Hyde talks about the validity of criticisms and backhanded comments made known by some of Ryan’s former teammates..

There are a few things in play for me personally, and it goes way back early in his career with some of his weaknesses, I stated early that leadership would be a struggle for him, his personality was such that I didn’t think he would be that guy that would fire up his teammates and that he would have to learn how to lead.Ive seen some improvement over the years but it’s been expectedly slow, I thought he was the kind of guy where we would have to wait for seniority to reign down on him..

Well that day has come, there are no more personalities he has to worry about, and I really think that’s what he needed to happen to feel comfortable in that role..No one is Chad Pennington but it’s time to really lead, I feel like he’s finally comfortable in his own skin so I look forward to seeing better intangibles.

I feel like the speed of the game was a factor against him over the years, I saw some encouraging signs recently so that should improve, always learning new stuff doesn’t help, but some of it is on him..We saw evidence the last time he was in the field, I’m confident it will be better.

Overall movement speed (set up, arm and shoulder deeks, and anticipation in navigating the pocket), this to me will be the bottom line as far as him leading us to a championship, I feel qbs in big games have to make subtle quick moves to evade rushers to reset and deliver, this is a weakness imo of him, it has gotten better but we need to see quicker better movement here in this regard.

I think there has to be a conscious decision by him to figure out what he’s going to do when he feels pressure bearing down, I feel like he wants to stand in and take the hit most of the time, well, I would like him to not do that all the time, when protection breaks down I would like him to anticipate that earlier in the process and make a athletic move..actually incorporate a little backyard style into his repertoire..I think we need it to have success as a team and I think it will help him defeat the defense during the game.

And run when a lane opens up, show the defense they cannot turn their back on you, I don’t care if there is a receiver open, show the defense they have to respect this element, do it twice in a row if they don’t adjust..Just show me your aware of its importance.

I feel like the coaches are on the same page for those last two points.

I’m excited for our team, I think Ryan is in a good place, I think there were selfish personalities bringing this team down over the years, and we needed to flush that sh## out.

I have always believed Ryan can take us to the playoffs, but I want more, I want a dynasty, I want to feel confident if we have to go on the road, in a hostile environment, we have the qb who can lead, get our players hyped up pregame, and keep that energy high during games, blocking out the noise and eyes, and just be a little chad Pennington.I need him to make plays, I need him to understand it’s ok to go off schedule..

Fu## all these morons who don’t understand our team, The rock has the potential to be something we haven’t had in a very long time, I believe we have the right coach, we’ve got some nice young talent now, So let’s shock the world shall we.

He's always been learning. New coaches, new offense, new Knee. Not until he practices/plays as if he OWNs it, will he lead. Instead he's just one of the other players trying to figure it out.

It all seems to have set up for Ryan, the former big twelve thousand yard receiver is in unprecedented territory..to my recollection no one has ever made this type of transition..

Just need everything to be a little quicker, and lead with little more energy, a chip on the shoulder would be welcome :)

He’s never going to be the spiritual leader he’s just not got that personalility from everything I’ve seen of him. He doesn’t have that fire that Marino, Brady, Peyton had.

He can be an effective influence but I don’t think he will be the leader they want him to be.

I will continue to maintain he’s a high level franchise qb until the tape tells me different.

    Period.

I wonder if sitting on the sidelines and watching has helped him. Sometimes being able to see it from a different perspective actually helps your game.

I have huge respect for Tanny for the fact he took a FN beating in many, many games. Not sure how he got up from some of those hits. Say what you want about him but never question his heart.

I want this to be the year he takes the fins to the playoffs, makes the pro bowl, etc. I want it for the team, but I want it so bad for RT17. He has put up with so much on this team. So many hits. So many sacks. I would love for him to just ball out this year and make the media critique him on his lack of superbowl wins or something.

What I really hope doesn't happen: We cut him after he has another middling year, he goes to the Patriots after Brady retires, and destroys our high first round quarterbacked team year-after-year.

Tannehill became a franchise QB his third year. Unfortunately for him it took the rest of the offense a few more years to catch up. If the influx of new blood on the offensive line turns into a good offensive line (and I really think it might) Tannehill is going to rip up the league this year. We may have to wait till week five or so before all the new blood is on the same page but once it clicks we are going to be a top ten offense.

