I know a lot of you didn't get the game live tonight, so I won't reference the score or any particular plays. This is just my general thoughts on our depth chart and improvements-

    - Tannehill played all but the final series of the first half and his stat-line will look impressive. I was pretty frustrated though because only a few passes went past a few yards in the air. He looked sharp but at the same time, we really weren't attacking the field at all.

    - I know it's preseason, but Gase was WAY too conservative tonight. We actually had a drive where we threw screen passes on 1st, 2nd and 3rd down....and the first two were the identical play in the identical formation.

    - Likewise, it seemed like every time we got a holding penalty or fell into bad down/yardage, Gase would run up the middle on the following play. Several 3rd downs were wasted as well with short passes and hoping the receiver would outrun someone and make others miss. In short, we treated every receiver like their name was Jarvis Landry and it pissed me off.

    - One more gripe- we brought in Osweiler with about a minute left in the half. Why not let Tannehill try to end the half on a high note attacking the field? I didn't understand this move at all.

    - Osweiler did look better than last week, but he was still not impressive.

    - On defense, we made contact with the QB/ball carrier behind the LOS on four of the first seven plays....then some really nice sacks shortly after that. I can't say more without giving anything away- I'll just add that tackling and over-pursuit was a problem at times.

    - The defense was blitzing from everywhere tonight and generating excellent pressure from all kinds of angles and formations...even on 2nd and 3rd team.

    - Baker had an okay game; nowhere near as solid as week 1 though. Fitz wasn't a factor in coverage due to the pressures, so I'll have to watch a 2nd time to comment more on him.

    Players to watch-

    Tannehill
    Hayes
    Howard
    Perry
    Grant as a WR1

    Other thoughts

    - If you watch the Panthers broadcast coverage, the announcers confuse Grant and Drake practically the whole first half. So know that Grant was not playing RB and Drake was not lined up on the outside.

    - We played no-huddle most of the first half...which is great. But the plays were so conservative it sort of defeated the purpose.

I was mad at Gase tonight for going so vanilla and giving up on several 1st half drives. I know the goal was for RT to build confidence and I know we didn't have Parker and Stills, but I would have been really angry if I went to the game tonight (I almost bought tickets last-minute).

As we've discussed in other threads this week, there was a point last year where I changed from being a massive Landry fan to being more on the fence. I think that's what happened tonight for me with Adam Gase- I am officially skeptical of him calling the plays. Hopefully my feelings are without merit and this was just a situational thing....but I can't shake the feeling that RT could have threw for 4 or 5 TD's tonight if given the chance. I guess I'm just very tired of waiting and expect to see a lot more in the week 3 pre-season game.

That happened to me last year, and it wasn't just the play calling. It was how he stuck with Cutler no matter how bad he was. Gase even said the problem wasn't Jay. Uhh.. yes it was.

Anyway, have to give people a chance, but this year is it for me with Gase. I'm not willing to give the guy more years if he doesn't pull off a winning record.

Oh.. and yeah I agree with most of what you wrote.

What’s funny they didn’t target our stud Rookie TE once. Bad drives again ending in 3 points nothing funny about his style

There were throws to the TE. One nice catch by Derby was nullified by a phantom OPI call. Smythe caught one later in the game too.

What I'm seeing on the field and what I'm hearing from the coach doesn't add up. Gase said he thought the O-line was going to be a strength on this offense, but the play calling looked like it was trying to cover up a struggling unit up front. Maybe he was just being overly vanilla for preseason, but it felt like a lack of confidence in them.

As for the defense, its going to be a bad year if we can't get the offense humming. It looks like they can play like an above average Defense if we are playing with a lead. I think we drop to below average if the other team has the option to ground it out.

    So CAL
after watching it it looked like the same old Gase offense, but then i gave him the benefit of doubt being pre season game 2 with RT coming off injury it looked to me like he wasn't trying to put RT in any situation to get hurt, i did think RT arm looked strong, i liked Grant at #1 i will wait until it counts to actually get mad at Gase if this continues week 1 we are in trouble lol

I am most concerned with the Defense, particularly the run defense. They just look bad. The play calling on offense concerns me but I think its because they don't want to show anything at all in the preseason, why else would not target Gesicki at all. Every play I've seen him on the field he was blocking, not that he doesn't need the practice, but he must have gone out on a route sometime.

I was concerned with the defense again, especially LB play again. Raekwon looked slow and bloated to me. Hopefully he is knocking the rust off. Minkah needs to play FS I have no doubt he is going to be a very good player for us. we will just have to take our chances with Tank, Lippet, Mctyer or whoever opposite X. Howard.
Good to see Quinn getting after the QB.
I sure hope I am wrong but Charles Harris does nothing for me.
I think we will use Gesicki a lot on the red zone in regular season, and I think Smythe has the chance to be a player as well.
I wouldn't mind seeing Gore get some run Saturday, I expect Kilgore and Sitton to really improve O line play this season.
Wish we would have just kept Parkey and not had a kicking comp with two unknowns (I know both were fine against Carolina)
