Agreed. People can say injuries is just an excuse all they want, and yes in a way it is, but when you have so many piling up, in my opinion it gets hard to evaluate things properly at that point. As you said, they're backups for a reason. I'd be curious to see if we cut Cornell Armstrong, Torry McTyer, and whoever the other guy we had playing CB yesterday after McTyer went out if any NFL team would pick them up for more than special teams type roles. If you're relying on guys like that, you're in trouble. There was a pretty clear drop off in our offense once we lost Wilson, and Grant as well. Those guys were perfect fits for what Gase was trying to accomplish, and IMO they were just getting things warmed up and we had some pieces in place looking like we could whip up a pretty dynamic offense. Then it all fell apart as guys go down.

That being said... You look at some other teams overcoming some key injuries and having some success. It's not like Gase shifted his focus to doing things differently as guys went down. I wont even talk defense, because it's clear he stays away from it and lets his co-ordinator handle it (as he should for the most part IMO), but on offense, once we lost Wilson and Grant, the short quick stuff should have stopped. Amendola isn't going to be successful at that stuff anymore at this point in his career. Stills never showed a knack for it. Parker isn't that guy either, yet we still ran it. We should have seen a shift in the passing game at that point, and a more concentrated effort to get the ball to the rest of the playmakers... especially Drake. We should have gone more run heavy, rather than always abandoning it. That's where I feel Gase failed the offense. There wasn't enough done to try and adjust effectively.

I dont know, ultimately for me as disappointed as I am in this season... I think there's a successful plan to be thrown together if Gase is kept, and agrees. However, some of the things were hearing now from some players starts to make you wonder if they'd really be in support of him sticking around.

And to me... that's just it... That's the problem he's faced with if he stays, and it's difficult to overcome when the guys you're expecting to execute the system, aren't on board with the top of the food chain. It will be a struggle, that likely won't yield positive results.

At the same time though... I just shake my head when I see reports like that. These players are paid millions of dollars to stay in prime condition, and execute a system/gameplan as given to them by the coaches. It's their bodies they're putting on the line on the field, I get that... but whether you're doing so for a "players coach", or one who becomes a bit more "strict"... your role doesn't change. Do your job. It's that simple.

The problem in Miami has in part always been it's too damn laid back. So if the coach got more "strict" and demanding this year, it's about ****ing time IMO. Clearly the country club vacation lifestyle our players seem to enjoy too much isn't working. Sure, it's Miami... it's beautiful... but you still have a job to do.

Part of me feels like the quit in this team isn't necessarily attached to the head coach... but the QB. When the guy who's supposed to be your leader, is dragging you down, more than raising you up, you've got a big problem on your hands. When the D plays decent, and the O can't get out of it's own way... resentment will eventually sink in.

Fix the most important position in the game, everything else will fall into place.

    Exactly.

I'm amazed at how many people are saying something along the lines of "Good coaches overcome injuries". That's garbage. It's one thing to have random guys banged up a little. It's a completely different issue when your entire offense is injured. Both sides of the ball were absolutely gutted along the trenches and we had to have Drake play WR at one point it got so bad.

Tough to "overcome injuries" when you're relying on backups to stop the run, protect the QB, open holes in the running game, throw the ball, and catch the ball...all at the same time.

Let's not fool ourselves. As soon as we found ourselves without Kilgore, Sitton, Taylor, Hayes, Tannehill, Wilson, and Grant it was over and that was fairly early in the season. I mean just look at that list. Every single one of those guys was brought in for a very specific purpose and we had to play 10+ games without all of them.

I thought that Sporano was decent as an HC. I always kinda thought that under the right circumstances, he could have worked.

    RIP Tony!

Strawmen are very popular decorations for this forum it seems.

I guess Ross wasn't overly impressed by a 3 game winning streak, as he shouldn't have been. Moving on, as we should be.

    Not a straw man, dude.

And I thought there were legitimate gripes about Gase, but the record wasn't one of them. I'm not upset that he's gone, necessarily, as I didn't like his play calling, among other things.

Two memories really.....the longest game ever and the Pats win. I agree with you that we should have kept him one more season (for the exact reasons you gave), but since that's done I'm on to the next chapter. It sounds like Gase could have stayed and got himself fired anyway.
