Today, the sun rises with new promise. I was looking through my notes, and I really am surprised by some of the names still available. Here are a few guys that I now think have premium value: Josh Jackson, CB Iowa - I love this kid. Think of this kid as a better version of Tony Lippett. He is a WR convert, and a ball hawk. He has a nose for the ball. Just imagine Howard, Jackson, and Minkah floating around our backfield. We might need our own turnover chain. Dallas Goedert, TE S. Dakota St. - I have never seen a team run their offense through their tight end like S. Dakota State. He is quick and smooth in his routes, and is a pass catching specialist. He lined up all over the place. Gase could finally get the tight end that he was looking for. Will Hernandez, G UTEP - His lack of technique dropped him out of the first, but he is a value in the second round. Meet the immovable rock. I think we have learned as a organization that overinvesting in the offensive line is a far greater sin that underinvesting. Could you imagine Tunsil, Sitton, Kilgore, Hernandez, James? Ryan Tannehill with a solid, line with, dare I say it, depth - sign me up. Harold Landry, DE Boston College - I can't believe this guy is still there. He reminds me of a shorter Jason Taylor. He is an athletic defensive end that has great closing speed. We've got defensive ends for days, and we certainly don't need him, but then again Minkah wasn't exactly a position of need either. Christian Kirk, WR Texas A&M - Although a slot receiver, this is my best receiver in the draft. He reminds me of Jarvis Landry with better speed. He catches a lot of slants but has the ability to make a five yard catch into a big play. He is also a great returner. We are set at the WR position, and he is not exactly a need, but man is he a good player. Derrius Guice, RB LSU - I thought that Guice was impressive at LSU. He is a mean and aggressive RB that fights for extra yards. He gets a lot out of his frame. He would be a nice complement to Drake and could probably beat out Frank Gore for the #2 position.
I expect ALL those guys to be gone before we pick at #42. If I could choose one to slip down to Miami, it would be Goedert, everyone else is a depth pick.
If the giants pass on Will Hernandez their making a big mistake with Barkley on board. I thought Guice was being overrated with all the first round talk based on the film and some backround stuff that I questioned, after I saw him tell reporters about the combine questions I stated that I believe he was lying, I saw it in his face..he's damaged good for me for our team..let somebody else deal with his Punk azz. Gisicki I dont like at all, I cant have someone that is that bad at an important trait of the position, I dont want players who give tells with their skillset..his coordination on blocking is so bad that hes gonna get run at this level or get someone else hurt..dude looks like a newborn giraffe when he attempts to block.. Ive got to have Griffin on this team so I would go there with my 2nd.
Pretty sure giants are zone scheme so I doubt it on Hernandez. Guice isn’t enough of a pass catcher for me to see gase turning in that card. Might be Ian Thomas for us at tight end. His tape is littered with blown assignments by the defense production. There is a hell of a red zone fade td catch though that shows his body control. Harold Landry won’t last long today neither will josh Jackson.
Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports reports the Cowboys plan to select SMU WR Courtland Sutton on Friday. A 92nd-percentile SPARQ athlete, the 22-year-old is widely considered the top receiver available and should be drafted early on Day 2. Dallas desperately needs a pass-catcher after cutting Dez Bryant and losing Jason Witten to retirement. The Cowboys don't pick until No. 50 and will likely have to trade up to land Sutton. I would target Goedert but if he's gone b4 our pick I would trade down. Philly wants to move up AND unload LB Mychal Kendricks. I've been beating the trade for M.Kendricks drum for a couple of seasons. Yes, I'm very aware of our embarrassing trade history w/ the Eagles but this is different. Kendricks is legit but up against a numbers game. IMO we can still get a top TE at #52, our QB in the 3rd and a 27yr old play-making LB w/SB experience.
Someone at NFL network has us taking Rudolph QB OSU. Personally I would like to see us go in a different direction. Anyone have any ideas where Falk would get picked? I would rather go after 1 of the top TE's in round 2 but if they are gone then maybe a sexy pick like James Daniels C Iowa. WR's Kirk and Washington I like but doubt they would go that direction in round 2.
I was wondering if we should try and grab him in round 2, also. I don't know if that is my heart doing the talking though.
I just saw a chart today that Falk took 0% of snaps from under center in college. That would seem to make him a bigger project than I first thought to adjust to a pro offense, so maybe he slips down to our first FOURTH round pick?
