There is only one of those guys in a draft about every 25 years. I’m sure they would all settle for a Philip Rivers or Big Ben type.
Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should put that part on the big screen in the stadium during Phin/Jet games.
Forgive me if any of you have answered this already, but the Jets trading up has me thinking about the top talent in the draft. Is there a guy, a non QB, who you think we should try and trade up and get? Is Chubb, or Barkely all that special? Are they transitional types who could potentially help us turn the corner? When I think of players that are transitional, I think of QB's. Would one of these guys fit the bill? Would you be excited if we came away from the draft with a top tier talent, but less resources to help our team depth? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
I think Rosen is the guy the Jets want. I get that everyone is blasting them for moving up and it makes the McCown/ Bridgewater signing$ all the more puzzling, but you need a good quarterback to win in the NFL. I can't stand the Jets, but I understand swinging for the fences. I happen to think this current quarterback class may be one of the better ones we've seen since in quite a while. I don't think this necessarily puts us out of the QB race. If Buffalo stands pat and we stay put, I'm willing to bet that one of them is available for us at 11 if we want him.
I dont think the Jets have the coaches in place for Rosen. I like Todd Bowles, he should definitely be a head coach, but he will also have little involvement in any quarterback’s development. The insight he will give to Rosen is from a defensive perspective, which is still valuable, but as far as mechanics goes and playcalling, Bowles isnt going to provide any of that, and i dont think he has the coaching staff behind him that can take Rosen to the level he needs to be. All in all, i feel bad for the quarterback getting drafted by the Jets, because i think if the jets dont make the playoffs again or show some sort of significant progress - and If Rosen or any quarterback have a terrible rookie year, then woody is going to fire the entire staff and bring in a new staff and already youre going through coaching change #1, with also a huge question mark on the new staff.
I also dont understand investing 25 million between bridgewater and mccown, and then moving up to draft a quarterback. I have a feeling they want Barkley. Because why would you draft a quarterback that early just to have him sit the entire season. I dont know if i can wrap my head around that. With the 3rd overall pick i think you have near 30 million invested in 3 quarterbacks. Sheesh
Bowles is fighting for his job, im not sure how much involvement he has with personnel, last year woody handicapped him and gave him a terrible roster and Bowles was a sitting duck in a main street, did the most he could with the talent they gave him. But with in mind that hes fighhting for his job, Saquon Barkley is the favorite to have the best rookie season. This kid could have a rookie season like Ezekiel elliot, or better. He can save your job.
That's why I asked a few thread earlier. Not talking about a few spots, that could be for anybody. I am curious about major moves up. I am guessing most would do it for just a QB, but there are probably a few exceptions. A RB like Barkley could take some pressure off McCown.
Way to much for a running back, that would be insane. They have no issue investing so much in QB this year because they have so much dang cap space. They can trade someone or cut someone without really being affected. McCown just came off a career year and it got the Jets what, 5 wins? He's not an answer. And Teddy ... If we are unsure about Tannehill, Teddy is 10x more of an unknown. They are just collecting resources and taking chances.
That's sort of what I am trying to figure out. Is it QB all the way, or will we be surprised. I am hoping somebody phenomenal will shake loose or at least be in striking distance. :-)
Yea but explain paying 25 mill between bridgewater and josh... if it were me i would have just signed mccown and then draft a quarterback. But they invested so much money on two quarterbacks already, so now theyre going to give up the farm for a third quarterback? In one offseason bridgewater - 15 million Josh - 10 million Rookie QB - A first rounder, 3 second round picks to move up 3 spots. Oh and this qb wont be starting because you already invested 25 million on two other quarterbacks? I just dont get it. It sounds like failure is in their future. Thats why Saquon Barkley is the only prospect that makes sense here, and even then that doesnt make sense because of what you said. By the way, Mayfield and NY does not mix well.
With what the Jets are doing and with the Bills trying to jump up into the QB mix, I think it's entertaining watching them burn up draft picks.
