I don’t care about the fast-paced, dink and dunk in the first quarter. I believe the gameplan was to tire their line and then open it up in the second quarter. It could have worked.

The penalties really took away nice plays. Btw, BS holding call on Tunsil in the red zone, which was a nice pass to Drake from Tannehill that got inside the 1-yard line. Delay of game in the red zone should NEVER happen.
    __________

    QUICK HITS:

    - Tannehill looked sharp on his throws, although a little slow of foot at times.
    - A little concerned with the D-line and LBs on running plays. I can see the rollover from Joseph’s D (feast or famine kind of D)
    - Need to find the starters at LB and fast. On a handful of plays, McMillan was late in reacting. This is essentially his first year, so we may have some growing pains.
    - D-line’s aggression gets the better of them at times. No real anchor/space eater in this game. Good pursuit to the QB.
    - C #67 gets manhandled way too much for my liking, even at 2nd level
    - Lot of blitzing
    - The cross TD by their TE should not have happened. We tried to confuse on the blitz look, and LBs ended up being confused themselves. Looked like McMillan got caught in the fray and then took a super bad angle in pursuit. Why are three guys essentially covering one receiver on one side of the field??
    - K seems fine
    - Osweiler is tall.....and still sorry.
    - A little concerned about Tunsil
    - TE Gesicki needs WORK on blocking. Looked lost on a couple of plays. He’s not a natural.

These are just jotted down thoughts as I am watching the game. My eyes might change when I have time to rewind and discern.

Yup, that Osweiler sure is tall all right. It's good that you started there with the kindest possible thing to say about him. =)

I saw Tunsil struggling as well, which makes it unfortunate that we brought in two veteran guards and a center. He had a great rookie year at guard and he's currently the weak point on this line out at LT. I don't know if you move him down to G and try to nab a starting tackle in free agency, or you try starting someone else the next few weeks. He sure doesn't look like a long-term answer though.

In regards to Tannehill's footwork, I personally thought it was pretty good. I think he's improving on his pocket mobility, seems to be stepping up at the right times... a couple of plays even reminded me of Jay Cutler in the pocket (whose lone strength last season was probably his ability to avoid sacks and move around in the pocket).

Here are some instances of what I'm talking about:

Watched Gase's press conference after the game and he said that the one pass to Grant that looked like miscommunication was actually on Tannehill. Gase seemed to be upset about the dealy of game as well, which falls on RT.

I would've liked to seem a couple more deep ball shots and passes to Gesicki, but I guess they're saving that for the regular season.

Overall, I think our 1st team offense showed good signs against a good defense, but we need to fix the penalties.

I think we should be worried about the LB's and DT's, but, save for that one long McCaffery run, they actually played better than I expected. Quinn might be a good surprise this coming season, pretty excited about what he will bring to the table.

I was merely talking about his foot speed. Not footwork in general.

His “footwork” seems fine. His foot speed seemed on the slower side (on a few plays I noticed). First impression stuff, anyway. Haven’t gone back for a deeper review.
