I finally got around to seeing the Ghostbusters reboot, and I unfortunately didn't like it nearly as much as I'd hoped to. I think that the casting and acting were just fine, but the movie didn't have much of a clear sense of direction. They could have chosen to stay within the existing Ghostbusters world and created a story that took place 30 years later, or they could have chosen to start totally from scratch and either could have worked. But instead, they tried to basically say to the audience "You know who the Ghostbusters are, and this is kind of different. Go!"

What we ended up with was a movie that didn't try very hard to explain itself, hurried through everything, left most of the characters flat and underdeveloped, and had a mediocre TV show quality villain and ending while at the same time running over two hours. They also broke a lot of the laws of how the Ghostbusters universe is supposed to work without giving a new explanation of what they were doing.

I watched annihilation yesterday. Good special effects, nice sci-fi feeling to it, but fell short on delivery.

I watched the Green Inferno tonight. It's about a group of college kids protesting the destruction of the rain forest, that are captured by a cannibalistic tribe in the jungles of South America. It's inspired by the Italian movies of the same genre from the late 70's/early 80's. It's an Eli Roth film, so it's quite graphic.

^^^This 100%. I love action hero movies, but Black Panther was just bad. All around...horrible.

    2/10 for me

I watched A Quiet Place a few days ago. It's a really good movie. It's not the scariest (frankly, I can't really think of a movie that scared me since the original The Hills Have Eyes), but the acting was good, the story was good, and I did jump a few times.

    8/10 for me

NBA season is over for me, so I just went on a movie binge...

Deadpool 2 - I'll give it a 6 out of 10. It kept my attention. There wasn't enough storyline. It seemed rushed.

Ready Player One - 7 out of 10. Pretty cool concept, good graphics, and enough action to keep me intrigued.

Game Night - 4 out of 10. Meh...

Avengers Infinity War - 7 out of 10. Good action. I wouldn't put it in my top 5 Marvel movies though. I hate when bad guys have a soft spot. I prefer them to be totally ruthless.

Den of Thieves - 5 out of 10. Decent action. Ice Cube's son is becoming a decent actor. Had a pretty good twist at the end.

Red Sparrow - 4 out of 10. I expected more action and suspense from a spy movie.

Pacific Rim 2 - 4 out of 10. I enjoyed the first movie, this one was too corny for me.

I gave it a 2/10 as well. I'm just glad I never got around to seeing it at the theater, especially with the deceptively bloated IMDb rating it's carrying. The average rating by the people who take the time to create a review tells a different story though (like a 4.7 avg).

Casting Alden Ehrenreich was just a terrible decision. Looks aside, he's too short and his voice is too high. It's just annoying to listen to him. They might as well have cast Mark Ruffalo.

Apart from that, I'll always think of him as the singing cowboy from Hail Caesar!

Black Panther sucked a bag of *****. Funniest thing I've seen about it was the tweet "Wakanda sh1t is this?" And his genius babysister. GTFO.

Watched Deadpool 2 and Infinity Wars this past week. DP2 Intro was disappointing as Hell compared to the original, so a major letdown from the jump. Some of the other stuff with his girl was just blahhh... movie was all over the place until Cable showed up. At least Deadpool made a joke about how little Cable was in the movie compared to the comics, tho Brolin was ripped for the movie.

Thing that annoyed me the most was the way Cable was dressed. Looked like someone had a $30 gift card to an Army-Navy surplus store and they raided the clearance rack. Nothing he wore looked right on him and the stupid cape was just dumb. Didn't really like the fat kiwi kid either... and as for the story, why was it only fat fist seeking revenge? Domino came out of there as well and seemed content enough until she went back at the end... meh.

A lot of the jokes were "just jokes" and forgotten as soon as you walked out of the theater. I'd watch it again, but only on redbox or NF.

Infinity wars was annoyingly, obviously, a prequel.

    - Felt like a eco-warning, cautiounary tale from the Hollywood elitist jackasses. I wish the weirdo's and moral degenerates in Hollywood would stop trying to preach to everyone and just tell a story. Thanos' character didn't make sense at times. Also, his penchant for little girls was weird. One he adored. One he tortured and tormented for amusement and to control the other.
    - Was annoying to see Hulk beaten into being a coward, Banner and Stark out-smarted. Vision out thought...
    - The 16 y/o sister of Black Panther. Super genius talking down to Banner. GTFO
    - Thor, once again, doing his Rocky impression where he gets his *** kicked, has to be rescued by girls, and pumped up and revived to get back to form.
    - Dr Strange was Paul Revere. And otherwise brought nothing to the movie.
    - "Rabbit" gave Thor a new eye. Dafuq?
    - Thor really failed with the groot hammer there at the end. Why bother? Movie obviously was set up for a 2nd.
    - Could Thor, the "Pirate-Angel", have done anything on his own without the Faildians of the Galaxy in this movie?
    - Quill having his soul and body separated/atomized was good riddance. So annoying in this movie.
    - It really felt like this movie was just going through motions and it seemed flat to me.

