Okay, here's an exercise. Take a listen to each of the coaches below, then give your honest opinions on each of them please. How do you read/hear them, how do they come across.

    Compare/contrast.

I want to punch Loggains in the throat. Seems smarmy and douchey, doesn't seem to take the current situation very seriously.

Matt Burke, I didn't mind how he presented, but again, didn't seem to concerned with our situation.

Haven't watched Rizzi yet, but Gase also seemed unconcerned.

Of the three I watched, they all acted like we're super close, just making small mistakes. I should have counted how many times "we just need to clean stuff up" was said. Frankly, if you hadn't watched the game, you'd probably think we won, and that we looked pretty good. You'd think the team was 11-2 and cruising into a first round bye.

I'm actually really disillusioned with our coaching staff after watching those clips.

So it's not just me then!

Rizzi was different, every time I hear him I like him more.

I don't mind it if coaches hate media time and are short or aggressive or whatever. But so much of this seemed either too lightweight (Loggains) or just lies. It's hard to place it but something just felt off.

I don't have 40+ minutes to watch the interviews, but I did watch about 3-5 minutes of each coach. I don't like the Loggains guys from a coaching standpoint. Not necessarily the type of personality you need to coach that unit up, but that's just my opinion.
I think Burke's heart is in the right place, I think he does care about his job and about the results that his defense puts out there. For some reason his schemes/system/etc isn't yielding the results needed and I think his days are possibly numbered in Miami.
Rizzi is my guy, year in and year out our special teams is always really good. I think he deserves a ton of credit for that. I would play hard for that guy if I was a football player. He just has a demeanor to him that earns respect.
Gase......(I'm gonna get killed for this) is also a coach that I still have a lot of support for. Gase is a young guy, but the potential is there, and he has kept us competitve, he's kept us in the playoff mix despite the colossal amount of injuries. I'm not ready to give up on him. I don't think it's that he doesn't care about winning or losing, I think it's that he hates the media and that attitude of hating the media shows up when he has to address them.

I for one won't kill you for that. I've been supportive of Gase generally and don't mind if he's the coach another year. I think he's been learning and still think he has potential. I also don't mind him hating the media, I'm a Spurs fan as far as the NBA is concerned, so I'm used to Popovich hating the media, at least in terms of dumb questions. This particular presser though, and maybe a few this year, it has felt different. Not combative, almost dismissive, like they're all just retreating into themselves/distancing themselves. Not sure I'm getting my meaning across, it's hard to put into words. I didn't like these pressers those, except for Rizzi.

Not specific to the 'Phins, but has a relation to what we talk about with Gase and the staff: http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/...nds-for-bears-colts-the-right-coaching-staffs

Essentially, it's arguing that choice of assistants are as important as any other duty for the GM and HC, and that failure to hit is usually a major reason why coaches are not just fired, but not hired in the first place. Notes that Nagy in Chicago pulled out all the stops to keep Fangio to coach up the D while he focused on offense. How Reich in Indy was convinced by the GM to keep the GM's pet DC on board after McDaniels flew the coop. Some of what I really find interesting though:

Which is interesting. On the one hand Gase brought in his friend Loggains, on the other hand Gase wasn't allowed to hire the DC he wanted and was forced to have Burke.

This is just one more reason HC's need to be given full power to hire and fire who they want. Sink or swim, it should be by their own choices.

Ooh, and then you've got Ross who brought in his 'friend' Tannenbaum.

And Philbin who kept on his friend Mike Sherman as OC.

I've seen this, but is it 100% confirmed? I mean, it would be such an odd move. For a guy that spends lots of money and ostensibly wants to win ... why kneecap your chosen golden boy coach that badly? I said in another thread, either something else was going on, or Ross had too much faith in Gase's ability. I dunno.

Yeah, I find it hard to believe that Ross would refuse to spend a bit more cash to get Gase the DC he wanted. Ross fails in hiring the wrong people, but never fails to open the purse strings to help the team.
