He's a) not VERY undersized b) he's more than athletic enough and c) average arm???? Are you talking about Curtis Mayfield or Baker Mayfield? Second highest velocity at the Combine and he overthrew a receiver 77 yards down the field last season. OVERTHREW him. Come on man. Be better. He absolutely wasn't a product of the system. Another utter misnomer. The NFL arm stuff is just absolutely ridiculous. Ridiculous.

Crikey, ever had any fun in your life? Jesus. It's pretty typical behaviour.

I'm not enamoured with anyone to the point where I don't look analytically. He grabbed his crotch on national television because Kansas players had a) refused to shake his hand at kick-off b) cheap shotted him in the 2nd quarter and then c) took a head shot at him in the third. I couldn't care less about it and nor could 90% of people.

No gamble, no chequered history. Emotions are part of sport. Sport isn't played by automatons.

    Ghost rider THAT.

It was interesting what Neuheisel had to say about him at the beginning of the piece. When you watch him play, it's very true that he does have a knack for throwing it to where only his receiver can get it and throwing guys open. That would be huge in the NFL. Among many others, the pass at the 5 min mark over the middle is a great example. Pretty cool.

I guess if there is any concern with him, it would be the type of offense they ran at Oklahoma. They ran a lot of spread stuff and he rarely took snaps from under center. I know teams are running a lot more spread stuff in the NFL these days, but you still have to be good under center. I would still be happy if they drafted him. That just could be a concern if there are any.

What in sam hell does that have to do with Mayfield, and what I quoted with Boomer stating: “the same as 99.9% of college students do every weekend?”

    That’s right, nothing.

Yeah, I’ve had a lot of fun in my life. That has absolutely no bearing on your asinine statement that: “the same as 99.9% of college students do every weekend.”

Have you ever had children in this life? It has about as much bearing as you asking me if I’ve had “fun” in life. I’m going to wager that you don’t have children, and the only responsibilities in your life revolve around yourself.

I’m sure that Mayfield’s parents were positively aglow when they found out he was arrested and tried to flee from the cops, and then making a complete fool of himself on national television. That’s really top notch stuff, and something to admire in your incumbent “leader.”

You can make excuses until you’re blue in the face, but that won’t change the facts or reality of what happened.

Let me reiterate it for you, 99.9% of the college students out there DO NOT find themselves on the wrong side of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, along with fleeing and resisting arrest.

    Why are you lying?

    A. He is very undersized for an NFL QB. That is a fact.
    B. He had just about the worst athletic measurables of any of the top QBs at the combine. He is a scrapper and a competitor. But not much of an athlete. That is also a fact.
    C. His arm is nothing special. He is accurate but hasn't shown that he can make all the throws on a consistent basis, specifically out routes and deep throws. Didnt do too many pro sets in college throwing into tight windows. He is a product of a spread college offense which takes advantage of his ability to scramble and find the open man. Don't think he would do as well under center in a pro style offense imho.

Great question. The state of this franchise is a difficult one. We're one year removed from the playoffs having lost our franchise QB for the season which immediately makes things more difficult. Look at what happened to Green Bay when Rodgers went down. Mike McCarthy is a game over .500 in the last two seasons despite having arguably the greatest QB of all time for 21 of 32 games. Gase has had 17 for 12 of 32. And he’s at .500

But state of the franchise is a tough one. What are we as a franchise? Are we “bad” when we were “good” a year ago? Or were we actually “bad” a year ago, just masquerading as “good’? I don’t have the answers to that. I don’t. I think you have an owner prepared to do what he he can financially to make it right. He supports the team team as much if not more than any other owner in the league. So does he hire the right people? Probably not in certain circumstances. He takes - IMO - bad advice from people who’ve been out of the game for too long - people like Carl Peterson. He’s too nice or at least too loyal to those around him. I think Tannenbaum was fairly toxic when he left the Jets, rehabilitated himself as an agent but here we are again. I think Chris Grier is well respected around the league but is he a big hitter as a GM? A Ron Wolf, an Ozzie Newsome, a Howie Roseman, etc? I don’t know and I don’t think we truly will know until he’s in charge and unencumbered of Tannenbaum.

Will he get that chance? I suspect not.

Is there an issue with scouting? Possibly. we have a number of very well regarded scouts, especially young scouts like Adam Engroff. But we also have a LOT of holdovers. Guys like Ron Brockington who’ve been here through multiple administrations and that means multiple failures. Are they singing from the same proverbial hymn sheet? If someone has overseen a disastrous period in any business, do you keep that person employed? Not saying Brockington and some of the veteran peers are solely to blame. But something’s not working. I feel at times as if the whole scouting staff should be swept away and a new regime brought in from top to bottom.

