Adam SchefterVerified account @AdamSchefter More changes coming in Miami: Dolphins center Mike Pouncey has requested his released and Miami is expected to grant it today, per source.
Im kinda happy with this. I think we needed to get younger at that postion anyway. whos going to replace him I have no IDEA lol but were in full rebuilding mode it seems.
lol...he was probably asked to take less money and said "no, release me". If he would have been signed to his current contract people would have complained then, too, I bet...
If that scenario is true...I really don't blame him. Who in their right mind would take less money to play on a losing team?
Not willing to take a cut Right move. I would roll with brendel but maybe they sniff Travis Swanson again or go with Larsen
He wanted a longer term deal but his hips could go out at any moment. I am not mad but would love to get billy price in the draft now
Good riddance. Lived off the name of his brother for many years, and was often injured. Not practicing with your teammates, especially at the OL, and there’s no chance to develop sustainable cohesion. He won’t be missed. The guy has a degenerative hip, that’s not what you want at your center position. I’m surprised he lasted this long, quite frankly.
I am surprised, but I would have moved on from him years ago. He plays well when he’s healthy but there have been a lot of off field issues that concern me. It sounds like he thought he was more valuable to the phins than they thought he was.
The Aaron Hernandez stuff, and then the tweet after we drafted Ja'Wuan James of: "Great pick! I can't wait for our gifts he's getting us lol," - was just in extremely poor taste and immature. And I think you nailed it, he thought more of himself (even with a degenerative hip) than the organization did. This a wonderful turn of events, get youth at the position that can stay on the field and practice. When Jake Brendel filled in for Pouncey last year, I thought the OL looked even better. He played really well when he got the snaps. If we sign Sitton, our OL will be shaping up just fine going forward.
Didn't see it coming but don't see it as an earth shattering shock. Sort of deal where you keep one eye on FA to see who other teams drop but in reality go even deeper into the scouting for the draft as it rises on the position of need.
He’s been an idiot and injured way too often. I’m not sad that he’s gone but it does create another huge hole. Having said that, I wouldn’t take a pay cut to play for this dysfunctional franchise.
I've been saying all off season he needed to go. I was hoping via a trade so we could get something for him. The fact of the matter is with his hip issues he is simply not the same player he was. It was an act of God that he played all 16 games last year.
This season is a wash already and we haven't even started. No matter how well we do in the draft or free agency, we're not going to be able to fill all the holes we're making.
Um... They lost Suh from DL, added Quinn. They lost Juice at WR... got 2! quality guys... making the chart Amendola, Parker, Stills, Wilson, Grant. That's Deep. They IMMEDIATELY replaced Pouncey with a better Run blocker (with an awesome name to boot!) and upgraded guard. So far, their biggest holes are KICKER and replacing the production of the corpse of Julius Thomas.
Putting a warm body in the same position isn't the same as replacing the talent. If you actually believe that the WRs we got are a replacement for Landry, I can't help you.
I'm actually feeling pretty good about this offseason so far all things considered, BUT.... You can't act as if the addition of Quinn cancels out the loss of Suh. They play two completely different positions first and foremost. The Suh loss is real. It is not a hole though. We have three very solid DTs right now. So we got worse at DT but not bad enough that it is a hole. Neither of those two WRs will replace Landry's talent, but they with a TE will probably replace his production. That MAY be a good thing because it will diversify the targets more, making the offense less predictable....again.....maybe.
Self analysis should of played a role.. He’s lost some..he doesn’t practice...we’ve paid him handsomely even when he’s missed a ton of games...He was directly involved in a scandal that made us look bad. All equals a relative adjustment to his salary moving forward.. All three guys, Landry, Juice and Suh have issues understanding their fair market value.
I love how fans feel 9 million for an injury prone center is too much but 6 million for an injury prone slot WR who probably won't even play half the snaps due the 8 million we gave to an avg slot wr is an improvement.
He's literally never started 16 of 16 games and has only played 16 games twice in his 9 year career. He's started 46 of 111 games. The last 3 years alone he's played 1410 snaps of a possible 3176. Compared say to Landry who's played 2681 snaps of a possible 2885. He had a concussion last year which is his 3rd as well as a knee injury that limited him to playing time. He missed 4 games 2016 due to an ankle injury. A Knee injury in 2015 which again limited him to playing time 12 plays against Titans and 23 plays against Dolphins and made him miss the Denver game and Jet game.
When the stuff came out about his partying habits during the J Martin affair I seriously wondered if he took good care of his body. What has happened after then has made me think he just doesn’t put the requisite care into conditioning that other players do.
(Moved your quote and my post to a more appropriate area as to not derail the Sitton thread) It's rational and it can be backed up. Here's just a quick example I already had loaded up. Pouncey misreads the blitz, doubles the strongside guard leaving a 4 man rush to 3 blockers on the weakside (right). Call should have been Man left/strong with the the RB picking up the LDM (least dangerous man), and a Zone slide right/weak in which Pouncey is responsible for the 2i (NT shaded to the inside of the RG) as the rest of the right side of line slides accordingly. Pouncey instead is clueless and is left trying to find work while the 2i comes clean for the sack. There are plenty of examples of these miscalls and misreads. Pouncey also has obvious tells due to improper weight distribution b/c of his hip problems. You can often tell by his lean: forward (run), backwards (pass pro), or is it shifted left or right b/c he is pulling? Sometimes you can even get a tell from wrist flexion and bulging veins in his plant arm, or by his fingers in the grass (flexed or lax) on whether he intends to fire out or drop into a pass set. Glad he is gone for a number of reasons.
