Right. And you can see that after one P/S game. P/S matters...even though the scores don't count.

Our DEs...allegedly a strength..LOL. Nothing last night. Ryan Fitzpatrick looked like Tom Brady.
Our DBs...allegedly a strength..LOLOLOLO...Not last night. Horrible. Every TE was open. Their #1 guy abused our "alleged" shut down corner. None of the corners any of the units was good. Cordrea, from my POV, horrible. Torry McTyer, worse.
Our DTs...Not supposed to be a strength...the played the way you'd expect--Very poorly.

On defense, nothing to feel good about or hang your hat on. This was a horrid performance against a pretty bad football team.

If you are worried about Tannehills health, you should be VERY WORRIED about Sam Young having to play. He was getting people killed last night. Not by Khalil Mack or Von Miller, but some second year guy from Eastern Kentucky.

There were some bright spots on offense. Ballage looked good, other than that stupid fumble. Isaiah Ford looked good. Tannehill looked good, Kenny Stills looked good. Did we draft a TE? Allegedly deep at WR? Wouldn't know it.

I have commented on what I thought was disrespect by Vegas and Walter Football. I think, after watching that game (reminded me of Lucille Ball in the Chocolate Factory more than a football game) we are picking in the top five of the draft. Other than not having Cutler, nothing else really looked differently. Another year, same old same old.

I have to hand it to the fans in Miami. They arent fooled. No one showed up and for good reason. They know nothing has changed.

The good news...picking high in the draft is exciting for months.

At least on offense you can point to some bright spots. On defense, nothing. What is the record for the most points surrendered in a season? I think this defense is going to challenge that.

We might win some shoot outs...but this team is going to allow 430-450 points, unless there is MAJOR change and major improvement. Last night, vs a pretty bad team, the D was worse than bad. Whatever is synonymous with horrible, that was the Fins D last night.

Great analysis. And on every play, there was this same kind of confusion, lack of execution, wrong reads, wrong angles, blown assignments, blown coverages, etc.

I know Matt Burke won't be fired--Gase is far too stubborn and cocksure to do that--but he should be. Remember the year the Ravens won the SB, in midseason, Harbaugh fired Cam Cameron? And they went on to win the SB. Either promote someone from the staff or hire Joe Vitt, Gase's father in law. This defense right now is a s... show.

With respect, I disagree on Osweiller. Gase looks after his guys, but he wouldn’t be that stupid. Anyone could see that he couldn’t move the offense when he was in there. They need to cut him now if they want to evaluate the guys lining up with him.

To the "sky is falling" brigade after 1 preseason game, may I remind you the following:

Last season we actually played pretty well during the preseason and training camp, I remember a few beat writers were touting Jay Cutler and suggesting he was going to be an upgrade over Tannehill... result: 6-10

2016: we were slow to start the season, people were calling for Gase and Tannehill's head, then we won 7 straight and made the playoffs.

2015: we had that joint practice with the Panthers and our DL whooped their OL, they couldn't do anything against our starters. Fast foward to the end of the season, Panthers are in the Super Bowl and we fired our coaching staff.

Point is... no, Pre-season doesn't indicate what the season is going to be like. It gives you an idea of how certain players are performing and what they can improve on, that's mostly it.

Things can change very quickly in this league, let's give the team some time before judging.

Exactly. I have been watching preseason for over 20 years. I have seen teams look amazing during preseason and suck during the regular season. I have seen teams look awful in preseason and win super bowls.

Preseason does have value, however, to use that as the basis of expectation is a little over the top. A lot of veterans #1 goal in preseason is to not get hurt.

The defense is pretty generic in preseason. If you know it will be Cover 2, you can plan your offense around that. If things look really bad in preseason game three, then some concern would be valid.

That said, I'd give Fales all the backup reps and let Oz walk sooner rather than later. We get to the playoffs with Tanny this year OR we crash and burn through the season and pick a franchise QB in the 2019 draft.

533 by the Baltimore Colts in 1981. We're not anywhere that bad lol. That comes out to 33.3 points allowed per game.

However.. if you go by "per game" metric (including 14 game seasons), then the worst ever in the SB era was in 1966 with the NY Giants allowing 501 points in 14 games = 35.79 ppg!

Here's some extra trivia: the year where the worst defense gave up the fewest ppg of all "worst defenses" in NFL history was 1993 where the Atlanta Falcons had the worst defense but gave up only 385 points in a 16 games season = 24.1 ppg. For comparison, there were 6 teams worse than that last year.

The Cleveland Browns. 4-0 2016 Preseason, didn't win a regular season game. 4-0 2017 Preseason won one reg season game. 1-0 so far this preseason. Still the Browns.

Nowhere near an analysis, just some general comments/questions about some highlights. I won't be able to watch anything in it's entirety til tomorrow morning.

I just have to laugh at all the "sky is falling" people. The Dolphins may only win 1 game this year....or....they may win 14. If a person is usinf the 1st game of preseason for anything other than rookie individual play and assignment responsibility success they will always be unhappy. How many of our starters didn't play? How many reps did those who did play have?

Here is a stat that may make some of you feel better:

From 2005-14, the 18 teams who didn’t lose in the preseason combined to post a regular-season record of 130-158.

    Here's a good article:

Your statement seems to imply that "winning" in the preseason doesn't translate or even correlate to winning in the regular season. If that is your point, the only response to that would be "duh". The final score doesn't count. However, the play matters. Not being able to stop the run, it matters. Not being able to cover WRs, it matters. Not being able to protect the passer, it matters. Being sluggish, unenthused, lethargic, and sloppy, it matters.

So if you took from the critical comments, "the sky is falling", you got the wrong message. You should have taken a more accurate, "we were sloppy and crappy last year, and in the only game we've seen this year, we were the SAME kind of sloppy and crappy." Do you see the difference?

    I hope this helps.

But thanks for the W/L record of undefeated teams for those ten years. Very informative.

Trying to draw conclusions about the starting units off of the play of second and third stringers is pointless.

Not really. Very few guys, (read, only those players on the bubble) are really giving 100%. Most of these guys are equally trying to stay healthy and make the team.

If the Dolphins look bad in Preseason game #3 (if the rule holds that starters play most of the game) then I will start getting concerned. I mean, we are talking about the Dolphins so I do keep my optimism in check, but so far there is no reason to suspect they will be a bad team.
