I was more referencing a young guy that everyone was gaga over that we should have taken instead of Tannehill.

Ryan Tannehill has a 108 passer rating right now.

Example number 321 why passer rating is a joke to me.

I think it's possible, even reasonable, to believe that Tannehill is not good enough and should be replaced, while also not believing that he is the reason the team isn't winning.

I have no issue replacing Tannehill with someone better. I also don't think Tannehill is the biggest reason that we're struggling on offense.

We have all been fooled by the Gase/Tanny regime at some point. But I think to a man we are almost all ready to move on and hope for greener pastures.

Today was a shame but likely a blessing.

    This is how I feel.

Also its not like anyone walks in and poof things are better. If that were true Osweiler would have done better. So at the end of the day if someone doesn't at least show a strong potential to be better it's just change for the sake of change.

Clean house, the draft doesn't look good this year for QBs so we going to need a vet. I got a feeling Eli Manning about to be forced out, I'd sign him as a bandaid if available. Not the greatest but he's got a couple years and a certain upgrade from Tannehill.

Would love Manning for 2 years. But if the Giants do let him go then the obvious location for him is Jacksonville to be reunited with Coughlin.

If you're really serious about moving on from Tannehill I see signing Bridgewater plus drafting a rookie first round as just about the only option that could result in a positive outcome.

Even then I think it's still likely we end up where we are now.

We should draft someone....Unless the team is more interested in seeing Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick, or Nick Foles. I personally don't want anything to do with any of them. I think Taylor would be the only viable free agent replacement and he's really not all that good. Fitzpatrick is fun to watch on bad teams and he has a good game or two, but he's a backup. Foles I love on the Eagles, but I think he's fools gold on another team. We definitely need to draft a guy, but I do agree with you. Ryan Tannehill will probably once again be our quarterback next season.

Not to say that his style of play is long-term ...... but how pissed off must Ross be considering that he wanted Lamar Jackson in the draft and he's watching him commandeer a Ravens team poised for a wildcard berth?

His offense put up another outing of under 200 yards... this is not good res and is a reflection of his abilities to move and control a game..

After this game your probably looking at the worst offense in the league statistically

I've been thinking... Many people know that passer rating correlates to wins. But, I think of that almost like a good passer rating contributes to wins and wins contribute to good passer rating. However, if one is just going off of X passer rating equates to Y number of wins, and then tries to artificially get that passer rating thinking if the QB has X rating, we'll be fine...I wonder if that's what we're seeing with Gase? Like they've got Tannehill hitting the magic number for passer rating in many games, but they're confused as to WHY they're losing and the offense is stagnant. Like, we don't have the wins, but the moneyball approach says we just need X passer rating to be successful.

Did I confuse anyone with this post? It's harder to put down in writing what I'm thinking in my head for this than I thought it would be. Hahaha

If Gase was doing that and asked me why Tannehill's passer rating wasn't translating into wins (his 99 rating given a 93 league-wide average rating would correspond to about 9 expected wins) I'd point out that you can score either through passing TD's, rushing TD's or FG's and that we're near league bottom in both points per game and in percentage of offensive drives that end in a score.

What does that mean? It means that Tannehill's passing TD% is artificially high and rushing TD% artificially low (we're 4th worst) due to small sample size. While you may need ~150 passing attempts to get somewhat reliable passer rating, you need tons more passing attempts to get somewhat reliable TD% because TD's occur less frequently than other components of passer rating like completions per attempt. Tannehill TD% is now at 7%, was at 7.2% a week ago and 8.1% the week before that. I said back then that this was likely due to small sample size and so far that's proving accurate.

In other words, Tannehill's passing TD% is distorting things. This would be quite different if rushing TD% was also high but it's not. So from a moneyball perspective the suggestion is obvious: don't sacrifice rushing TD% just to increase passing TD%, and vice versa. All that assumes Gase is actively trying to increase passer rating at the expense of other stats.

Osweiller did do "some things" better- we instantly missed Tannehill's big arm but we also saw how an average quarterback can navigate the pocket as well. Part of me says we could win more games in 2019 with Oz over RT....maybe that's just me being grumpy from today's game though.

