Hope we can keep Ford on practice squad, but another team will likely scoop him up.

imo there wasnt a 6th receiver that came close to threatening the #5, hence why there is no 6th..

    Gesicki is the 6th anyways.

Yeah, but I don't personally see 5 with Grant in the concussion protocol and Parker always hurt with something. I have faith in Stills staying healthy but I know little about Wilson or Amendola's history.....it scares me going with just these five.

I agree with others though; that's a super versatile group with tons of speed. I hate the idea of the screen game with them though because these guys aren't Landry-tough when it comes to getting lit up.

I’m sure they will stash one of these receivers on the practice squad so if someone gets hurt they can bring him up the following week.

I'm hoping we can stash Ford. While not a better athlete, I think he's a better WR than Parker. I would have been happy if we'd heard that Parker was traded and that our 5 were Stills, Amendola, Wilson, Grant and Ford. And from what we've heard Grant doesn't have any symptoms and is expected to be out of the concussion protocol soon.

Seems like every year there are 1-2 WRs specifically that many on this forum falls in love with that inevitably get cut. I always get a chuckle when camp rolls along and we start hearing about WR7 turning heads and making plays.

Ugh Carroo though, so frustrating, what a huge draft blunder.

I was more on about the enormous draft cost we paid some random mid round WR, who as it turns out, isn't very good. Went against absolutely all draft logic - the kind of move an 11 year old should be able to easily avoid.

This is going to be a fragile WR corp that is NEVER all healthy at the same time. A group with a lot of talent, but I'm hoping Gesicki can take up most of the slack as needed. If we can avoid having more than one guy out at a time, the offense should be pretty good.

Well, we did get Carroo and Ford on the practice team....which is the best of both worlds as long as NE doesn't sign one of them in week three. I didn't think Ford would clear waivers to be honest.

Just a shame were still stuck with Parker. Unless he suddenly develops some toughness to his play he will continue to disappoint.

Loved Parker in the draft stood by him learning the system and becoming a staple of the offense. This is his year to make or break if he get injured or doesn’t break out like a real stud we n Ed to move on if we can.

It's so hard to tell what's going on upstairs with these guys. Parker seems satisfied. He got a nice payday as a 1st rounder and just doesn't have the WANT TO the better producers have. Imagine if Parker had the fire Jakeem Grant does.

I think a lot of folks overthink that aspect of football- it's important to remember that these are 23 year old kids basically that haven't had a job in their entire life. They were natural stars in high school and got with the conditioning program in college, but still had many luxuries other students didn't have (slack with classes, etc.). Now thy're in the NFL and we expect them to be "business professionals" that dedicate every moment to getting better....all the while giving them a six or seven figure check after they've been broke their whole lives. If that was me at 23, I'd be in a Ferrari and chasing girls every free second.

I'm not trying to make an excuse for Parker at all- I just think it's important to realize that some players take longer to really "get it" in terms of being a professional. The locker room was toxic last season and it's the main reason we made the moves we did, so the young guys will have an Amendola around to say, "Look, that's not how we do things at this level." That's why you want a hard working veteran player in every meeting room.

I said all that to say this- don't give up on Parker just yet. He still has to figure out the toughest part of the game, being a real pro, and we may just see that guy emerge this season. It wasn't going to happen last year with the Cutler/Landry show but that doesn't mean we can't see it in 2018.

I think he has some excellent tools to work with and hope it all comes together this year for him. We could really use him if he is playing at a high level. I wouldn't say I have given up on him, but at the same time I don't hold out much hope either. It's kind of how I feel about the Dolphins, too. Sadly, I think it sort of boarders on apathy. I want to be excited, but right now, I seem to lack the energy. Maybe after this Sunday, my enthusiasm will come back. :-)

I completely get that- I pretty much feel the same way. I'm confident on the year overall but very un-confident about how we'll play the first few weeks. We could destroy the Titans....or we could get destroyed. I have no idea and really nothing to base an opinion on.

I guess I feel different this year because if we're a 4-12 team like the media expects, that means we're completely overhauling the team from the head coach down. That means no more Tannehill, no Stills, no Jones, Gase, etc. as they become cap hits or write-offs. Probably no Wake either one way or another. And I dread even thinking about that since I'm hardly ever a negative person. So I believe that they'll turn it around fast and this HAS TO BE the year it happens...I'm just not optimistic that the offense will be completely ready in six days.

To me, you summed things up perfectly with the above statement. I know there is a certain amount of uncertainty with football. That's why we love the game. Any given Sunday, right? However, with us, it's not only uncertainty, but it's inconsistency. The bane of all so-so teams and players. That said. We all know it's only game one. If we lose, it's not the end of the world. We only have up to go. My hope is we come out with energy and fight to the end. Nothing pisses me off more than when a team comes out flat. Oops. I guess I should say when my team comes out flat. The Titans can come out flat all they want. ;-)

Isn't "the enormous draft cost we paid some random mid round WR" a contradiction in terms, or at least hyperbole?

I don't think so. We gave up a 3rd, 4th, and a 6th to take him in the 3rd. So far he hasn't even proven to be worth the 6th. This is a perfect example of what the Dolphins (in the past) did to shoot themselves in the foot. We have done a lot better the last few years, and I hope dumb decisions like this are a thing of the past. But I wouldn't play down just how bad this decision was at the time. Remember we were talent starved and needed those draft picks to help catch up with the rest of the league. Even if Caroo was a mild success you could argue that we needed too much talent to lose that 4th rd pick. With him being a bust it was just inexcusable.

When you give up a third round pick to get a third round pick it is more of a wash then anything else.

