You can't switch between them during the game. You choose one at the beginning and that's it, you're locked in for the rest of the game. There also appears to be multiple endings. So basically, "screw the canon." I've long suspected AC Origins is a soft reboot, and I think AC Odyssey just confirmed it for me.

Mainly what bugs me is that the series' writing has now gotten so mushy and ambiguous that the generic choose-your-protagonist-it's-still-the-same-game means that the series is no longer what I fell in love with while playing AC1 and AC2. We don't get character arcs anymore, we get avatars who spew feisty one liners and are then forgotten when it's time to move on to the next game.

I'm still going to play it, because I've wanted Ancient Greece as a setting for a while now. But the AC games are clearly no longer trying to be AC. They've outright said they've turned it into an RPG. This stuff is more like Witcher 3 than AC.

Kojima's been teasing this game for 3 years and the only gameplay we've seen is field traversal interspersed with needless cutscenes about toenails.

Death Stranding is going to bomb.

I'm on board with many of your points. I wish that the series that you and I both started back in 2007 hadn't veered off course after the Enzio games. Its not continued the way that I wanted it to. However that being said, the type of game that Odyssey looks to be is very appealing on its own, and it and Origins will end up being the only two new non-sports or Lego games I'll playing over about a year's time, so I'm looking forward to the experience.

the Sony press conference was so badly managed. What's the point of a separate venue for TLoU2 ? The conference was 33 minutes in before the intermission was over and they started to roll the rest of the show. At least we got lots of game play trailers and not many awkward developer talks.

FO76 going online only seems to be the same thing Blizzard did with Diablo 3 to deter cheating and other 3rd party mods. Modding is such a huge thing for Fallout/Elder Scrolls and it looks like this is Bethesda's attempt at monetizing it. They already have all the infrastructure in place for people to "buy" mods and also content creators to get the mods onto the market place, now the final step is to force players to obtain mods the "official" way.

As an offline only PS4 gamer, the whole business with mods is beyond me anyways. I only play the game the official way to begin with. :confused2:

Looks amazing and pretty much exactly what I was hoping for..leave it to CDPR to take a dig at these other big publishers about micro transactions (taking a look at you now Bethesda) I’ll certainly do everything I can to support them (pre order etc).

i can´t believe its finally happening again, everytime EA Sports posted something on Facebook regarding a new Madden release the last 3-5 years i always replied "BRING BACK MADDEN TO PC" lol...it finally worked...you are all welcome

One more question, will this game on PC only be available via Digital Download or will there be releases of the game like on DVD or maybe even Blu Ray ?

Fairly sure it's digital only. Even the boxed version of EA games usually just contain a download code.

Maybe change a few minds...might be worth giving it a shot even if first person wouldn’t be your #1 choice (it’s not mine)...I can’t wait for this ducking game!

I just cannot manage to play games from the first person perspective. It feels so rigid and robotic, and I end up getting stuck looking at the ground while the enemies kill me unseen. I sucked at it as a teenager and twentysomething, and I'm certainly not likely to get any better in my 40s. I've messed around with it in Skyrim and Fallout after I was done being serious with the games, and even then as an overpowered character it was a disaster. Just too foreign and clumbsy.

I can also tell you that CDPR has squandered a huge amount of goodwill with the gaming public with this choice. Many, many people like myself have gone from having the game at the top of our list, to now having little to no interest. Its difficult to quantify right now, but they've likely cost themselves a large chunk of sales by not putting in the option to play in third person.

Had the game been something akin to Mass Effect style, like I expected, I'd be counting down the days till release, and maybe even preordering, which I haven't done in years. But now, no way. I'm going to hope that they eventually patch it in, and then if they do I'll buy it later on.

