This is a good thing, I hope. If he is healthy he's at least an upgrade and this is coming from someone who wanted to see Osweiler play. I do think that if by the end of the season he isnt clearly better than what we saw with Osweiler, a move has to be made.
Tannehill > Osweiler no question. The bigger question is can Tannehill lead this team to a playoff berth. We're 5-5 tied record-wise for the last WC spot so no excuses. No repeat of that total flop at the end of 2013 where we only needed to beat the Jets or Bills to make the playoffs and Tannehill crapped the bed. This is really a great test for both QB and coach. I hope I'm wrong about both and we make the playoffs 2 out of last 3 years!
We get Tannehill back, so that means"no excuses"? I don't understand this mentality. Are we getting three starters back on the oline? Are we getting Grant and Wilson back? Yes, I expect the offense to be more productive with Tannehill than Osweiler, but I'm not necessarily expecting that to translate into wins.
Dude.. the way I think there are no excuses whether you get Tannehill back or not. I've stuck to that same argument from season begin, namely that you either make the playoffs or we clean house. We each know our differing opinions on this issue so no need to recycle the debate.. just pointing out it's good to get Tannehill back so we have more sample size to evaluate Gase + Tannehill.
LOL If you're free to continue to say "No excuses," I think I'm free to disagree. If our team plane crashed and we lost all our starters, would you still insist that there are "no excuses" and we should clean house if we don't make the playoffs? I mean, it's a pretty unreasonable stance, imo.
I actually pointed out in Club that the only time I'd accept injury "excuses" is precisely when it is as severe as the Munich Air Disaster when Man U (one of the best soccer teams at the time) lost 8 players, many of them key starters. Took them a decade to rebuild. So it's not absolute lol.
Basically the way I see it, Tannehill is in a no lose position. As banged up as we are you can't blame him if we miss the playoffs but if we get into the playoffs he'll get all the credit
I agree. Some love Tannehill/Gase here and others hate them- now we get to let the football do the talking to see what the two are really made of. In my humble opinion, the goal should be finishing 5-1 or better...with the only acceptable loss @Minnesota. The other five are must win, career defining games.
That's been pretty much how a lot of people have felt for 7 years. You do not have to have the football aptitude of Bill Walsh to watch a game and be able to somewhat tell if the QB plays well or if he doesn't.
Some host on the NFL network just commented that Tannehills back for the Colts "cough cough" they lose by 20.. No respect i tell ya!
The Vegas line hasn't changed much in reaction to this news. I occasionally bet at sportsbook.ag and it's a 9 point spread advantage for Indy. That's only 1 point or so different from what I saw some time ago.
I actually think he ha a lot to lose with the balloon payment on his contract next year. He started 3-0 before getting hurt....that's great and all. But he also has to finish the season 3-0 to show that he's the guy we should be backing. I have no dog in this fight either way besides wanting to see us win, so hopefully he comes out there and plays lights-out to shock all of us.
Unless I missed it, I feel the need to point that according to the thread title, Tanny has been named the starter for the Colts! Does that mean we get Luck?
I can’t believe Miami started 3-0 with the offense playing.....less than stellar. Really going to miss Wilson. Hope Jakeem is healthier. I think I read somewhere that Parker is, per usual, injured. Luck is starting to game a little. He’s quietly been playing lights out the past several games. Going to be a tough one.
For tannehill yes but for gase he is going nowhere playoffs or not.Ross loves him and the injury excuse will work in his favor. The real question is will the Grier and tannenbaum survive if they don't make the playoffs.
^^^THIS^^^ This is a very VERY astute statement that everyone needs to keep in mind. Everyone seems to forget that football is the purest of team sports insomuch that ALL 11 players have to execute in order for the unit to succeed...and the foundation for any offense is the OL. We've been down 3 starters on the line and even with the return of Tannehill, he alone won't make up for the loss of those starters. Hopefully with James and Tunsil back in practice, we can expect to get 2 more of our starters back on the line and get this offense firing on all cylinders again.
Come on man...I keep seeing the word "excuse". Injuries are NOT excuses. "I can't walk because I'm paralyzed" Is that an excuse or is that a reason? Being without your starting QB, 3 of your starting OL, 2 of your starting DL, 2 of your most dramatic playmakers (Grant Wilson), starting TE, and a few other rotation guys is NOT an excuse. Packers: 4-5-1 Vikes: 5-4-1 Seattle: 5-5 Falcons: 4-6 Indy: 5-5 Jax: 3-7 Raiders: 2-8 Eagles: 4-6 Every single one of these teams have either won Super Bowls recently, been in the Super Bowl recently, been in the playoffs recently, have QB's that Dolphin's fans of coveted or HC's that Dolphin's fans have coveted. None of them have suffered the amount of injuries the Dolphins have and all of them have records equal to or worse than the Dolphins. My point in this is that it's more than just Gase and the QB. There are bigger reasons as to why this team in 5-5. Unless you also think that Rodgers and/or McCarthy is the problem? Or maybe it's Wilson and/or Carrol? Or Matt Ryan and/or Quinn? Etc etc...
These people want to fire Gase and cut Tannehill because it fits with their narrative that we should win the SB every year, and if we don't then we're terrible. Their opinions are not based on facts. They don't understand how hard this whole football thing is.
N I don't think gase is the main problem I blame tannenbaum and Grier. The talent on this team including depth is no better since when they arrived! They both need to go.
I agree about TBaum. Grier has actually done some good. Most experts have the Dolphins around average in regards to the draft over the past 5-6 drafts. Sure, they could do better, but who do they get to make better picks? And their back-ups are mostly fine. The problem is that back-ups have been getting hurt and back-ups have become the majority of the team.
I am not so sure about Grier.Look at the 2017 draft.Rounds 1-3 look like busts.Asiata stinks,Godchaux is average at best but I do like taylor.Ford can't get on the field despite all the injuries.I would rate this draft an F.
Godchaux is actually playing above average. In fact, I think it's PFF that have him and Suh graded about the same and God chaux is actually killing Suh against the run.
this is a great indicator actually!!! i seen it at 8.5 on Monday but i think it opened at 9.5 and its 8 right now, this team is not much better no matter the QB on the roster. 1 point is an easy shift which could be people taking miami, i remember one year when jamal charles was hurt and was questionable then he wound up being inactive on Sunday morning for the chiefs and the line sky rocketed like 5 points, that tells you the impact of 1 player. in all honesty i love the phins +8 but this is why i dont bet on Miami too biased!!
Even though I think he has made a mistake or two, I think Grier has done pretty good despite Tannenbaum. When the guy says on draft day he needed to hold Tannenbaum back, so he wouldn't make any trades, that says a lot. IMO, nothing against the guy, but I don't see any reason why we need to have Tannenbaum in the picture. Let's let Grier and Gase handle business and Tannenbaum can go bye bye so he isn't a distraction in the draft room.
Well, in this particular scenario, I don't think you're basing your opinion on facts. When you say "no excuses," you're completely ignoring the factors that are actually contributing to our current struggles, and instead blaming Gase and Tannehill.
It's a fact that it's an opinion as to how much injuries affect expected win%. Can't just assume your opinion is fact.
