Most on this Reddit thread seem to think it would be a poor decision and would be excited for their team to hire him. Thoughts?

What has Gase done well here in Miami?

The best I can come up with is: field a injury riddled team to mediocrity.

One thing that steams me is when a HC uses excuses of injuries for a poor season. Almost every team deals with injuries, but good coaches rise above them and get more from the players who fill in. I guarantee you Shula had many teams with injuries, heck in 72 Griese broke his leg and Earl Morrel stepped in to fill the gap. Teams like New England still wins after devastating injuries because the coach rises above the set back. I believe Gase should be fired not just because he stuck with Tannehill, but last year he brought Cutler here and he thought he was the answer, the only answer I heard is that Gase makes bad decisions.

    How unreasonable.

We obviously just got unlucky and played "hot teams" on the road this year. Certainly THAT isn't Adam's fault.

I hope you're all ready for a 1-15 season if we get rid of Tanny/Gase btw. There is literally only heaping sacks of rotting garbage to replace them this year. There is nothing on the market that can match their "competent" stature.

When it comes to reports like these where do you think he is getting his information from? Could it be the feelers that Ross's inner circle are putting out there to gauge if a guy would be interested in the Dolphin's gig? Is it just an educated guess?

I also wonder if Gase is pushing back to the idea of him giving up control of the roster. Maybe this is coming from Gase's side and if he leaves it is based on them not being able to come to an agreement on personnel, a new DC, and him giving up play calling.

Fans complain about how terrible a team that was in the playoffs two years ago, picked up a QB off the scrap heap last year, and was in playoff contention into the 16th week of the season this year with an injury riddled lineup.

They would rather have four seasons of 2-14 just for the very small chance of drafting the next Marino.

Nobody wants to be the Browns. And shut up the jury is still out on Mayfield for all the losers who are gonna say he's the greatest QB prospect ever.

To be honest I think losing for a pick just means a person lacks intelligence to make the proper moves without an advantage.

I'd rather this team relocate than tank. Its a whimpy strategy IMO.

You are correct. Every team gets injuries. But there is a big difference between the most injured team and the least injured team. Tell you what. Next year lets make a bet. You get the most injured team and I will get the least injured team. Who knows, maybe you get the patriots and i get the cardinals. We wont know who we have till the season is over. Whoever has the best record at the end of the season wins. We will use football outsiders adjusted games lost (agl) numbers so ce they take into account injuries in season and adjust for starters, backups, etc

I for one think the ravens beat the browns today but regardless the browns have a lot better future than we do.
I was praying on this site last year Mayfield would fall enough so we could move up and get him.He might beat the record for most Tds by a rookie QB today and didn't start until week 3.
If we did get him be honest with yourself and admitt you would beyond stoked.Gase probally hopes he gets fired so he can go to the browns and coach a real QB.

I'm ok with moving on from Gase but I don't understand the point that you and many other people use about Cutler. The starting QB goes out in training camp and after the draft, what solution were you expecting? It's highly unlikely you're going to find a quality starter at that point in the season.

I could be wrong, but just saying a team has a high number of injuries is an automatic reason to think they can not be productive. They might be able to overcome those injuries with depth or the injuries might not be at a critical position and they can scheme their way around it. Conversely, a team could lose just a few guys, but one of them be their starting QB and then all hell breaks loose because they didn't plan ahead and their backup QB sucks. I think it is a matter of luck. An injury could really suck like it has for us these last couple of years, or it might prove fortunate because the next man up gets some playing time and turns out to be a gem.

I love that people are throwing around that idea that, should we fire Adam Gase, he would immediately become the top candidate around the league, or at the very least ONE of the top candidates.

And yet, people are actually excited about the possibility of firing Gase even though it would most likely lead to a worse situation for Miami going forward.

    Fans are so stupid.

I didn't say I know what will happen, so I have no clue what point you're trying to make.

The facts are such: The market for head coaches is currently hot garbage. Should Adam Gase be fired, he would be perceived by other teams as a top candidate. So, if we fire a top candidate in order to hire a less regarded candidate, we would most likely put ourselves in a worse situation. Could this not be the case? Absolutely. Is it likely to be the case? Yes.

There is a very small chance we find a better coach at the moment. So why take the risk now when the downside is potentially wasting another 3-4 years simply because you wanted Gase gone ASAP.

Under Gase, we're 10-6, 6-10, 8-8 (I'm giving him the win today). Add it all up and we're .500 on the nose.

Someone here said Cleveland will be better than us in the near future. Okay. They're 1-15, 0-18, and 7-8-1 the past 3 seasons (I gave them a loss today). In other words, they have 15.5 games to make up to be on par with Adam Gase in Miami. Even if they go 16-0 next season and we go 2-14, Gase is still ahead in his tenure by a half game. I don't think the math supports the claim since everyone expects us to be at 7-8-9 wins next season w/ RT/Gase.

I know a lot of folks here say injury, hurricanes, and Jay Cutler on a moment's notice is no excuse. But how do we know if that's true? We look at actual game film and seeing if having our starting line, Howard, Wilson or some other component would have made any difference at all.

