I think Carpenter was a good pickup by the Dolphins, he has a strong leg and so far has been plenty accurate. Feely was a good kicker but Carpenter fits in with the youth movement and he has a stronger leg. I see Feely signed with the Chiefs by the way.
I like that Carpenter has been a football player as well as a kicker. We won't have to worry about him saying: "I keek a touchdown."
So far, unless I missed something, I haven't seen the stronger leg. I'm hoping that coaches don't want him to kick the ball into the end zone right now so they can get a feel for the other ST players.
I think most of the kickers that make it to the NFL have played real football positions in HS. Its like when you read the bios of many of the baseball players (American ones) in MLB most of them have a history of playing football or basketball and many times both. The reason they are in the NFL, even as a kicker, is because they are superior athletes as opposed to most us, who are not.
i wouldn't say he has a "strong" leg. The guy is giving other teams the ball on kickoffs AT the 20. How many touchbacks has he had? i'd say he has an accurate leg though, as evidenced by his field goals.
I try not to play with my heart in Fantasy Football leagues, but in my last draft I took Carpenter with my final pick!
I like him so far. Hopefully we start seeing those kickoffs going back into the endzone soon though. Pretty cool that he was a WR before too... maybe a nice weapon on a fake FG... he fakes the kick and goes deep. haha