NFL draft picks have about a 50/50 chance of making it onto a team. Many of them don't stick. Saying his pick is a bust ignores the fact that he is still on the practice squad. Not a great success, but until he is off the team he is not a bust. Claiming that "With him being a bust it was just inexcusable" is the worst kind of hyperbole and that, in my opinion, is inexcusable.

Even first round picks have about a 50% failure rate where they don't stay in the NFL long enough to qualify for a pension.

Up until this last week, we had like 91% of the last 3 years of draft picks on the roster....which led the league. I am so tired of hearing about how we blew it on Carroo three freaking years ago when the recent drafts have been very strong overall. And to re-live this crap a few days before the season kickoff- that's the inexcusable part.

No because we surrendered several other picks to trade up and get him. If we just picked him on his own in round 3-4, whatever. Busts happen, and in the mid rounds it's not rare at all. But to trade that much in that position is draft idiocy. There is no logic in doing a trade up of that nature. The fact that he has largely sucked balls is just the icing on that **** cake.

In your response to me you somehow left out the ONLY part of the situation that I take issue with. If you gave up a 3rd rd pick for a 3rd rd pick and its a bust then its a bad decision, you get those from time to time, and nobody is going to scream for the front office's head. When you give up a 3rd 4th and 6th then it becomes a disaster pick.

And it is a busted draft pick even if the player is on the practice squad. If you had not picked him then you could have gotten another 3rd rd player AND sniped Caroo off of some other team's practice squad for no draft capital. This is pretty much the same thing as stocks, we paid high and are "potentially" selling low.

Your % failure rate doesn't really help the argument. If you believe that you are taking a 50/50 chance with caroo then why give up the extra draft picks? It would make more sense to take extra picks and better your odds of getting a true starter. The only reason to sacrifice other chances is if you believe you have a sure thing, or as close to it as possible, so you are betting against the statistical odds normally associated with the pick, to get your choice.

If you are somehow under the belief that the Caroo situation was a good transaction by us, then my guess is you have also championed all the decision this team has made over the last couple of decades. There is nothing wrong with that, you're a fan and are allowed to cheer them on in any way you see fit, but some of us are going to be a little more critical of what we perceive as a really bad decisions by the organization.

It may be hyperbole but it is accurate. He is a bust, he has managed to play his way off the team and is languishing on the practice squad and by this time next year he won't even be there. And yes the 3rd round picks are a wash but giving a 4th and a 6th as well was ridiculous. One thing this team has done fairly well is hitting on late round talent so you can consider that as well when you factor in the cost of this guy.

I'm guessing my tone must have come off wrong. I didn't think I was trying to brow beat my points into the general populace of the forums. I didn't think I posted enough to really make anyone have to "re-live" anything. But for the most part I have usually agreed with you Key so if you think I need to tone it down a little I will take that to heart.

To be clear on the Carroo deal, I believe the Dolphins swapped 2016 3rd round picks with the Vikings and gave up additional picks which included their 2016 6th round pick as well as their 2017 3rd and 4th round picks.

So the fact that Carroo ended up a bust meant that Miami got nothing from 4 picks:

    2016 - 3rd
    2016 - 6th
    2017 - 3rd
    2017 - 4th

Given the value of mid round selections in today's NFL, that is clearly not a meaningless investment by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes I was corrected on that as well, that extra third the following year was a back breaker .. the compensation for that player was a real bad look.. especially after you watched the guys film in college.

Yeah, in your defense I don't think very many people (including myself) realized for quite some time the investment we made with him when we traded up. And in our defense, there's little sense in having given up that much for that prospect. (I think we both know there's more to that story).

I watched him closely this off-season in hopes of seeing something good, but he just doesn't look like a player that ever took ownership over his opportunity in the NFL.

And that's the key. As I showed with my extensive thread on Parker, WRs from high rounds don't take that long to flash. Anyone who's anyone on that list of 1st rounders shows something special by their 2nd or 3rd year. Those guys don't always take ownership immediately but it usually doesn't take more than a year of falling down for them to find the inspiration.

That doesn't necessarily apply to a mid-rounder like Carroo, but I think we should've seen something by this point.

To me, this would've been a good year for Carroo to push forward. He absolutely should've been pushing for DeVante Parker's job given the circumstances but to this day Carroo looks rather pedestrian, like a player that gets drafted, makes a couple plays as a rookie but just never develops at all from that point.

I have to assume that's a lack of effort on his part.

That definitely wasn't aimed solely at you- people have been mad about Carroo for a very long time now. I was told that we actually moved up to grab someone else and their guy was grabbed the pick before, so that actual draft selection was almost doomed from the start. And it sucks that Carroo hasn't worked out, it really does, but a 3rd round pick not developing is fairly common. I guess my point is that it's not Carroo's fault we spent 3 picks on him- that's on the front office.

Don't ever think you shouldn't share something because you're new here though- that's what makes a community. A few others here have the opinion that all our drafts have been horrible though and it's just not true. We missed on a 3rd rounder there but picked up complete studs in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th....not too many teams can say that in ANY draft. That's why I think it's important to look at the entire picture and not just individual picks.

For instance, Tunsil was projected a top 3 pick and Howard was seen as a mid 1st round talent. The value there alone more than makes up for losing a 4th and a 6th....and we haven't even got to one of the most dynamic RB's in the league that we landed in the 3rd. Grant was also probably the steal of the draft in the 6th as well- he's our most efficient receiver by a landslide. Carroo struggling is hardly a blip on the radar considering the talent we pulled in and the overall value.

Agree completely. Trading up shows some pretty sincere conviction in a pick. I'm not going to hammer on, because everybody makes draft blunders, but to treat it as anything but a misstep or a "shwing anna miss" would be a little rose-colored.