If we get out offensive line back next season plus Gore, Wilson, Parker, Amendola, Grant, Drake, etc...that's a butt load of weapons for ANY QB to take advantage of. We're still the fastest offense in the league when everyone's healthy and we just need someone who can-

    1) Make solid pre-snap reads
    2) Be average at evading pressure
    3) Throw accurate 20+ yard passes

We need to draft a CB early and I'm hoping that's round 1 if there's a stud for the taking. If not CB, then DE/DB works as well. I think our O line is fine with someone who can work a pocket and I really don't see our team needs as extensive. We just need some coaches who can run the O/D and make better use of all our speed.

Can you imagine another corner close to Howard's skill level paired with McDonald, Fitzpatrick and Jones, PLUS a scheme to generate more pressure up front? We could be stupid good next season.

Yeah, I've been saying for a bit that if we're actually moving on from Tannehill, we should roll with Osweiler next season, and focus on other positions on free agency and draft, and look to drafting a QB for 2020.

I don't watch a lot of college football, so I can't claim any great insight, but the general consensus - and overall numbers - indicate that 2019 QB draft options aren't great, whereas 2020 may have some incredible players. Of course, there may well be a 'steal' this year, and the 2020 guys might be busts, but that's always the challenge of the draft.

As it stands, though, I'd rather risk a high pick on a possible franchise QB than pay over the odds, or commit too long, to a stand-in.

I think they should draft BPA this year, and get as much talent as they can. We need a lot of depth, not to mention some starters in various places. If those guys are there, then lets get them now rather than blowing picks on a mediocre QB.

So I'd rather run with Tannehill or someone else one more year, and pick someone they guys believe in, even at high cost, instead of reacting to the urge to 'just do something'.

If you're not taking a gamble on a QB this coming draft, then you HAVE to hire a new HC with the promise that the 2019 record won't matter and that we should trade down or completely out of the 1st round this year to ensure you can pick top 5 in 2020. You can't just assume we'll have the firepower to trade up in 2020 when all kinds of other teams want QB's and are already in better draft position.

Gotta "tank" (without deliberately doing so.. if that makes sense) in 2019 if the goal is to get a franchise QB in 2020, and yeah Osweiler would help do that.

Sure. But some teams will be gambling on this year's QB class. So yeah, I understand what you're saying, but I just don't see the benefit of going outside of Osweiler/Falk if you're ditching Tannehill.

We really don't know. He was cut in pre-season, we grabbed him and he hurt his shoulder a few weeks later. It will really take training camp to get some idea of what we have in him- he could be a potential starter or not even make the team. Who knows.

I think the bigger questions is- what's the story with Fales? He looks great each year in pre-season....why not let him play week 17 so we know what we have there? I'd give the kid the 2nd half just as an interview.

I'm definitely not anti-Ozweiler....he's just limited in what he can do. The kid is pretty smart though and plays with good instincts, so I wouldn't be opposed to riding with him for a year if it was that or pulling in a washed-up veteran like Cutler.

So some of you just basically want to throw away next year? So we can get a good draft pick in 2020. I don’t agree. I’d like to try to draft a qb now. And not have to watch Tannehill next year. Or osweiller. We blow first round draft picks all the time. Blowing one on the first round quarterback is what you’re supposed to do. Until you get one you like. I believe we have pretty good talent. That’s why we were able to beat some good teams. It’s our coaching that sucks ***. Add a good coach or two. A few more good players. And we could be really competitive next year. Instead of blowing the year with freaking Tannehill.

If the new rookie qb sucks in 2019. Then we should be set up to draft a good qb with a fairly good draft pick. Its a win win. No more tannehill and we get a good qb or a good draft pick for another chance at a good qb.

Who are you dumping your first round pick on in the draft? This is a terrible draft year for QB, but deep defensively. So, yeah, you put off a massive investment in QB until the following year.

I thought i was clear. Qb? Deep defensive draft. So we should be able to get good defense with all the other picks?
