard receiver and the chemistry with tannehill. And i said it then and ill say it now, any average receiver can get 1000 if you give him the targets. That does not mean you should break the bank for Hartline and definitely doesnt mean you should give jarvis 5 years 86 million.

Now jarvis may have a great year next year, but ill be the first to credit Josh Gordon (if he doesnt get suspended again), he will be drawing away most of the attention off him. And if they get Saquon Barkley then even more so.

I hope you are right and the GM got lucky but he is in year 1.This is year 4 for tannabaum and grier this roster looks a mess.
I was expecting 11-5 last year before tanny got hurt but I didn't see 6-10 either after he got hurt. The talent on this team is worse now than last year so I see a 7-9 season on the way.

I'm not sure how you're seeing worse talent. Landry and Cutler are gone and RT will be back. There will be, I'm suspecting, a purge of players like Timmons and Thomas. McMillian will be a starter. Quinn is a good player as long as he stays healthy. I'm optimistic about Anthony. He had a fantastic rookie season. And we still have the upcoming draft.

Landry is the only good player gone. However, I suspect that may enable players like Grant to get more reps. That's a good thing.

Excuses? I like how you cant dispute anything else on my post filled with stats and facts, you just went to the part you can possibly have an argument for if and only if landry does something he hasnt ever done in four years in the league.

Ajayi wasn't a punch. He sucked for us last year. Drake played much better.

    Suh won't be gone.

The OL isn't as bad as some try to make it. Yes, they had their issues, and I hope they can get better, but that's true for every team and every position. You're always trying to get better.

If there are so many unknowns, or as you say, "unprovens", how can you make predictions so confidently?