The Raid 2 - 10 out of 10. STANDING OVATION! That's the type of action I like. Can't believe it took me so long to find this.

A Quiet Place - 7 out of 10. Jim from "The Office" directed and starred in a pretty damn good thriller.

The Commuter - 5 out of 10. Seems like Liam Neeson plays the same character in every movie, lol.

Breaking In - 4 out of 10. Staring at Gabrielle Union was the only highlight.

Watched and enjoyed "Small Town Crime" with John Hawkes and Clifton Collins Jr.

Alcoholic ex-cop and ne'er do well finds a dead girl, gets motivated to clean up, and takes on a pimp, a rich gun happy grand dad, and some assassins.

Had the same feel as a Tarantino film at times. Reminded me of something Todd would enjoy.

Side note - Collins is Clint Eastwood's son in law. Enjoyable actor in his own right.

I just rewatched Thor: Ragnarok. I liked the movie less the second time. Too many of the jokes do not really land as well the second time. Though the movie still makes me like Thor a lot and I hope there is a Thor 4. Ragnarok and Infinity War made really respect Thor as a hero. The fact that he was able to endure the worst 4 days anyone has ever had to endure and still be heroic, just makes me like the character even more.

I like the movie still. Just not as much. Just moves it from an upper Tier 1 movie to a lower Tier 1 movie.

I have three Tiers for Marvel movies. Tier 1 are the movies I love a lot (Civil War) or the experience was so great that I don't care how good the movie actually holds up (Avengers). Tier 2 are the movies that I enjoy, (Antman). Tier 3 are fine, they would have feen awesome in the early 2000s, but I expect better now (the other Thor movies)

Agree on T:R. Watched it again on Netflix yesterday. Most of the jokes were meh on 2nd run, and I really hated the way they handled the Valkyrie as well. She didn't come across as jaded and disillusioned, but more as a stupid Hollywood cliche. Hated her drunken intro and her white costume and acting.

Helmsworth does own that role tho, like Ruffalo now does Banner/Hulk, or RDJ owns Stark. Thor has changed as well in his character since the first 2 stand alone movies. A lot of that is Helmsworth's taking more charge and putting a lot of humor into it. I can also appreciate that he's put on 30 lbs of muscle.

I'd also forgotten that the ending of Ragnorak was the intro to Infinity Wars. Again, my biggest complaint with Thor is that he is Rocky... and I hated Hela ripping his eye out and her repeatedly harping on needing to be reminded what he was the God of... you'd have thought he'd have put that together on his own, especially after he blew up Hulk in the arena after that beat down...

Nope. Wanted to see Lebowski when it was in theatres, but I was in college, with no car, in a town where you had to have a car to do anything. Never got around to seeing it on DVD, and the desire passed. None of the others had the slightest interest to me.

I saw The Incredibles 2 with my family yesterday. It was very good, but not great. And unlike many other animated movies (Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Despicible Me), in this case the second one is not better than the first. But there were a lot of laughs, a lot of action, it kept my kids focused the entire two hours, and the family stuff was terrific. As a parent, and especially as a stay at home dad, it was really enjoyable.

However, it was also fairly predictible, and none of the new characters were very good. I pegged the villain almost immediately, which was absolutely not the case in the first one. I also felt that most of the members of the Parr family had actually progressed too much, given that the film takes place essentially immediately following the events of the first one. Had they said that the majority of the movie took place two years later, it would have all fit really well. However, then they couldn't have left Jack Jack as an infant, which I'm sure was a priority.

If you liked the first one, and if you have kids, I highly recommend it. However, its not the best animated movie that I've seen in the last few years. Looking forward to Wreck It Ralph 2 a lot more.

Antman and the Wasp. Marvel, 20 for 20 in not making duds. A perfectly fine movie that was very enjoyable. I loved how it wasn't city/earth/universe on the line. A close personal story. I do not think it is going to blow anyone away, however, if you want a fun movie after Infinity War, this is the cool light dessert after an intensely spicey dinner.

It is a movie that gets worse the more I think about it. I left thinking, "At least it wasn't as miserable as BvS or MoS." Then I was like, "Wait a minute? Why did they introduce the characters three times at the beginning of the movie? And many other questions on how dumb the movie was.

I enjoyed it. As you said, not the best MCU movie, but they can't all be a 9/10. Fun, and well done within its own sphere. They made me care about the characters and gave them depth, and their own humor. Marvel is really good at that, which is amazing given how many different franchises they have inhabiting the same universe.
