Gotta disagree here, Key. Sure, you COULD claim that, but there is no argument to make that he is even close. I could claim that penguins can fly, but no matter how much I believe, it's not true. The same with the Marino isn't in the convo nonsense. It's a belief that is as valid as my penguin belief. Not all beliefs or opinions are equal my friend.

Sure, but we can prove penguins can't fly. You can also prove Marino's stats are much better than Rypien's, but then it comes right back to personal belief. Rypien was a Super Bowl MVP...how much is that worth in the grand scheme of things? We can't define that for everyone.

As far as the best all-time...there may have been a bunch of guys in the 60's and 70's that I never got to see play. I have no idea how good Joe Namath was and how that compares to Montana in the 90's. Are either of them top-5? Not in my book...but definitely in someone else's. So while I agree with you that Marino was one of the best ever, we can't make it true for everyone. Some like in my example will swear by Rypien, Cunningham, Favre or whoever their all-time favorite was.

Heck, Doug Williams threw 5 TD passes in his only SB appearance (in a single quarter!)...do you think any Skins fan would rank him below Marino? Of course not, because it all comes down to perspective.

I think "consensus" opinion matters. A few self important people's panties are wadded up because I said, "not in the conversation". On a Fins board, of course he is.

Just this weekend I was with a lot of Steelers and Saints fans at a family function--i posted the question...Marinos name didnt surface. If you dont believe me, visit other fans boards in stead of this isolated echo chamber...pose the question.

Or just call people stupid who disagree.

I think we're sort talking about different things though. I don't care what average fans think...they by and large don't know what they're talking about, and basing opinions on mass media that is shoved down our throats.

I could ask my 3 year old who the GOAT was and she'd probably say Barney. So what's your point?

All knowledgeable NFL experts/fans would say that Marino is "in the conversation". Of course not all would have him as the GOAT. But then again, you could ask 20 knowledgeable NFL experts/fans who the GOAT is and get 20 different answers. However, if I were to say that I thought Marino was the GOAT they wouldn't call me crazy or proclaim that he shouldn't even be considered as you have. They'd explain why they personally have "Blank QB name here" as the GOAT.

In short, you're not stupid for disagreeing. Hell, I don't agree that Marino is the GOAT, but he sure as hell is in the conversation. You're stupid because your opinion is just wrong. And before someone claims that opinions can't be wrong...yes then can. Opinions can be and are wrong all the time.

I've always been a trash-talker in real life and both my kids picked up that trait. My 17 year old was on the phone the other night in a group chat and I happened to be walking past her room when I heard her say, "Well, you're ugly and that's why Skittles can't cure cancer."

The chat went silent but I almost fell to the floor laughing. The moral of this story is that opinions can in fact be wrong. =)

  11. It is ok to call someone a moron when they say something stupid, especially when they say something that indicates they are borderline ******ed. In fact, I think this form of discourse should be used more often. In better times, when someone said something as dumb as what you said about Marino "not being in the conversation," those of us in the intelligentsia would be allowed to take you out behind the castle walls and feed your flabby body to the dragon. Alas today we must tolerate the mentally-insipid to walk among us and therefore we have institutions like the DMV and Dept. of Education that provide refuge for your kind. While your opinion puts you squarely in the group of village idiot, you do not need to fear being fed to the dragon or other medieval fate. But you will have to suffer being peppered on a Miami Dolphin forum that you are a deficient man that lacks intellectual vigor. Consider yourself lucky for not having to meet the dragon, it is one less thing that your ilk must fear, as pursuits such as physics, mathematics, complexity science, and econometrics already bring a sweat to your brow and race to your pulse similar to that which would be brought about by inserting a Carolina Reaper pepper into your rectum after two hours in a Greek bath house outside Athens. Good luck fellow human, we commend you for your efforts in this complicated and Darwinian world.