Is it coaching? Why did Jimmy Johnson fail? Why did Nick Saban walk away? I think there’s a very interesting argument to be made about Saban. In the 2005 draft when he took Ronnie Brown at 2 instead of Aaron Rodgers, that was the biggest single mistake in this franchise in a very long time. Hindsight is a beautiful thing of course, but what if Miami had taken Rodgers and not Brown? You’re literally changing the landscape of the NFL over the past 13 years. You then have the two best coaches in football with probably the two best players in football in the same division for as long as you could envisage. Hell, Saban could still be here now if we’d have drafted Rodgers. Would things have worked out for Aaron here as they have in Green Bay? Who knows? But talent is talent. I think you could make a fairly compelling argument that Miami and NE battle out for AFC supremacy for multiple years over more than a decade.

Is Miami the city to blame? Tax free living, the heat, the fact that Miami isn’t a great sport city? Do players know they’re coming here to enjoy the perks of tax, the weather? Does the fact that we practice and play in 85 degree weather all season effect us when you consider the games we have to play in the cold? Can we really consistently go to KC in December or Foxboro or NY or Buffalo and win in winter? If our division was Miami, New Orleans, Tampa and Jacksonville, would we be better?

I don’t have the answers and I don’t know if there IS a definitive answer. I suspect it’s a lot of factors, many of which are form above.

Nick saban struck out twice missing on 2 hall famers though the brees situation was just listening like he should to his medical staff.
I am very scared of the bills as it looks like this GM beane knows what he is doing. They sit at number 12 loaded with draft picks and this will change but as of today will have 100 mil to work with in 2019.This is how you set yourself up to win long term in this league.
Tanneabaum does not deserve another chance to rebuild but he will get it.This is why I don't like ross as an owner.

That clip does not show practical arm stength. You put enough air under the ball you can get it pretty far. Does not mean he has a stong arm for practical purposes as the reciever was open deep and he couldnt even remotely hit him in stride.

A better representation of his arm strength would be him hitting deep outs and deep posts into tight windows on a consistent basis, something he has never shown he can do. That along with his lack of experience playing under center in a pro offense and his immaturity tells me we should pass and address bigger needs.

So, he's the same size as two of the top 5 QBs in the league (Brees and Wilson) and you're claiming he's still undersized? While we can't answer the question of translation to NFL offense accurately, the rest of your post is garbage, you should stop throwing "fact" around because it makes you look foolish

You stated, and I quote verbatim: “The stuff about off field are nothing. Yeah he got drunk and ran around a bit - the same as 99.9% of college students do every weekend.“

99.9% of the college students DO NOT experience or get charged charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, along with fleeing and resisting arrest.

That’s not having a bit of “fun.” You’re not Baker Mayfield’s blood relative, and there’s no reason to lie on his behalf. You’re willfully being patronizing, because it just so happens you want the kid to play for your favorite football team. Enough with the fabrication.

I have two children of my own, and that was actually a “fun” moment in my life - creating and welcoming them into this world. It’s an amazing feeling.

College students do get drunk, but 99.9% of the college students out there don’t get charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, along with fleeing and resisting arrest. Surely, you understand this.

There’s no “fun,” or any kind of levity, when a kid takes it too far and runs afoul with the law. As a parent, I’m certain this rudimentary truth is something that you can appreciate.

    Stop the madness.

I called someone out that said something false, and it’s quite easy to understand that principle.

Whenever you want to argue the facts, then I will be all ears and open to discussion. Fact of the matter is that Baker Mayfield was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, along with fleeing and resisting arrest.

Boomer tried to make light of that fact, with embellished figures and then went into the denial phase.

You don’t have a leg to stand on. Even if he didn’t mean it literally, it’s still a false statement that is designed to soften and minimize the mistakes that Baker Mayfield has made in his past.

    That’s disingenuous and inexcusable.

When you need to use make believe to prove a point, the argument ceases to have any weight or credibility.

Do you speak at the behest of Boomer and act as his interpreter? He seems capable enough of speaking for himself.

I know Mayfield is a long shot, so if we don't get him for my consolation prize I hope we somehow get Lamar Jackson. Not at 11, but at the end of round 1 or top of round 2. How does a pairing of Smith (11) and Jackson (end of round 1) strike you? We keep Tannehill. Let Jackson learn the 1st year, or when Tannehill gets hurt, and then it's show time! The dude has the same TD/INT as Rosen, so I don't want to hear any of that stuff about his accuracy. Yes, he needs work, but for me the upside is to great to pass on. IMO, the dude could help our offense in a number of ways:
    1) He is accurate enough and can run an offense
    2) He can run, and scores a lot of TDs with his legs
    3) He needs a dedicated defensive shadow
