this kind of echos my sentiments for the last month or so. The only viable option currently in the league is Bridgewater and is he really an upgrade? I have no idea. The draft is looking abysmal at QB next year. As much as I'm over Tannehill at his point there are no good options to do so this year. Pauly nails this with his first post in the thread. I am getting very interested in Saban's QB in Alabama though. That kid is looking good but he is only a sophomore this year. One more thing to add, Tannehills leadership has butkus to do with his play on the field. His problem to my untrained eye is he is just a little too slow processing what is happening on during a play. He has a terrific arm, he is still athletic and has good accuracy. He's just late on his throws all the darn time. Too slow processing.
It still bothers me that it looks like he doesn't care that much when something goes wrong. Like yesterday I see him miss a throw and he's like "oh well.." Not that it's necessary to be hyper about things like Marino was, but I'd really like to see him act like he cares more. That is, that this isn't just another job but something where he should try to be great (he shows none of that demeanor IMO).
As bad as it sounds, I feel like sometimes he/the offense almost expect the negative result. Obviously I have no proof of that but usually people who expect to succeed don't take failure so well so often.
Idk guys.... I think Tannehill deserves another 3-4 years... we still don’t know if he’s good or not, he hasn’t reached his potential yet lol he’s only 30.... Lol Bridgewater for 2019 is a WAAAAY better option then Tannehill because he will come at a much cheaper price (allocate Tannehills money to actually good NFL players) for pretty much the same production (book it) with the POSSIBILTY Of outplaying Tannehill in all his years here... So, THATS THE REASON YOU GO BRIDGEWATER FOR 2019! Also, I wouldn’t agree with bringing in Bridgewater, but there’s something appealing to him now that he sat behind Drew Brees for a year, in a year where Drew is terrorizing the league... Maybe Bridgewater did great as a understudy...
1 year deal, maybe 2 for 5-7 million a season... that’s very reasonable too for him... his expectations should be lowered, only thing helping his cause is he will probably be most sought after FA QB. (And let’s be real, how many teams are gonna offer him a starting job outright from FA, without a clear cut threat to take his job during the season, this will be something he should consider as I’m sure he will be looking to jumpstart his career again)
Bridgewater will be at least $15 to $20 million a year, and he will want to start. If we don’t pay it, Jax will.
My guess is that number won't even be close. Maybe double that. Enticing for him to start will not lower that number IMO. Are you still interested if that is the number/
He won’t get it... he don’t have a leg to stand on (excuse the pun) to get that type of money... your wild lol
He won’t get it but if that was the case? For a one year deal and similar money to Tannehill... Give me Bridgewater and get rid of the mediocre robot. He’s wasted more then enough time for all us fans... He’s just not that good lol I rather change it up. At most, he may receive 10-13 million... and that’s at most and I still doubt it, I think he takes cheap deal but good opportunity...
Same with me. He seems satisfied with result win or lose. Another thing that bothers me is he completely trusts Gase, Loggains, and the game plan. Whatever they want to call or do is alright with him. I prefer someone who is more involved and if things are BS, say so.
And for all you claiming he’s getting 15-20 million this offseason, what changed between last offseason when he STUGGLED to even get a INTERVIEW and a few mill... now all this sudden he’s in the market for 20 million? Cmon man... cmon... it must be the 4000 yards he passed for this year... oh wait...
Seems to me his good opportunity is in New Orleans. Hard to think he takes a one year deal. I am not opposed to Teddy but people better be ready for something besides a one year cheap deal. NOT HAPPENING
If he is ONLY gonna sign a multi year deal and won’t do a one or two year deal, I wouldn’t want him anyways because obviously he don’t believe in himself anymore and is just playing for the paycheck and I wouldn’t want that anyways... as I’m trying to get rid of a play for pay type QB atm anyways... I find it hard to believe that a guy who struggled to get a job last offseason will all this sudden one year later get multi year deal at 20 million a year... that’s preposterous.