Thank God for Gase also. Him getting rid of all the players that didn't buy into his philosophy regardless of talent is the sign of a great coach. Parcels did the same thing after his rookie year. He said if he was going to get fired he would get fired playing his style of football with his type of players. Gase came to the same conclusion and will be rewarded for doing so.

This is the year we will see how stupid the sports media is with its predictions of disaster for our team. I think we have a chance to dethrone the patriots if we can get by the learning curve of the first four weeks with a record of two and two minimum.

I think tannehill will be rewarded comeback player of the year if they still give out that award. Just pray for health for our team. Only injuries can derail us

The national media hates RT so much that he would need to win SB MVP before he would get come back player of the year

He'd likely have to win 2 Super Bowls and at least 1 MVP for the media to consider Tannehill an upper-echelon QB.

The "mediocre QB" narrative has already been written, it's going to be really hard to shake off.

Naw, I call bull**** on that one- just look at Philly. Foles was a washed up has been that never really mattered in the first place, and all of a sudden the media paints him as superman off of a handful of very good playoff games where he was nothing more than a game manager.

Not that I'm trying to discredit Foles here- the exact opposite is true. With today's "I told you so" media the facts clearly don't matter, and a small win streak is all that it takes for the talking heads to proclaim Tannehill as the next Marino. We've seen it far too many times already with Matt Ryan, Favre, Brees, etc...these were bums that suddenly overnight became football heroes once the media had a clue. And the very same will happen with Tannehill after our first playoff win...or possibly even after our first NE sweep. Even the biggest haters will be all hearts and smiley faces claiming that they knew all along he was elite.

Now, there's a much easier solution here.....just adopt the mentality of "screw the media." We follow them these days for news and developments, not real journalism, so their opinions generally don't matter in the least unless they're recommending somewhere to eat or a hotel to stay at. But as far as how I should feel about our players or our team- I really don't need a talking head for that.

Remember, this is the same media who told Kevin Durant he ruined basketball by joining an already powerful Warriors team. Yet those same media idiots are already speculating how insanely good they'll be if LeBron joins as well- can you find even a tiny sliver of logic there? Of course not because there isn't any....they're just making noise so you'll pay attention.

Realistically speaking.. (at least in my mind).. I'd say either one season with passing stats as good as Matt Ryan's or Tom Brady's in 2016, or two consecutive seasons with 100+ ratings would be enough for the national media to proclaim Tannehill as an emerging upper tier QB.

The media per se isn't the problem. Produce and the narratives will follow.

It is very hard to change first impressions.

I truly believe Tannehill would have a better reputation if he was drafted in any other year. If his main competition was Ponder, Blaine Gabbert, and Locker with Cam Newton going #1, then he would be thought of as a player on the cusp.

Since Tannehill is in a loaded draft class where multiple quarterbacks have success and everyone is already putting two of them in the HoF, he is seen as a disappointment.

Not sure if this will catch on, but Bobby McCain was on The Audible last week. He said that the defense wants to make it so "teams don't want to come down to South Florida and play in the hot box".

its a damn good feeling knowing we have a chance to have something real as far as a home field advantage that just doesn't involve the heat..that old morgue was the true hotbox, but still the worst home field advantage in the game as far as energy goes..

bottom line Ryan needs to deal with pressure better..imo, that way should be, anticipating the rush quicker and making moves.

Winning will solve the energy problem. We start the season 4 - 0, with that fourth game a trouncing of NE, there will be so much energy at the Rock it'll be crazy.

On the subject of leadership, no one should listen to Mike Pouncey.

Not sure how Pouncey could ever be a leader when he either consistently missed half of the season or doesn't take any practice snaps throughout the week to play the entire year

Marino was the master at evading the rush with subtle movements in the pocket - not easy to learn if you don't have that 6th sense. If the line is less of a turnstile, RT might be more confident to not be worrying about the rush so much, so may be able to use this 6th sense

I like your optimism. I believe it is well founded. This years team will be something to behold.