The Jets have invested 15 million in McCown and Bridgewater. McCown is 1 year at 10 mil. Bridgewater is 1 year at 5 mil, not 15 mil. He literally had no market. For 5 mil it was a no brainier. When all the talk was the Jets getting Cousins, I was praying for this scenario. I didn't want them to spend that kind of money for a QB that can't beat a good team. I wanted them to move up and draft a potential franchise QB. Of course there are no guarantees, but it's exciting for me as a fan. I wish they didn't give up next year's second round pick but they needed to move up or risk not getting Darnold, Rosen or Allen. I don't think Mayfield is an option for them. And whoever they draft won't see a single regular season snap unless Bridgewater's leg falls off.
I'm hoping both the Bills and Jets burn huge draft stock this year moving up and that the QBs tbey draft are busts. It should keep both teams down for the next 2-3 years easily. Combine that with Brady falling off the QB cliff due to age/injuries (not wishing injury on him but age and not having a good LT = trouble) and the door is open for the Phins to take over the AFCEast for the near future. At least close the gap with the Pats this year.
I wouldn't completely discount a rookie starting. I feel they are modelling after the Eagles who had Bradford, but let Wentz compete and win. Then they traded Bradford. Jets could do the same and trade McCown to a desperate team hit with injury, or could use the preseason to showcase and trade Teddy. Neither will fetch what Bradford did, but it's basically house money.
I honestly think if one is going to fail its the Jets. I just cant wrap my head around the trade they made. There isnt a once in a generation quarterback prospect in this draft. The top 4 are about even, one doesnt stand out more than the other. And then who knows how it translates to the NFL. You might as well have given up all of that to a Super Bowl MVP, at least Foles is proven and he is available. The eagles arent saying no to that offer i dont care what they are saying right now, Foles is a free agent after next year and you dont say no to a pile of early picks to lose him for nothing. Its not like his success is so flukey either, he once had the passer rating title for the 2013 or 2014 season. He is still young. So do you trade a first rounder and two seconds for foles, or do you trade up and add a third second for a prospect. We are going to be talking about this trade for a long *** time. We are also going to be talking about all the second round picks the Colts selected.
Many people said the same about Philadelphia moving up for Wentz. Whether its worth it or not depends on whether or not they hit the bullseye.
Browns get: No. 8 (traded to TEN, OT Jack Conklin) Third-round pick (traded to CAR, CB Daryl Worley) Fourth-round pick (traded to OAK, QB Connor Cook) First-round pick in '17 Second-round pick in '18 Eagles get: No. 2 (Wentz) Conditional fifth-round pick in '17 (can become a fourth) I don't know. It's pretty close.
And to be completely informative...Marino was drafted with the 27th overall pick and the LAST quarterback taken in the first round, behind #1 John Elway (Baltimore Colts..traded to Denver) #7 Todd Blackledge (Kansas City) #14 Jim Kelly (Buffalo) #15 Tony Eason (New England) #24 Ken O'Brien (New York Jets) Marino was never a "gamble" with Miami. Had the Dolphins traded up to the top 10 or 5 to draft Marino, then THAT would have been a gamble
Yes. Plus a 1 mil signing bonus. None of the 5 mil is guaranteed. I'm surprised he didn't hold out for a better offer from another team. My guess is he thinks he can beat out McCown in training camp and ressurect his career. He seems like a solid dude .I hope it works out for him.
I'm pretty sure McCown's contract is fully guaranteed so it won't be him . And I don't think they will go into the season with whoever they draft in the first round as the backup. I think both McCown and Bridgewater will be on the roster opening day.
If the Jets draft a qb I don't think they keep Bridgewater.I think McCown is their guy until they find the future qb.
has Miami ever made a deal like this in the past 15 years? like traded to move up to get a top guy? im just wondering because I cant remember them ever trading up to the top 5 in the draft to get a guy?