He STRUGGLED to get one year deal for 6 million from the Saints and now after one year where he sat behind Drew Brees and didn’t throw a pass all year he becomes a multi year 20 million dollar QB? Is this called Drew Brees inflation or something? In all honesty, most teams won’t even have a clue if he’s still good or not, outside of the fact that most teams that are interested in him are going to be putting their beliefs in the hope that he learned a lot from Drew (my line of thinking) and the possible workouts for teams (if he even does workouts) and the gossip from NO and the hope that another year furthered from his horrific injury should help. I don’t even think his sample size from Minnesota last season is even big enough to do anything with. With all that said, it sure don’t sound like he’s worth a multi year, 20 million dollar investment, that’s extremely risky for any team to do.
And no way in Blue hell does NO give Teddy 20 million... Let’s get real, they have Michael Thomas, Kamara, and even Mark Ingram (if they are interested in bringing him back) to give money to... their finances are already tied for the future. Oh and A guy named Drew Brees is still there and last I checked, he hasn’t announced any pending retirement because well, why would he? He’s still a top 3 QB in this league and he’s eating a crap ton of money...
I think that the point on Bridgewaters contract is that starting qb money is 15 million at minimum. If you are bringing him in for that role thats what the rate is now. Is he worth it? I dunno and I surely understand the argument against.
No it’s not, it’s what the market dictates. We don’t know the market yet. I think you guys are making his a little high considering this same guy struggled to even get an interview just last offseason and now without playing a down, he’s all this sudden getting 20 million. It’s crazy and preposterous. And before we go say Jax will automaticallly just pay him 20 million, that would be quite the risk with the fan base considering they just paid a TERRIBLE QB super money... I don’t think they can go paying QUESTION MARK QBS 20 million this offseason...
I think there is nothing wrong with drafting a QB just due to injury concerns alone at this point. I was thinking the other day, if Tannehill was drafted in the 2nd round like projected, I think people would be a lot less critical of him because hes pretty much exactly average as a starting QB.
Here is a little real talk for you guys. You may not like what I have to say, but what I have to say, you guys need to hear. This is not the draft class to need a QB. Generally speaking it is a down year. On that same note, next year's draft seems to have a lot more anticipated talent at the QB position. The problem is that we need so much more than just a QB. Our interior offensive line would give even the best of QBs real problems in terms of production. To make things worse, James could possibly hit free agency. We need to totally rebuild our pass rushing for the defensive end position, and we desperately need better linebackers. We are in a dark situation, guys. Is the answer to our problems packaging together a lot of draft picks to move up the draft board for a QB the answer in a weak year? If so, how do we address our countless other areas? Do we look to get better at multiple areas and give Tannehill yet another shot? Are we trading for a veteran QB like Carr? If so, how are we going to address the other whole? Teddy Bridgewater seems to many people like a possible answer. I bet that we aren't the only team that sees him as the answer. So do we pony up and give him a franchise QB deal? That sorta seems irresponsible for a guy that has not played a complete season in a long, long time. It's time to move on from Tannehill. Even I agree with that statement. How about bring in another veteran? I like that, but we are paying RT a ton regardless. Don't forget, it was not too long ago that we brought in Cutler. Being wrong did not come without a price. That salary could have been used to retain one of our own guys like Landry and most likely at a lower price that what the Browns paid him. It feels like we are in a situation with a lot of really tough choices to make. It almost feels like every answer is the wrong answer.
I don't see any scenario where it's beneficial to bring any free agent in, if we're moving from Tannehill. If we move on, just focus on other parts of the team and take your lumps with Osweiler next season.
I'd offer him a $10 million, one year, prove it deal. He comes in as the undisputed starter with hopefully a better OL and a pretty good set of weapons on offense (everyone healthy again). If he leads the team into the playoffs you hand him the big contract in 2020. If another team wants to hand him a big contract, then more power to them. I need to see a healthy and productive year from him first. That is all on the assumption I don't like any of the QBs in the 2019 draft. Although, an interesting scenario would be if Gase/Tanny return in 2019, but Ross tells the FO to trade away the 2019 first rounder for a first rounder in 2020. If Gase/Tanny finally succeed, you have extra ammo to restock the team in 2020. If they fail, you clean house and offer a new GM/Coach combo the chance to come in and grab the QB they want. With two first rounders you have the ammo to move up (it might take a few more picks on top of that of course, but the important thing is to get the QB you want to build around).
