    Apparently...

Just reinforces my opinion that the HC shouldn't be dictated to in his choices. Especially by an owner.

I'd rather see them both fired to be honest. I want to start fresh. If we are going to hire a Coordinator we need to be smart and hire someone who has made his team better on that side of the ball, but we also need overall intelligence as well as passion and enthusiasm to be a Head Coach.

    A decent solace.

As for this season ... TBaum hopefully will have no personnel power. If he is some sort of executive, whatever, as long as he isnt dictating picks, trades, etc.

Grier I can take or leave. His draft wasn't great, wasn't bad. You can't really expect too much and we dont have the track record to say hes a must fire.

    Gase ... bye.
Burke? Should have been gone after Texans.

What I don't get is why Ross would insist on an inside hire. Supposedly Gase is "his" guy, his genius. Why would you put that kind of handicap in? Either something ****y is going on financially, or he overestimated Gases' ability, or he isn't as high on Gase as people think and wasn't willing to commit a big and long offer to a premium guy.

Imo the only way I am ok with Gase coming back is if he gives up playcalling and gets a new and proven DC.

Thill? **** no. Cut him. He brings nothing, he doesnt make us better. He doesnt win. At best he manages to not **** up while he is carried by defense, STs or offensive playmakers. Draft a kid high and sign a vet. Let them duke it out, and plan on kid starting sooner rather than later.

I just dont see Gase as having become a better coach. I dont see THill as being anything close to a solution at QB. Both are inconsistent, struggle under pressure, in the spotlight. Both are slow to adjust and have trouble leading.

I'd be more willing to see Gase coach a rook than I would seeing him give Thill another year or seeing a new coach come in with him on the roster.

    I'm just over it.

I'd like to hear more about this theory that Burke was forced on Gase. Is this being leaked by people close to Gase? Or by reporters that like Gase and protect him in some way?

Is that true? Did Gase really want to go outside the organization? I have a little more respect for him now. Shame on you, Ross. You shouldn't meddle. Write the check, and keep your mouth closed about football related stuff like a good owner should.

I think Marino made his O-line look good. Some of them were really solid, but Marino had otherworldly pocket presence and awareness and a release that no one has seen before or since.

There was a reason he was the least sacked QB for so many years...

Here is the thing. The whole we got unlucky due to injuries narrative is fake news. We brought in a bunch of undersized WRs and aging vets coming off injuries, and we look around and says, "Gosh didilly darn, we got so unlucky. However did this happen?"

Guys, in all honesty, I am shocked that Danny Amendola has made it this far and that Quinn's back has held up. Our injury situation could be much worse. Parker is perpetually hurt, and we kept him at the deadline.

Honestly, ask yourself, "Have you ever seen a team with such little size at WR?"

We are actually 4-2 in the division so far. It is a vast improvement from years past. We need a solid draft, a better oline, and a new defensive coordinator.

You are a smart dude but I disagree about giving full control to any one man. That is just too much responsibility. I don't have the answer to fix what ails our Phins, but I suspect it starts with one Steve Ross.

If the Pats lose their next 2 and the Dolphins win their next 2 then Dolphins win the division. So, we are not "officially" out nor are we out if Indy and Tennessee win 10 games. :)

(For the record, I don't believe this will happen.)

As much **** as the offense is taking, the defense blew that game the first drive. Then the second. Then the third.

I'm going to tell you all something crazy. NFL offenses don't score every time they have the ball and it becomes harder with each score by the opponent to maintain balance.

Let me try to explain something else too. Yes I do believe the offense deserves its share of the blame, but we wasted basically the entire first half unable to set them up for anything in the second because we were down so quickly and so much.

This offensive line needs to be healthy or replaced because with no way to set up your opponent offensively and a large deficit given to you by your defense they just can't win their 1-1 matchups.

Then the guys who can win their matchups look confused or lost.

The divisional record is actually somewhat worrisome. Putting a 1-1 on new England was good, but hardly new. However, I dont think we can count on sweeps of the Bill's and Jets (yes I'm projecting) going forward. The Jets will have a new coaching staff, have a ton of cap space, will surround darnold with talent and be much improved. The Bill's have a solid D already. Again, we can expect them to heavily address offense and look for Allen to build.

Certainly this scenario could be for naught - maybe both Allen and Darnold suck and will be giant busts, the new Jets coach be Philbin, etc. But if those teams take a step forward next year and we tread or regress, it will be them more than us to capitalize on the slow decline of the Patriot empire.

......... and this my fellow Dolphin fans is why Tannehill will never be the player we need him to. Nice kid and tough as nails, but pocket mechanics and "up top" are simply not at the level that would help this team overcome mediocrity.

Zimmer's defense almost never blitzes. In fact he hasn't blitzed that much since facing TJ Yates, which was 7 years ago.

Hasn't historically Tannehill done well against the blitz? Like his passer rating plummets when he's under pressure, but against pressure from blitzes he's usually fine. At least that's what I've seen over the years in articles.

So I question how much of the pressure from blitzes was because Tannehill couldn't handle. Would seem weird that all of a sudden he's forgotten how play against the blitz.

I think I disagree with this. Not because he's wrong but because this is too general. A sack here and there, like normal, sure. But last game was an extreme. All the footwork in the world wouldn't matter. Guys were on him in a split second, unblocked. There simply was no pocket to be present in.

Scrambling wouldn't likely have helped too, especially with his ankle.

No matter how I look at this, Sunday was indicative of a much broader, critical failure in the offense, and a highly rated defence and can't simply be laid at Tannehill's feet.

    Disagree.

Were there breakdowns in protection? Of course, they were facing one of the best D-Lines in football. But it's always matchups like these where we never see the chess match on Tanny's part. Not much changing of the protections, very little side-stepping or climbing (and no don't tell me every single rush came up the middle) ..... accounting for the correct blitzer, yada, yada, yada. Gase spoke to this in his presser. So I can't pin every sack on the O-line.

It's like Tanny just walks up there and runs the play as-is. You can see just how sloppy his pocket mechanics become when the bullets are flying in there against a team like that. He's very stiff.

I'll double check the presser but to my recollection it was a wider issue, and the problem we have is that we don't know exactly where the break downs happen. It might have be mostly Tannehill failing to correct the protection but may also have been the o-line not doing their jobs. There's just too much unknown.

To be clear, I'm not saying that it wasn't Ryan's fault, I'm saying that once the rush came unblocked footwork wouldn't be a solution, and as for whose fault it was, we just don't know. I'm not going to blame Tannehill - or anyone else - individually just because.

Not really saying "blame Tanny". But on days the O-line struggles, so does Tannehill and it would seem that due to his limitations as a QB he's not able to overcome them even just to keep the team competitive.

Then there's other things to consider as well, like when he had Stills streaking down the sideline and severely overthrew him. Correct me if I'm mistaken didn't that come on the heels of the turnaround to 21-17? It's just stuff like that man - especially when you know there aren't going to be as many opportunities vs. a top flight secondary. Gotta hit those throws in a game like that.

Yeah, I wouldn't call any Dolphins fan stupid. Masochist? sure. Heckled? yup. Ridiculed? You betcha. Mocked? Praise be!

Stupid? nah. Too many old fans that know their stuff.

Now, I like Tannehill. I really wanted him to succeed. I felt, however, if it didn't happen this year, it wasn't ever going to happen. I mean "take this team to the next level" happen. I want to believe, it's just hard for me now. Some games, he looks good and others, he looks like a damn rookie.

Gase is another thing all together. I'm just not seeing it with him. The team just looks unprepared and soft at time. That's a product of coaching, imo. Maybe I'm wrong?
