Safeties Renaldo Hill and Courtney Bryan, quarterback John Beck, tailback Patrick Cobbs, fullback Reagan Mauia, tight end Justin Peelle, receiver Greg Camarillo, offensive lineman Ikechuku Ndukwe, linebackers Edmond Miles and Rob Ninkovich, and defensive linemen Rodrique Wright and Paul Soliai are all on the shopping, or chopping block. Some, like Camarillo, Cobbs, Hill, and maybe even Peelle, Miles and Wright, might survive for now. But the way this regime plans to churn the roster this season it's probably wise for them to rent, and not buy. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2008/08/dolphins-list-e.html
At 72 players, that means we still have to cut 20 players. I have no problem with any of those players named being cut. And there is no real risk with putting anyone on the PS. I can't imagine anyone we put on the PS will be snapped up, but if they are, it won't be a big loss. Sosa is the only one I think would be in danger, and once the waiver wire pickups are through, we may even be able to upgrade above anything we could put on the PS anyway.
I would hate to see Peele go last season he showed so much more agility and skill to get downfield after the catch than Martin. I miss Ferrell Edmunds
Be VERY surprised if Ed Miles is whacked. Even more surprised if Paul Soliai is whacked. And staggered beyond belief if Patrick Cobbs gets the heave ho.
Ninkovich is a gamer, I hope that he sticks. I've been pulling for Quentin Moses, and he seems to have some really good tools to work with. But at the end of the day you've got to produce, and I don't see him doing much. Beck- boy, that's confusing. I'm beginning to think that maybe Joe Theissmann is right (what a painful admission) about Beck being scarred from last year. Too many fumbles, cases of the jitters, etc. But the thought of outright releasing him doesn't sit right with me. maybe we do keep four at QB until some team has a need and makes a decent offer for beck. Who knows.
I sure hope they don't put Bess on the practice squad, he will be grabbed by someone. The waiver wire will be real interesting as Ireland already has his shopping cart on isle #5 just waiting for the bargains to hit the shelf.
I think that Bess is safe. I wonder if anyone will snap up Jayson Foster if and when we stash him on the PS. Wilford- if he's been slow and unproductive almost from day one, I wonder if they cut him, take the hit and send a message to the team. It's nice to have a tall receiver on the team, but maybe they would have been better off drafting Marcus Monk in the 7th.
Not a chance in hell Soliai is cut. The guy is being rotated with the starters and backing up a guy in his mid 30s Bess is the #3 or #4 WR- it is unlikely he will be anywhere that isnt active on game day
You beat me to it. In the limited playing time he's had he's been around the ball and in the QB's face a BUNCH. Definitely a good back-up and I think he's made a play or two on ST also.
It would be outright wrong if Camarillo, Soliai and Ninkovich were let go. It would be tough to swallow if Peelle, Hill or Rod Wright were let go. The rest I can take or leave, but I don't think Cobbs is getting cut before someone like Hilliard.
The only ones I would not like to see cut would be highly underated renaldo Hill,Patrick Cobbs and Rodrique Wright . Of course I hope there is no serious thought of trading Ronnie .It seems he does not impress his coaches much in pre season judging from recent history but IMO he is a better all around back than Ricky . Losing Zach and JT in the same year is bad enough but trading Ronnie would make me question this regime.
I would not be upset if Mauia is cut.IMO he was a luxury pick and he is overated by many fans. Just because he can run through a drywall it doesnt mean he can run through defenders as was proved last Saturday where he was stopped stone cold by a smaller man. In addition he has stone hands
and it wasnt the first time ive seen him go down from one hit. grigsby fits us well, more athletic at the position, better hands, and i like his demeanor, tough sob
I think that Moses and Ninkovich will decide the last LB spot barring any one brought in from another team. Ninkovich has made plays, but I remember Parcells liking Moses' tools when he first took over. If Parcells and Ireland think they can develop him, I won't be surprised if he makes it over Ninkovich, even if Ninkovich has produced more in the preseason. Personally, I'm hoping Moses can be our version of Dallas' Kevin Burnett. A solid #3 OLB that can rush of the edge. If...or when I guess, Joey Porter leaves, I think Moses will get a chance to win the WOLB spot. I'd love to think he and Merling will be our starters in 2009, but that may be too wishful of thinking.
I'd pretty much agree. I think Omar Kelly is overstating things by coming to the conclusion that a number of those players may be on the wrong side of the chopping block just because they were on a 1-15 team.
It happens to be their position of greatest depth. That's the only reason why. Still it would be stupid since they can carry him and PS Dotson.
From what I remember, he's been ok. Nothing special but if he plays decent there's no reason not to keep him to eventually be the 5th man in the 3-4 DE rotation with Merling getting the bump to 3-4 DE starter.
I can't see Ninkovich, Cobbs and Soliai going anywhere. Ninkovich is the backup OLB for us and with Porter out, he may be more valuable to us. Soliai has really shaped up and has been impressive. He could eventually be our replacement for Ferguson. Cobbs has been running hard.
I can't see Ninkovich making it since they have four OLBs to carry and four ILBs with Merling providing a possible 5th whenever necessary and Torbor/Ayodele capable of playing OLB at certain times.

He was OK, never met him personally but he worked out with my brother back in the day a few times... I really miss Keith Jackson
All kidding aside Wright is the only one I object too.He has a lot of upside and he has produced. I like Cobb but recognize he is not one of Parcells guys.I wish Beck well but he has not helped his cause.I was hoping for a pick for him. On the plus side I am glad Hill is making the squad.
Just in cased it got looked over since it was the last post on the page: http://forums.thephins.com/showpost.php?p=309874&postcount=30
One of the few Rev who will get that reference. Thats my players name on the Goal Line Blitz Miami Perfection team.
I'd think practice squad for Dotson this year, then he becomes a rotational guy if Merling is fully converted to OLB next year and/or Vonnie Holliday is let go.
It depends on if there are any players they claim on waivers who are better. I think we will keep 25 defensive players. 7 DL, 8 LB and 10 DB. Right now, Ninkovich is one of the 8 best LBs on the roster IMO. Wright is easily the 7th DL and Sparano said when you get good DL you hang on to them. Wright's ability to play both the left and right side equally well, should help him. FWIW, we will also keep 25 offensive players IMO. 3 QBs, 5 OBs, 5 WRs, 3 TEs, and 9 OL. That leave 3 spots for the K, P and LS.
Omar is a doofus. If we cut everyone he mentions there would only be about 40 players left on the roster. While we may find a few guys on waivers worth claiming, I don't expect we will find 13 or so better than what we got.
That is absurd, Kelly should not post and hit the ganja, that is 1/3 of our Dline, and Beck being let go for -0- is crazy, ditto Cobbs and Camarillo. I suppose if those some of those players are cut, Omar will say "I told you so". Tool.