Would Tannehill have blown the Cinci game if he didn't take two violent hits from untouched blockers? Probably not- we would have won that game. Now we're 9-7. What about the 3 TD's McTyer gave up two weeks ago looking completely lost- would Howard have given up those 3 scores? Now we're potentially 10-6 and in the playoffs again. You have to be a fool to believe that key injuries don't matter....and we were without our starting QB for almost half of Gase's tenure.

I get it, people want us to win and they have no patience for any losses. No matter how you spin it though, I don't see this as a "blow it up" type scenario. Tannehill is 5-5 this season, with losses to NE, Cinci, Indy, Minnesota and Jax (four very good defenses). He played hurt in two of those games and had almost zero protection in 3 of the 5. Also, Gase didn't give Tannehill a chance to win in two of those games with ultra-conservative play calling as we led in the 4th quarter.

So I get it- we're in for another 8-8 season. But I think we're 2nd guessing a lot and giving zero benefit of the doubt with a pretty good football team.

dolphins fans live in a twilight zone version of reality completely removed from the rest of the nfl. Injuries don't matter, matchups don't matter. We are expected to win every game and if we don't win a super bowl by year three we must fire the entire regime.

1 game under .500 in his time here... 21 of those games without his starting QB.

I'm irritated as ever with him... but I'm not so sure he's the right guy to scrap just yet. He's got to have a better plan moving forward though with an OC and DC.

To think though he wouldn't get another HC job, likely this year... I think is crazy. He will.

No one knows how good coaching candidates really are until they end up as HC's. Sean McVay and Doug Pederson weren't considered "hot" coaching candidates. Gase was, they weren't. So let's not act like anyone knows how to pick great HC's. It's a crapshoot, and unless you try you'll end up with more of the same: mediocrity.

If you don't fire Gase.. get ready for more 8-8. This team is already bleeding fans (certainly on this site). Have to show you're actually TRYING to improve the team. Keeping Gase and Tannehill is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you do if you want to improve the team.

I'm not so sure the designation of "starting QB" per se matters as much as how good that QB is. Sparano posted a 25-23 record his first 3 years with 11 of those wins coming with Pennington who was ranked #2 in passer rating in 2008 (only Dolphins QB since Marino to be anywhere that good) and two 7-9 records, so 32 games (actually 27 with Henne starting), with another "starting QB" named Chad Henne.

lol.. having to play with Henne is like having to play with a decent backup. Right now I don't see the difference between Sparano, Philbin and Gase except style and attitude and the fact that Gase will end up being the FIRST ever Dolphins HC with 3 consecutive seasons of below average performance on both offense and defense, measured by points. Yeah.. that sure screams contract extension!!

Very true but there comes a breaking point. 11 of the 12 playoff likely teams this year are in the top 16 of having fewest players on IR. MIami is 20th. We're supposed to fire everyone because we aren't that 1 out of 12 team?

Whatever decision Ross makes I hope he doesn't make it based on this game alone. Thankfully Ross doesn't seem like that kind of guy so I'm pretty sure Ross has made up his mind what he wants. I think the question in his mind is whether he can find a new HC he thinks more highly of than Gase. Can't fire Gase until you're fairly certain you have the replacement you want, which is why we haven't seen him commit to Gase but also not fire him. Either way I doubt this game changes anything.

It’s really just disheartening, maddening, to win against the pats and not be able to get the team to perform nearly as well, just a complete breakdown of communication, Schematically breaking down to a point where your oline is not able to handle blitzing concepts, I mean at the end of the third year and your losing against a 4 win team at your house with a backup QB..

Now knowing that, knowing how he runs a camp, ( I could attribute his style of camp directly related to execution issues considering two thirds of the team is doing nothing while the other third is) knowing how he doesn’t utilize the strengths of the qb..Knowing how he only focuses on play calling for the most part, and all of its results, knowing his personnel decision making bringing in horrible players that you know he vouched for , the belief in a flawed starting QB.

It’s hard to see the light around this guy.

    I mean he is young..

Also, Here’s a topic that any fan could go toe to toe with Gase and put him in his place..maybe goes something like this..

“ Hey Gase, what the hell are you doing thinking Mike Gesicki can go up against grown *** NFL players? Like are you freakin high or something? Like are you seriously thinking that that’s a wise move and doesn’t put the entire anatomy of the play design in jeopardy and the health of the other players including your qb?, like is this the same part of your brain that thought Julius Thomas, Ted Larsen, and Bushrod we’re capable options?”

“I really want to know what the thought process is, because your more blind then Ray Charles on a bender”

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest..

It’s scary if you think about it from a coaching perspective.

Best case is to keep Gase and start looking for a new QB. I don’t want him calling plays anymore though, head coaches need to be involved in all aspects of the game at all times. He need to manage his coaches who manage the game. Last weeks look of him sitting alone on the bench was just disgusting and embarrassing.

Truthfully, my biggest problem with Gase is that he thinks it's always someone else's fault (VERY few exceptions). If he showed a willingness to learn and take responsibility AND it showed in changes in the game plan or so I'd be singing a different tune w.r.t. giving him an extra year. I mean at some point the record and production outweigh all other concerns but this guy thinks the problem lies with everyone else. No way I could get behind that attitude unless the results justify it.