Also, between Cyberpunk doing what they've done and Fallout 76 and Anthem being online only, Ubisoft is looking really smart making the changes that they have to cater to the traditional single player, third person, offline RPG gamer. AC: Osyssey is the only game like that on the radar coming up for a long time. Bethesda has said that both of their next titles won't be out until after the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft are on the market, Sony is likely holding back the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn as a PS5 launch title, Bioware is likely not going to have Dragon Age 4 out until then, and who knows what's going on with Square and the FF series.

Unless someone else has something lurking that will be announced later on, the AC games are now filling an otherwise huge void in the market, and will likely do even better than they otherwise would because of that.

I’m with you partner but I’m telling/pleading with you don’t write it off yet...they keep stressing it’s NOT a shooter but a first person RPG you can go after situations with combat or cyberwarfare or charm dialogue etc etc..the CDPR guy mentions in this interview that he isn’t any good at shooters but enjoys the combat very much. I think they have the smart weapons for guys like us who are not good at FPS.

    https://gamerant.com/cyberpunk-2077-why-first-person/

In this article, the author lists what CDPR told him as their excuses to make the game purely first person.

Sounds like they're more interested in forcing immersion that allowing gamers to play the game in their own way. This isn't unique to any studio, as I've been frustrated by similar things others have done, but I would much rather be given a lot more freedom to progress the way that I'm most comfortable. Generally, that means slowly and cautiously, taking my time, exploring and not using risky moves. The drugs and whatnot that they speak of hold no appeal to me, even in a fantasy video game. I never used that kind of thing in The Witcher or Fallout when it was available.

First person perspective makes perfect sense if the character is supposed to be representative or an avatar of the player. If the character is supposed to have their own personality or prewritten story, then third person is ideal. Not every game needs to vomit choices all over the player.

You totally disregard the fact that some people strongly prefer one or the other? I can't tell you how many people I've seen say that everyone should play the Bethesda games first person, but I have a great time playing them in third. Why limit your customer?

3rd Person Perspective vs 1st Person Perspective is reflected in level design. In 3PP rooms have to be larger and more spacious to accommodate the camera angle. So if you give the option to use either, you have to build it for 3PP which makes 1PP feel spaced out too much, like you're a child in a room built for adults. It's a subtle but noticeable difference.

Wouldn't 1st person also give options towards the VR end of things? I assume that may play a part as well.

I dont think they disregarded anyone but it seems they had to make a choice because making a game this huge and interactive and beautiful and diverse takes a ****ton of resources and some thing probably had to get axed like with any game (or we probably wouldn't be able to play it until 2077) it sound like this game is about more exploration and interacting/story telling than shooting...just because they made a great combat system (probably) doesn't mean you have to be able to twitch play to enjoy the game. CDPR are well aware that their fan base didn't want a pretty fps. In another video a guy mentions a militec bot pet the little one that is in a lot of the videos that you can trick out to fight for you...with things like that and the smart guns im guessing you could absolutely suck a fps and still kick *** in this game.

gameplay and some pics clips below.

I'll wait to read more articles, lol. No way I'm watching some dude talk to the camera for five minutes and trying to sort all of that out. I'll continue to monitor the game, but I'm just not nearly as excited for it as I would have been. It seems that CDPR wanted to go in a much different direction, and that's fine and their choice. So bet it. I'll continue to hope that someone else decides to do their best to make a Witcher 3 clone, because that's what I do want to play.

As long as you try to keep an open mind. Try to remember it’s not a shooter it’s and RPG from first person perspective...made by the best (imo) RPG developer of this generation.

I've honestly not even played a FPS since Doom and similar games in the mid 90s. My more recent FP experience has been dabbles into it with RPG style games, and I've hated every second, lol. But yes, I'll not totally write them off. Just now have a lack of enthusiasm, which I'll put towards other titles.

I haven't played a Dragon Quest game since it was Dragon Warrior on the NES, but this one checks off a whole laundry list of boxes in what I'm looking for in a game, so I'm going to keep a close eye on it and probably give it a shot.

Thank you. I don't game on my phone though. Far too small, and it has a cracked screen anyways. I need my 60" HDTV and the dual shock in my hands.
